Epilogue (1/3)

Part 1

„Get home well!" Taehyung smiled at the girl leaving his office.

"Will do. Thank you again for meeting me on such a short notice." She waved at him before disappearing through the door, leaving Taehyung to tidy up the room. He placed his notebook on its usual spot and then moved on to organize the pillows and the blankets on the couch the way they usually were.

A year had passed since he had last seen Jungkook. Exactly one year ago, Jungkook had almost died. Taehyung stared out the window at the busy streets beneath.

After everything that had happened he'd been questioned quite a few times. It made sense. After all he had been the only one leaving that building alive that day... While they had believed him that Jungkook hadn't killed him because, as his therapist, Taehyung had had a more positive relationship with him, they still had tried to get any information about Jungkook out of him.

Anything that could help them find him. Taehyung hadn't been any help. After all he knew just as much as they did. Even though Jungkook had announced he'd come back, Taehyung hadn't seen him in a year.

Over time they stopped calling, probably realizing that Taehyung really couldn't tell them more. And Taehyung had opened up this place with his parents' money. A little office where he could do his job in peace without worrying about any boss.

Once again... it wasn't like he was doing this for money. He was doing this because he liked talking to people and helping them with their problems.

When he left the building, it was already dark outside. Since most people were busy at least from morning till noon, he opened his office and usually took appointments until eight pm. Most of his clients were a bit younger than him so they often came to him right after school.

As usual he grabbed the daily newspaper as he entered the subway station. He couldn't stop himself from doing it. Every day after work he'd go through the newspaper and check if any murder had occured in the Seoul area... and whenever there was one he wondered whether that had been Jungkook.

After Jungkook had left one year ago Taehyung had called the police and ambulance in case anyone had survived, although he doubted it. For the whole time he had been inside the building he had been oddly calm, even though there had been corpses all around him.

But once he'd made it outside, he'd completely crashed. The events of the evening finally catching up with him. But to make matters worse... even though all those people had died... Taehyung was glad Jungkook had made it out of there.

He was probably a bad person for saying this, but he was just glad Jungkook was alive.

The weeks following the incident he'd been ridiculously irritable. He'd snap at his friends a lot more than they were used to... got angry over the most ridiculous things and just felt like he was constantly pissed.

And then the nightmares hit. Most of the time Jungkook wasn't even a part of his bad dreams. Maybe he wasn't there because Taehyung still cared about him and felt oddly safe even with what Jungkook was and after everything that had happened.

But he kept dreaming of being in that laboratory. He'd walk into Jungkook's room, but Jungkook wasn't there. Instead there would be blood everywhere. Sometimes there were corpses piling behind the glass wall and sometimes there was just plain nothing.

Then, for some reason, Taehyung would go search for Jungkook in that building. Like he knew Jungkook was there, hiding somewhere. Taehyung never was in danger in those dreams. He wasn't scared. It always felt kind of distant considering he was running through hallways full of corpses.

Their faces never were the same either. Sometimes they were the faces of the doctors who had worked there, but sometimes they were the faces of people Taehyung knew from his day to day life. Sometimes even strangers.

The dreams were similar but never quite the same. Something was different every time. Their duration varied too.

In the few cases he did find Jungkook it was nothing like reality. No one in Taehyung's dream was alive. Not even Jungkook.

Jungkook was always the same when Taehyung found him. For the most part he looked normal. Almost alive. He didn't have any gashing wounds like everyone else. There was no blood. The only thing indicating he was dead was his unmoving chest.

Whenever Taehyung touched him as he was lying on the operation table... he never had a heart beat. His eyes were closed, but had dark purple bags under them. He looked dead...

If Taehyung looked down he would find a mess of puncture wounds on his forearm.

And while it was something Taehyung really felt bad about whenever he thought about it when he was awake again... finding Jungkook dead in his dreams was the only time he really felt something in those nightmares. Worry, sadness... anger.

He felt angry at all those doctors for hurting him.

And Taehyung knew it was unreasonable to still... care about Jungkook. Jungkook was a monster, quite literally. He'd proven to Taehyung that he killed with no hesitation. But still, as Taehyung sat in the subway staring at the newspaper... he missed Jungkook.

Missed their conversations. Missed the hours they had spent talking. Missed the way Jungkook's face would light up when he laughed or smiled.

Maybe Jungkook was a monster, but Taehyung knew that, as much as he was a monster... he also had a human side.

The worst part was that Taehyung couldn't talk to anyone about this. Jungkook still was something Taehyung could not tell his friends about. After all he had signed a non-disclosure contract regarding everything that had happened back then.

In addition to that, his friends probably would have declared him insane if he had told them he'd fallen in love with a monster... for more than one reason.

Not that it really mattered. Jungkook hadn't shown himself around Taehyung in a year. At this point Taehyung had simply accepted that Jungkook wouldn't be coming back. It was kind of sad... but at the same time he was relieved.

Because no matter how much he missed Jungkook... he also knew that, without that glass wall separating them, Jungkook was dangerous and Taehyung had no idea to what extent. If they ever disagreed on something... would he just kill Taehyung?

Taehyung couldn't know, after all he had been safe the whole time before this. But if Jungkook ever came back, he could never be sure how safe he was.

When the speakers announced his station he got out of the subway. He wasn't too fond of walking through this part of town this late in the evening, but there was nothing that could be done about it. Going by bus to avoid this area would have added another hour to his daily commute. So instead he simply hurried through the park. He could have walked around the park too, but this route was shorter and he wanted to get home quickly.

Luckily it was pretty well lit and he knew the way home by heart.

He had made it through about two thirds of the park when he caught a sudden movement from the corner of his eye. Although when he turned around to check, there was nothing. It wasn't anything especially worrying though. It was easy to see movement in shadows when there was none.

Especially when Taehyung was already on edge due to the fact that he was walking through the park this late.

Another few meters farther he heard voices. Although not where he had thought he had seen something move earlier, but coming from somewhere in the direction he was going instead.

He started walking a little faster in hopes that he could just pass anyone else who was out here now quickly. This park was not exactly known to be a good area. A lot of drug dealers and people on the lookout for quick pocket money.

He didn't get far though as someone stepped into his way right in front of him. Taehyung came to an abrupt halt, silently swearing at himself for not just taking a taxi back to his place. It would have been a way smarter decision.

"Hey, wait a second." The guy brought his hands up almost reassuringly, but then someone suddenly wrapped his arms around Taehyung, pressing a knife to his throat.

"Don't move." This guy's voice sounded a lot less friendly.
