Chapter Fourteen

King Patton was looking out the window, tense and furious. He just wanted his son back, and there were people in this room that wanted to see to it that he was slaughtered like an animal. He clenched his fists at the thought.

Over my dead body, Patton thought to himself. I'll burn their kingdoms to the ground if they lay a hand on my son.

"Patton! Luis and Roman are missing," Logan said, snapping him out of his thoughts.

The king stood up quickly, looking around. "They went after him, didn't they?" he asked quietly. Logan nodded, looking out the window in concern at the dark and stormy world outside. Patton took deep breaths as he remained calm. "They'll be fine. Roman can protect Luis."

Patton trusted Luis could take care of himself of course, but he was his youngest. He couldn't help but still think of him as the scared little boy he used to be. He'd grown so much though, making the king smile wistfully as he recalled the days when the three of them would just play around together. Patton would show the boys his magic, which always made them happy. His face fell as he remembered when Virgil's powers became too much for any of them to handle. The first few times were innocent, accidentally making it rain indoors, or giving people 'static shocks' when he touched them. None of them expected him to do what he did to Luis, but he did. After it happened, Virgil would avoid them if he could help it; he left the room when they entered, wouldn't make eye contact, and barely left his room. This went on for almost two years before Luis managed to talk to him to explain how much he loved him and that he knew what happened wasn't his fault. With the help of his little brother, his silence and absence ended. None of them were the same, but they always stood by each other.

"Your Majesty, how long are we going to sit here while that monster rampages through the land?"

He was yanked from his thoughts upon hearing the king speak to him. Patton glared at him and cleared his throat. "I believe I told you not to call my son a monster," he snapped, which made Logan immediately reach out to grab his arm. He looked back at him; the king was giving him a warning look with his eyes, practically pleading for him not to escalate things further. Patton sighed and turned back to the other king. "We will decide the best course of action once the storm eases-"

"My daughter is missing!"

Everyone turned toward the voice of the worried queen as she stormed toward Patton. "What have you done with my daughter!? Last I saw her she was hanging around your son!" she snapped.

Logan stepped forward in front of Patton, clearing his throat. "Your Majesty, I politely request that you calm down," he said, eyes narrow. "Prince Luis, along with my son, is missing as well. There's a very high likelihood that they are together."

"Then where are they?!" she screeched, making Logan wince a little.

"Prince Luis and Prince Roman are both close with Prince Virgil," he replied calmly. "Perhaps your daughter went with them to search for him."

"WHAT?!!"

This didn't calm the queen at all, and instead caused an outbreak of yelling among the royals in the room. All of them were screaming and hollering accusations left and right. Logan's heart was racing as he tried to think of a way out of the situation.

"ENOUGH!"

All heads turned as King Patton spoke, voice echoing as all fell silent. He lifted his chin, speaking with clear authority. "We are going to wait and see if Prince Luis, Prince Roman, and Princess Thorn return with Prince Virgil or news of him," he said slowly. "If they do not return before this evening, we shall arrange a search party to find them and Prince Virgil. Am I understood?"

Everyone was too scared of the king to disagree directly, all nodding though muttering under their breath.

With a nod, Patton left the room. Logan followed quickly behind, knowing that he wasn't okay. "Patton," he said, as he found him in his room staring out the window. He sat down on the floor next to where he sat on the windowsill as the king looked at him with uncharacteristically dull eyes. "Patton, please talk to me. I can't help you if I'm guessing about how you feel."

The King of Croy just looked back out the window for a moment before looking back at Logan. "Kiss me, please," he whispered, looking down. He looked embarrassed and ashamed to even ask, but Logan's gaze softened at the request. He smiled and took Patton's chin in his hand, tilting it up to look at him as he sat up.

"Of course, your Majesty," he murmured, leaning in to press his lips to his gently. Patton sighed, his eyes slipping closed as he kissed back. When they pulled away, their eyes met. "Better?"

The king nodded, smiling a little. "Thank you," Patton said, voice quiet. "I know you're not a fan of the intimate stuff, so we don't do it a lot, so I'm sorry I asked and yeah..."

"Patton, I may not be the most intimate and romantic person," the other king replied, moving his hand to his cheek. "But I will help you in any way I can. If I wasn't comfortable with something, I'd tell you. Of course I'm not going to mind kissing you."

He smiled at that, looking at his hands. "How did we even happen?" he asked, laughing a little as he tried to distract himself from the storm. "An intimate, affectionate person like me completely in love with a serious, no-nonsense guy like you."

Logan smiled, pulling him to his feet and taking a few steps back. "Well, I believe it went something like this," he said, clearing his throat as bowed to him. "Excuse me, but you looked lonely, may I offer you a dance?"

"But we're outside," Patton replied as he recalled the scene in his head, blushing and smiling. He'd been so upset at a neighboring kingdom's party, worried about his sons back home. He'd retreated from the party to stand outside by himself, and Logan had followed him. "And you should really go back inside and enjoy the party."

The king offered him a hand. "I think I'm exactly where I should be. My offer still stands, a dance?"

"One couldn't hurt, I suppose," Patton replied as he took it and allowed himself to be pulled close with a giggle. Logan smiled as he danced them around the room a little before leaning in to kiss him gently again. When they broke apart, the king spoke again. "You're the best, Logan."

"I certainly disagree, considering I'm looking at the best."
