Chapter 16
Song=Anywhere but here: Mayday Parade
I ran right to her, no one looked in my direction. Not that I was focusing on anyone else. "Jen!" I yelled, not believing that it could be her. She was dead, her mate took her body and left.
She still didn't turn around.
I tapped her on the shoulder, and then walked around her body so we could be face to face. My smile dropped, it wasn't her. Her eye color and structure of her face were all wrong. Giving a quiet, "I'm sorry; I thought you were someone else." I started to walk away.
"Did someone call my name?" I could hear a hint of amusement in the girls voice, a voice I thought I wouldn't hear again.
My head whipped so fast around that I'm surprised it didn't snap. "H-how?"
Jen walked up to me in a completely different outfit then what I last saw on her. A pair of skinny jeans hugged her legs. A loose navy blue shirt hung of her shoulders, wearing a pair of high brown boots. Her outfit wasn't the only thing that was different. Her eye color was now black, and her complexion was pale.
"Y-you're a vampire." I blinked and made sure that what I was seeing was true.
"Well, so are you, but I already knew that." She already knew? I was about to ask, but she looked behind me as I could hear footsteps getting closer. "Thank you Kyle for bringing her, I can take care of everything from here."
I turned around, but Kyle was no longer there.
"Now come along, Chloe." She started walking. I just stared.
"How?" I finally stopped stuttering.
Realizing that I wasn't following she stopped and looked at me. She gave me a small smile. "If you come with me, I will explain everything."
"Okay." Slowly making my way to her we walked in sync until we reached a small sized cabin. Pulling a key out of her pocket she put it in the lock then opened the door.
"Welcome to my home," she said, as she placed the key back in her pocket, and jumped onto the small couch that was against the far wall.
"You live here?" I looked around at the cozy sized place. Details surrounding the ceiling, the fuzzy rug, and the little kitchen.
"Yep." She patted the seat next to her on the couch. "So now that we arrived at the destination you can ask as many questions as you want."
Now that she was giving me the chance to ask whatever I wanted, I didn't know what to ask first. So the best place to start would be the beginning. When I thought she died.
"How are you not dead?"
"Do you want me to be dead?" She asked.
"No! I-it's just..." The stuttering came back.
She started to laugh. "You need to relax, I was just kidding. You can slouch your shoulders. Here, I will go grab some tea." She raced into the kitchen, and in a blink had two mugs in her hand. I was surprised she didn't spill anything on her floor.
Taking a sip of the tea to break the awkward staring contest that seemed to be happening, then placed it down on the table in front of me. "So..." I started to pick up where I left off.
"It worked, I knew it would." Jen mumbled as she put her cup on the table, without taking a sip.
Startled, I asked, "What worked?"
"My plan to get you here."
"You planned for your beloved to come, for you to almost die, and for me to become a vampire!"
"Oh, no...Well, yes? Let me explain. The part with my beloved coming was just luck. Everything seemed to fall into place after that. I told you if we waited something good would come off of it, the perfect opportunity." She opened her arms wide and gestured around her. "Isn't this place so much better then being locked up?" She had a giddy smile on that I wasn't used to. She looked a lot happier.
"Yes it is" I knew she would be talking about this cabin for at least another 30 minutes if I didn't bring her back on track. "So what was the rest of your plan? How did dying and I becoming bitten have to do with 'your plan'?"
"That was something else that wasn't planned, but seemed to work out in our favor. We might not like the outcome, but it's what had to happen for us to be free of that place." She gave a disgusted look at her tea, then brought her legs up to her chest and hugged them . She looked at me, "Im guessing you would like me to explain?"
"Yes, please. Preferably from the beginning."
Nodding her head she started to speak. "You came into the bedroom to see me, the window broke, and people wearing black came in. Am I correct so far?"
I nodded.
"Once the man called me his, I knew I had to do something. I would much rather be dead then be with a vampire. So when I found that piece of glass I thought of nothing else then dying. So I plunged it into my heart. The only thing I heard after that was screaming, a door being slammed, and then some type of substance was being put in my mouth, and a prick was felt on my neck. I knew what he was doing, but I didn't stop it, because another plan was forming in my head. I knew how the changing process was done. I read enough about it in the castle."
"You were allowed to?" After the words escaped my mouth, I wish I asked the question differently. "I mean, I didn't know they would let maids go into the library."
"They didn't, but I found my way in and out some nights when there were barely any guards around. I had to be prepared for anything. I wanted to learn more about vampires, I didn't know what they would try to do to me"
I stared at her, just listening. She wasn't looking at me, but her focus seemed to be on a part of the wall that was above my head.
"I found out that the more blood you take in at once when transforming into a vampire, the more energized you would be. Vampires like to change humans by giving them the least amount of blood possible to transform because then the human will just go to sleep after words, and it also makes the process less painful, they won't feel anything. Is that what happened to you?"
I thought about it, but I didn't go to sleep. "nope."
"Really? So you felt all the pain like I did? Did you feel energized or tired?" Her attention was back to me as she looked between both my eyes. Looking like she was searching for something.
"I was really tired. I could barely move my muscles,"
"You must not have taken a lot of blood. It should have been impossible for you to have stayed awake, but I guess if you are the princes beloved his blood is stronger." She lifted her drink off the table and drank, it was probably cold by now. "Anyways, when a vampire changes a human into a creature of the night they also lose some energy because they are losing blood, but remember a loss of blood will never kill them. So before the man took his wrist off my mouth, I reached my arms up, and held it down, and took in as much as I could. He eventually pulled away, but stumbled to the wall to support himself. That gave me enough time to jump off the bed. He already pulled the glass out of my heart, and when I looked down at my body, I looked to be completely healed. So seeing the opening window, I jumped out and ran."
"No one stopped you?" I was shocked.
"The smell of lavender was still on me, and being a vampire, I had the ability to jump from tree to tree. No one ever saw me. That's also how vampires can't find this place. Its surrounded with the lavender flowers."
I stuck my nose in the air searching for the smell, and sure enough it was slightly faint, but I could still smell it. This cabin was probably far away from the borders.
She did it all by herself. She escaped all by herself and found this place. Thinking back on it Finn never said she was dead, just that she was gone. I had assumed the worst.
Finn didn't want me dead because he thinks I had something to do with his beloved being dead, but because he thought it was my fault she ran.
"Any more questions?" Jen asked, successfully jumping me out of my previous thoughts.
I looked around the room, and back at her."How did you find this place?"
"Lucas and I found it and started bringing humans that wanted to bring down vampires. We tried to be very sneaky about it; we even found some vampires that wanted to bring down their own species. That's how we found Kyle; we have some others, and now me and you."
It felt weird talking about Lucas, it felt so long ago that I met him, and as soon as we met; had died. I keep forgetting Jen knew him way before me. Shaking my head of him I focused my thoughts onto the last part of her plan.
"How did you know that Trent would turn me?"
"As I said before, I didn't know. I just assumed that the vampire prince would want to keep his beloved safe from other vampires. Once he saw that some human could 'die' in the snap of a finger, I would think that he would try to prevent that from happening to his, by turning you into a vampire. And it might seem ridiculous, but because of that he didn't want anyone around you, not even him. To newly turned vampires the slightest noise can wake them up. So my plan was going to work perfectly. I just couldn't go. My beloved would probably still be looking for me. So I sent Kyle. It had to be a vampire to get you and bring you back.
"So why did you?"
"Why did I..." She let the end hang off like a question. She picked the mugs off the table, went to the kitchen and came back.
"Why did you get me out of the castle?" I wasn't complaining why she did, I just didn't understand why she would, she knew I would still go along with killing him, there must be something else.
"Remember the plan that I thought of when I was becoming this." She gestured to her whole body.
I was hesitant to reply, "Yep."
"Part of that plan includes you. I'm sending you back to the castle. Now, you are not just going to kill the vampire prince. You are going to gain his trust, make him fall even more in love with you, and then make him come to this place by himself. Just you and him."
"That is going to give this place away. He is then going to go back to the castle and bring all his soldiers here and kill you and everyone else!" I got off the couch, and she copied my actions.
"Nope, he won't"
"And what makes you so sure of this. You saw his power." I hated that she was being so casual about this, she was risking everyone here. And by the way she described this place it seemed like a lot.
She made her way around the couch and opened the front door. "The walking dead might be able to tell people, but when you are a pile of ashes you can't." She opened the door wider. "So now would you like a tour of the place?"
It's been a month....sorry? Hope this chapter makes up for it :)
I'm so tired now. So there will be mistakes.
