Chapter 27
Song - Only Girl in the World - Rihanna
Sitting on the roof of the warehouse, I watched the sun lower. The sky was filled with a myriad of majestic colours. Dusky pinks and oranges, soft purples rising to the encroaching darkness, all bathed in the golden glow from the sun. With the rising night came a colder air. The blanket around me was fast becoming useless.
The door opened, and Roman poked his head out.
"What are you doing up here?"
"Watching the sunset."
He sat down next to me, saying nothing but still obvious in his thoughts. I handed him the test, expecting a sigh of relief, but got nothing. Roman gave me an odd but soft smile as he handed it back.
"Are you happy or sad about the result?"
"I don't know. When Jas said that we couldn't, I didn't really think about it. Having kids was not something Noah and I talked about in any great detail. I mean, we glazed over it while we were dating, but I didn't really take notice. We were only together for about eighteen months before we married. I guess I understand why he didn't go into it. As for this new situation, I didn't really have time to think about it and consider our future. Now that we're weeks into it, I guess I could easily look at it and see both pros and cons."
"No naked parties."
I grinned, pushing my shoulder against his. Roman leaned closer, kissing the top of my head.
"I'm sorry you're not."
"It's okay. Probably for the best, right?"
"Maybe. I suppose that I should probably fill in the gaps and make sure Jas hasn't filled you with incorrect information."
"I'd rather the secrets you're keeping from me."
"There isn't much more. It's not about you. It's just Dad's desperate need to protect my mother from Otis and his lies. He thinks that if he pretends that the fight and the aftermath never happened, he can shield her from everything."
"But he's spying on the company."
"Well, yeah, because we're all sick of being attacked. Otis isn't adhering to the agreement, which means it is essentially broken. Dad's just retaliating in his own subtle way. He's trying to maintain the agreement to be the bigger man, but he knows it's pointless. As for Noah, I really don't know what I want you to do. A part of me says that I should stand behind you, champion your cause and lift you up but then there's this whisper in the back of my head that says I'm betraying my family. He's my blood and I should be ashamed for letting you hunt him."
"But you remember that he tried to have me killed?"
Roman nodded, sighing as he sank to lean on his knees.
"He didn't tell Otis I was hiding in the house. He didn't say a thing about who attacked him."
Turning his head, Roman looked at me first before rising.
"He's going to use it against you. I can see that things have changed in that house, and he's probably altered your view of him, but trust me when I say that this will be nothing but a new game for him to play."
"He said I've changed."
"You have, but it's not a bad thing, and it's not great either. What you need to think about when considering that statement is what you endured. Your husband had his friend break into your home, knock you out and dump you in the river all because his father said he's not allowed to divorce you. He lets his father rule his life and control your marriage, even if you never saw it. Your husband treated you as if you were a toy and was all too happy to toss you aside when something else came along. You could even put aside what Noah did and think about what has gone on with Jas and me. We're no saints. We've got our demons and are not the perfect partnership. We're bound by rules, much like Noah is. And yes, I let my father dictate aspects of my relationship with you. He's not a part of what we are but unfortunately, our actions do affect him so at some point, he could have some say. I guess it's like all things really."
I sighed heavily. This was not easy. I never had to deal with a third party in my relationship. At least, I never thought I had to. Apparently, there was a father-in-law who liked to stick his nose in, and it seemed as if it was no different in this new relationship.
It also occurred to me that I've just bounced from Noah to Roman and Jasper. Rebounding was never a good idea. I didn't want to walk away from this place, but we were struggling to breathe.
"Look, I understand that your father has to have some element of control over what happens in this city to ensure that the underground movement keeps the vampires safe. I think you need to set boundaries with him because not everything I do concerns him. If you want this to work between us, you need to ensure he doesn't interfere because there's only so much I will take before I snap. I was the meek mouse, but not anymore."
I stood and inhaled deeply.
"My rules are simple. Don't lie to me, don't keep secrets, keep external influences to a minimum. Can we do this, or am I asking too much of you?"
Roman lifted his gaze and then stood. He was close, and I could feel the charge growing between us. If we were in the warehouse, I could see him pinning me to the wall in a fiery embrace.
"We can do this."
The tone was filled with heat, oozing lust, with just four words that were growled out.
Taking my hand, Roman led me back to the door, locking it behind us. Jasper was sitting on the bed, ready to read, until he saw the fine creature move in behind me.
With his hands on my hips, Roman pulled me back against him. My head tilted as his lips pressed against my neck. Jasper put his book aside, grinning as he crawled over to me. Resting back on his legs, he began unbuttoning my jeans. They were pulled as far as my knees, Jasper eagerly moving to the next layer.
His hands smoothed over the back of my thighs as he teased the tip of his tongue against the skin. My legs had been lifted, the jeans and pants removed. I gasped as he shifted closer, one of my legs draped over his back, giving him better access.
My moan of ecstasy was muffled by the demanding kiss from Roman. He'd pulled away my clothes, leaving me bare.
Roman's hand smoothed over my ribs, rising over the curve, roughly caressing the flesh. Between the two of them, they worked me into a pliable creature. Pleasure rose easily. These two knew me so well. It was like they were wired to me.
My legs weakened when Jasper slid his fingers into me. I broke from the kiss and groaned. Roman pulled the hair from my neck and bit me. Ecstasy slid through me, and my body writhed with intense sensations.
As my head rolled back against Roman's body, I knew that there would never be a moment where I could decide between them. There was no one lover in my bed, no picking one over the other. I wanted Jasper and Roman, and the greedy woman I'd become would ensure that I never had to go without either of them.
