7. Believing in fairy tales

Believer by Imagine Dragons

First things first

I'mma say all the words inside my head

I'm fired up and tired of the way that things have been, oh ooh

The way that things have been, oh ooh

Second things second

Don't you tell me what you think that I could be

I'm the one at the sail, I'm the master of my sea, oh ooh

The master of my sea, oh ooh

I was broken from a young age

Taking my sulking to the masses

Writing my poems for the few

That look at me, took to me, shook to me, feeling me

Singing from heartache from the pain

Taking my message from the veins

Speaking my lesson from the brain

Seeing the beauty through the...

Pain!

You made me a, you made me a believer,

Believer!

Pain!

You break me down, you build me up, believer,

Believer!

Pain!

Oh let the bullets fly, oh let them rain

My life, my love, my drive, it came from...

Pain!

You made me a, you made me a believer,

Believer!

Ozpin watched through the security cameras as he watched Ziana and Alexa kill a Nargacuga with little difficulty. Of course, he knew since they were more experience. Beside him is Glynda, who is also watching the video.

"James isn't wrong." said his fellow Professor, Glynda Goodwitch as she approached his desk with her scroll in hand. "We know nothing of the people PTNM brought in. They may have a rough history, but there's no way of knowing that WE could be the ones to get backstabbed."

Ozpin hummed, "Perhaps. But there is just something about them that seems...familiar." He turns to back to frozen image of Ziana and Alexa standing over the dead Nargacuga with their backs facing the camera.

Looking closely, he noticed something a marking on Ziana's upper back. Curious, he touched the spot causing the image to enhance on the screen, the pixels settling into focus making the image more clear.

Squinting and enhancing the image again to get a more upclose view...the mug slipped from his hand, shattering on the floor as he reeled his head back in shock.

"Ozpin?!" Glynda said alarmed. "What is it?!" she came around the desk and looked at the image her boss had seen. Her own eyes widening when she took in what was shown. "Is...Is that...?"

"It would appear so, Glynda." Ozpin finally said.

"There is no doubt that is the mark of Noctis the Moon Demon."

"We're back!" Ziana called as she and Alexa walked inside the gate, with the Nargacuga's corpse in a wagon in tow. People gather around the them and starts asking questions. Others are taking the corpse to the blacksmith for future uses of weapons and armor.

After a few weeks, Yukumo Village had improved a lot. It was a small village at first. Then as time grows by, it began growing larger and larger.

"So good to be back home." Alexa said.

"You said it." Ziana complimented.

Ziana walked towards a shop and asked for a drink. The shopkeeper complied and gave her a green drink. Ziana thanked him and chugged it all down. She sighed as she regained some of her health.

"How's the trip?" Zen, who just recently walked up to her older sister, asked. "I take it's a good one."

Ziana looks at her and shrugs. "Eh, the usual. Being called upon, hunting Monsters, killing Grimm on the way home." She looked around. "Where's Johnny by the way?"

"Hunting a Silver Monoblos." Zen replied. "Though I think he could be back any minute now."

Before Ziana could say anything, her Scroll rang. Pulling it out, she saw it is from Ozpin. She is confused. "Ozpin needed us."

Zen also became confused. "But you just exterminated the Nargacuga." She said

"Probably something else that he is asking." Ziana said. "Well, I think I need to go alone on this one."

"Sure I'll tell Alexa and Johnny about it." Zen said. "Take care of yourself."

Ziana nodded and the two sister hug before Ziana went out to meet Ozpin. Just as Johnny came from the other side.

"Hey," Johnny said, seeing Ziana walking out. "Where is she going aren't they done with the mission?"

"Well....." Zen began.

Ozpin stood in his office, looking out one of the large bay windows toward Vale with coffee mug in hand. He'd been doing a lot of that in the last couple of days, deep in thought as he went over how things had changed so drastically in a mere 48 hours.

The headmaster had seen and endured a lot in his surprisingly long life, he'd even done a great many things, some good, others that will haunt him to his dying days. But every careful step he had made had been for Remnant's best interest, some of them carrying great weight that weighed heavily on his shoulders.

But, something he hadn't expected had made itself known, something he thought that he'd never lay eyes upon again and yet saw proof of it the day before. There were many legends and myths surrounding their world's history, many are passed off as just stories to inspire children in one way or another.

Ozpin, however, knew differently. The legend of the Four Maidens being proof that even the grandest of tales had a great deal of truth to them and needed to not only be kept safe, but secret as well, lest the consequences be dire.

Now the headmaster was feeling his age, part of him still couldn't believe what the frozen image gave him. The symbol inscribed on her back...burned brightly into his mind's eye.

There was only one being that bore such a mark, and Ozpin never believed that he would see them again after all this time.

Noctis the Moon Demon.

The Silver Rathalos of the Moon is no longer a legend as Ozpin thought is was. The Monster that had gone head-to-head with the Four Maidens and beaten them. Adding the fact it is immortal only amazed and frightened him more.

There is a ding as the elevator arrives. Ozpin looks up to see Ziana by herself. Smiling,he stood up.

"Thank you for coming on such short notice." Nodding in silence, Ziana stares as Ospin walks to the glass window.

"Tell me something Ziana," Ozpin mused. "Do you believe in fairy tales?"

Ziana looked at the Headmaster before replying, "Do you believe in the legend of Noctis the Moon Demon?"

"At first I simply though of it as a mere myth." Ozpin started. "But after what I saw the symbol on your back and what happened years ago, I do now."

"Long ago, when humanity was just starting to push back against the Grimm, something unexpected. The moon shattered, and one creature spawned from it came down to unleash hell. Noctis the Moon Demon. He also gets his name "The Beheader" because he beheads countless humans, Faunus and Grimm alike and taking their heads for trophies. And soon, more creatures like himself appeared, dubbed "Monsters". Making the war a triple threat conflict. And one time, he had stood up against the Four Maidens, another legend that is real. But as the battle continued, Noctis is revealed to be immortal and cannot be killed by any means. Some would even say is the created by a god who had enough of humanity wasting resources or killing each other. However, Noctis eventually learned that the Maidens are protectors as he is. And so, he spared them and left. Becoming nothing more than legends in children's books."

Ozpin stops and looks at Ziana. "But the fact you have Noctis' symbol proves he is no longer a myth. We are not you and your village's enemies. But if you are to trust us, we need you to tell us about yourself. So please, trust us." Ozpin pleads with her.

Ziana looks down, thinking. 'I can't just trust them blindly and spill my guts to them. After what happened after so many years. And I'm pretty sure they have their own secrets." With a long sigh, she looks up and stares into his eyes. "Fine. But only a few necessary things."
