Even sitting in a hospital bed covered in burn treatment, you were still buzzing with energy over the whole situation. Maybe it was the adrenaline wearing off, maybe it was the fact you'd just had a brush with death (again). But you were eager to hear how everything had turned out back at school, you had your nose stuck in your phone reading all the messages from the club group chat about what was going on.

Once you were picked up by the ambulance, the cops had arrived just as you were leaving and the school was still in lockdown. So everything else that happened after that you were being told via text every few minutes.

So far, Light and Mikami were detained. Light had un-frozen by now, Deuce's power wearing off. The almost victim was alright, the mild allergy symptoms had subsided with some medication. Everyone that was at the scene was being questioned. So the suspects, the club members, Frankie and Deuce, the head mistress, everyone. You expected a cop to show up in your room and question you soon enough too.

Knowing they'd want to question everyone, you and the club agreed to come clean and tell the truth. Explaining you didn't come forward earlier to protect Misa from the blackmail that'd only put her in further harm. They'd understand a bunch of teenagers logic to pull off a stunt like that if it was to protect a friend. You'd still probably get a bit of a verbal grilling about not coming forward with the information sooner, but to keep that tape from getting out? That was a price you were willing to pay.

The forms of the suspects were being searched, as well as the school as a whole. All the students were sent back to their dorms and told to stay inside while the investigation was going on.

So far, no news on convictions or anything of the sort. Although you didn't expect them anytime soon, they had to do a full investigation first.

A knock on the door caught your attention, and when it opened you were met with a police officer and a nurse. You knew you'd be questioned, matter of time.

"(Y/n), I'm sure you understand what needs to be done here" the nurse said.

"I figured I'd get questioned" you replied.

"Are you feeling well enough to do so?"

"Yeah, the painkillers have kicked in now. Just a bit of a sting but I can handle it"

Leaving the officer to question you, he sat by the bed with his notebook and introduced himself. Explained that he'd just questioned some of the club members and needed your side of things too. You were willing to answer everything, that bastard shinigami and the zombie that burnt you needed to be put behind bars.

"So, you and the rest of the club began to investigate because of an anonymous tip sent to the blog correct?" He asked.

"Correct" you replied.

"You tried to follow the tippers clues, but the culprit was too sneaky to catch I've heard"

"Yeah. We went to the sport day both because Matt and Mello were playing in it and because we wanted to try and catch the guy. But whatever he did he was crafty about it and we didn't see anything"

The officer jotted down all the answers, making sure your story lined up with the others.

"And how did you figure out the killer was Yagami?" He asked.

"One of the students, Frankie. They have next to photographic memory and noticed suspicious activity by seeing someone wandering around behind the school. They remembered the shoes and by matching up the shoes they saw with pictures of the students we figured it was Light. Then Misa confirmed it herself to us later" you explained.

"Was Misa involved in the killings?"

"She knew about them, but didn't actively commit any. The reason she never came forward was because Light has some life ruining blackmail on her"

The officer seemed annoyed at the mention of the blackmail, writing your answer down and reading over everything you'd said again.

"Yes I've been told about that blackmail... I understand why she was scared to say anything... she acted as your whistleblower and gave you the information needed to perform the ambush?" He asked.

"Yep, all of this was possible because she had the courage to come forward to someone. Even if it wasn't police she did contribute to the capture. Please don't punish her, if you have to don't do it too badly. She'd been through enough" you replied.

"She didn't actively kill, she won't be arrested. Depending on the investigation maybe a little slap on the wrist for withholding information, but given the way the story plays out I doubt the jury will decide on that"

Oh good, she was just as much a victim in all this as everyone else was. The real ringleader was Light, followed by Mikami. Misa and Takada were looped into it because Light was good at manipulating their feelings for him.

"You identify Teru Mikami as the man who burnt you correct?" He asked.

"That's him, bloody bastard..." you sighed.

"He'll absolutely be charged for that, don't you worry. And this fight that broke out between Yagami and Lawliet, you intervened?"

"I did, I know beating him up isn't exactly a good thing but I needed to get him off L so he could get medical aid for the allergic reaction to the garlic oil Light covered him in" You explained.

The officer wrote down all your words, looking them over compared to the statements of everyone else he interviewed, you couldn't read everything he'd written as quickly as he was skimming them over but he seemed satisfied with the outcome. You assumed that your story matched everyone else's, why wouldn't it? It was the truth.

"Alright, thank you (l/n). As the investigation continues you may need to be further questioned. In which case we'll contact the school and have it formally done, for now you just focus on recovering" he said.

With that, he was off to continue the investigation and in came out he nurse who checked up on your burns and had you move around a bit to see how bad the pain was now medication had kicked in. Luckily you weren't so badly damaged you'd need to stay in hospital for weeks on end. Just overnight so they could ensure no infections or anything of the sort. The burns were only first degree, a few small patches went into second degree but they'd heal with the right treatment. You'd be pretty scarred, but oh well. You were a ghost, transparent anyway. It wouldn't be super easy to see them.

After a while of continuing to read through all the text updates you were getting, you noticed L had stopped responding. You just assumed he was being questioned or something, but a little while later you heard rushed footsteps approach the door and it swung open. L rushed over to you, grabbing you into a hug.

"Oh my gods you're ok! I was so worried" he sighed in relief.

"I'm alright, burnt but ok. Just don't squeeze too hard it'll sting" you replied, giving him a kiss on the cheek.

"How bad? You won't need any surgery or anything?"

"I'll be alright. Scarred but alright, I'm only in here overnight so they can make sure nothing gets infected while it's still fresh"

The next set of footsteps to approach the door you recognised from earlier in the night and when you looked over at the doorway, there stood the head mistress.

"He wouldn't stop asking questions until he saw you" she said.

"I figured" you snickered, giving L a smile.

He blushed a little, admittedly really worried and desperate to know you were alright.

"It's good to see you're ok, I can assure you that this will be dealt with" she said.

"I know, there's no way he'd gonna get away with assaulting another student. Goes against the school rules AND the law" you replied.

"I understand why you lot kept the information after hearing the full story about the blackmail, but you guys really should have at least told a staff member. Your plan may have worked but it was incredibly dangerous you know, I am impressed with your investigative skills but the safety of the students is top priority ok? Next time a drastic situation happens, tell one of the staff members alright?"

You and L nodded in agreement, you all knew this plan was a reckless one and quite frankly a dumb idea if it'd backfired. But it worked didn't it?

"Your schooling will be put on hold while you recover, don't worry about missed assignments. The next few weeks you'll get an automatic pass on whatever is assigned, just make sure when you have recovered you continue to do good ok? You're a well performing student, it'd be a shame to loose that success streak of yours" the head mistress said.

"Of course, thanks ma'am" You replied.

L sighed in relief, he was worried for you. By some miracle you were ok, and didn't have to worry about school on top of all the burn recovery. He gave you a gentle squeeze and nuzzled into the crook of your next.

"I'm glad you're ok, you had me worried sick" he said.

"It takes more than some holy water to kill me a second time. As if I'd die on you, you'd me a wreck without me" you teased.

"You say that like it's a joke, but I really would be (y/n). I'd be a complete wreck without you..."
