chapter one | breathe
There was a fire deep inside my soul, forcing me to push on. As I trudged my way to the location of the alleged "Alexandria", I passed many houses with huge red 'X's spray painted on the front door of each of them. Curiosity got the best of me, causing me to walk toward a large house with a red X on it. I figured it was meant to be symbol that meant the house was overrun with the infected. I ambled to the door and knocked.
A short time later, there was a clank and something shattered. I sucked in a quick, shallow gasp as I heard someone breathe raggedly on the other side of the door. I backed away aimlessly, tripping backwards off the stairs. I groaned and held my arm, a bruise quickly forming on my forearm. I rose my body from the ground, a foul stench hitting my nose and making my eyes water. I whipped my head around to see a small herd of walkers, eight or nine of them. I rolled my eyes and started to tromp toward Alexandria again.
--
It's been about 15 minutes, and the walkers neared me as I approached another small sign stuck into the ground with silver metal prongs connected to the cardboard sign with hot glue. 'Alexandria; homes from the low 800's, next right!' A wave of accomplishment and ecstatic joy washed through me. I beamed, starting to sprint towards the neighborhood. I approached another sign that says, 'Turn here!'
...What I saw... It amazed me in ways that you could not believe.
As the story progresses, the chapters will grow longer. I apologize for the length of this chapter. Stay tuned for more!
