Chapter 31 (Rewritten)

Update 7/18/24: slight changes and modifications

"YOU CAN WHAT!?" Hange asked.

After 'successfully' capturing the female titan and hearing about the events that happened, you thought about your last conversation with Eren.

He was right. You couldn't hide the fact that you were titan shifter. You were just about confused about your sudden news as he was.

...

"No, I haven't told anyone yet." Eren replied.

You were better enough to walk around and decided to check in with Eren. Mikasa left the room after Eren told her the both of you needed privacy, showing you, he didn't forget your prior conversation.

You wanted to thank him, but he wasn't done.

"But I still think you should let them know. This is something you can't keep to yourself. What if you transform accidentally, they're going to think you've been hiding it. Lying to them!"

You lowered your head.

"But I know you aren't lying. Just like me, I never knew I was a titan shifter until that day. Who's knows how long I've had these powers, it's probably the same for you too."

You faced him once again.

"Besides, if you let them know now. They'll find a way to help you train it. Like what they're doing with me."

You still weren't sure. You were about to reveal something you never even knew you had, what will Commander Erwin think? What will Captain think!?

"I was serious about before. I will tell them if you don't let them know."

You glared at him.

"Damn you, Eren..."

"Hey! I'm doing this because I know it's the right thing!" He argued.

The two of you faced each other, Eren's eyes then softened.

"And...I care about you." He confessed.

Your eyes widened slightly.

He avoided eye contact with you, but he still remained serious.

You let out a sigh, guess you were doing this.

...

"You can transform into a titan...?" Hange asked, mostly still in disbelief.

You nodded again.

"When was this!?" Captain immediately stepped in.

Your eyes darted, you shrugged.

"Have you've been hiding this!?"

"No!" You shook your head frantically.

"Levi! She really doesn't know!" Section Commander interjected.

He let out an exhale.

"So I wasn't seeing things."

"What?"

"That third titan, the one that was also going up into smokes. That was you, wasn't it?"

You slowly nodded again. He tsked.

"Dammit." He cursed, trying to accept the fact there is another titan shifter in the Survey Corps.

Hange stared at the floor, their hands coming up to their mouth.

"This is--! This is big! Huge! We have to let the Commander know!"

"That's obvious. He has to know about this."

"I know! I know! I just spur my thoughts out a lot! It's how I think."

"Shocker you can do that."

"You shush up!"

You giggled slightly at the two bickering.

"Okay, okay. First things first, how are we going to deliver this. Commander Erwin needs to know and safely rely on the message to the military police. If word gets out that we've been hiding that Y/n is a titan shifter, that just spells bad news." Hange said.

"But before we do that, let's focus on getting more information." Captain replied. He turned to you.

"I'm guessing Yeager knows about this."

You nodded.

"And those smaller titans that were about to arrive at the scene, did you summon them."

You made a face.

"Wait...I summoned smaller titans?" You thought.

"When I was in the forest, I heard a titan roar. It wasn't Eren's nor the Female Titans'. It was different and I already suspected there was another titan shifter. That being yours."

"So, your abilities must be similar to the Female Titans' one." Hange said.

You looked down, putting your face in your hands.

"I can tell by you're trying to accept this too."

You nodded. How? Why? Why is this happening?

But then, a thought came to you.

Annie...knew you.

And you are a titan shifter, just like her.

Your mind raced back to when you overheard Reiner's conversation with Annie and Bertholdt. They were talking about you, weren't they?

You all knew each other. Which means...

No...it can't be.

"I guess this also changes Erwin's plans for Y/n." Hange's voice brought you back to reality.

You let out a sigh, guess that means Captain is switching up your training.

"Don't be discouraged, dear! You actually did us a huge favor by letting us know. With the fact that you're a titan shifter, we could use your abilities in a lot more ways!"

"Let's not jump to conclusions. We have no idea how her titan abilities work. She can be a danger to all of us."

"Yeah, you're right. Which means--"

"..!!" Hange leaped forward and took both of your hands in theirs.

"I have an excuse to work with you!"

Oh...right.

Oh dear...

"Hange..." Captain warned.

"We're excited to see what you can accomplish with us," Hange eagerly said.

"...!?" Your eyes darkened as you tensed up. You've heard those words before.

...

A blurred-out face of an older man clutched both of your hands, the gesture being a friendly one as he stared down at you.

"I'm excited to see what you can accomplish for this family." he spoke.

You felt yourself smiling at him, giving his hand a squeeze.

Everything faded to black, and you were met with a loud ringing noise.

Your eyes opened again; you could hear the sounds of your cries.

Your hands were covered with parts of blood and your knuckles were bruised. The blood wasn't yours though.

You heard footsteps approach you, you saw a larger one takes yours. The other wiping the blood off your hands.

"You did good. More than good."

You let out a choked sob, the voice continuing the soothe you.

"If you keep this up, you'll inherit my titan in no time."

...

You felt a hand touch your arm; you acted out of instinct to defend yourself from the unwanted touch.

*SMACK*

"OW!" You heard a yelp.

"...!" you recoiled back as you were brought back to reality. Your eyes landed on Hange who was covering their face. Captain Levi. who just watched what transpired was visibly surprised.

Hange removed their hands from their face, revealing obvious redness to their right cheek. They hissed at they ran their fingers across the area.

Oh my god...

You just slapped Hange. Who is SECTION COMMANDER! Meaning you just slapped a higher-up.

You went into a panic. You kept your distance and went down to your knees. You couldn't say sorry and beg for forgiveness, so you instead had to show them. You were in deep shit now.

"Have you lost your mind, cadet!?" Captain yelled at you, making you wince. You deserved to be yelled at.

"Levi, Levi. It's okay. It's my fault. I think I might have triggered her by accident and touching her arm was not the best move on my part." Hange explained.

You refused to look up at them. Your head remained bowed to the ground, visibly shaking and waiting for whatever punishment that was about to come.

Seeing you react this way and Hange explaining made Captain calm down a bit. Of course, he was still going to deal with you for what you just did. Possibly add more hours to your training. But he can sympathize with going through triggering events.

He was more surprised on how you had the guts to strike a higher-up.

"Ow...wow, you're really strong, Y/n!" Even though they were hurt, Hange was smiling through their pain.

"Tch, can't say you deserve it."

"What!?"

"It's like you said. You touched her when she was obviously distressed and needed space."

While Levi and Hange bickered, you felt horrible. Hange was only trying to help and then this...

It was taking a lot for you to not cry right now. Hange seemed to notice how you still haven't lifted your hand. The sight was sad to see.

"Hey, it's okay. Like I said, I overstepped your boundaries. I'm okay, I've dealt with worse. I was just worried. You had a very...concerning expression. I just wanted to know if you were alright."

"..."

"You suddenly froze up and let go of my hands. Your eyes were dazed like in a trance and your hands were balled up into fists." Hange explained.

"Before I knew it, I went to touch your arm to get your attention. Which earned me a slap to the face because it was obvious you didn't want to be touched."

'I'm so sorry!' you signed.

"Ah, it's okay. I'll be fine." Hange reassured.

"You want to take the week off or something?" Captain asked with obvious mockery. Since you were making the slap to be a big deal.

"Wait...are you...joking with me!?" Hange asked in surprise.

"Do I look like the type of joke."

"Well..."

"Pfft--!" You covered your mouth, about to laugh.

One glare from Captain made you scrunch up, but after a little while. You burst out laughing. Hange's eyes sparkled slightly but held their happiness back.

They managed to make you laugh. Your voice was rather soft.

"Guess Y/n understands our humor..." Hange beamed.

*Time Skip to a few days later*

You watched as everyone gathered around in carriages, getting ready to head out somewhere. You didn't know where exactly.

"Y/n. You're going to catch a cold." Mikasa said to you as she wrapped you gently in the cloak.

While doing so you looked at her with slight interest.

Her attitude towards you. Something's different about it...

It's been a few weeks after you all captured Annie. Eren and you felt better since those events. But things have been rough. And Eren still hasn't made a full recovery.

You on the other hand, was still processing everything.

Commander Erwin was informed about you being a titan shifter, he later reported it to the military police who let relayed it to the King.

The situation was handled, and luckily you didn't have to go through any trial. You didn't exactly harm anyone or was destructive, so what could they trial you for?

It didn't take long for whereabouts of you being a titan shifter came out; all of your friends were equally shocked.

No one believed it at first, but they had Eren confirm it later. It was a lot to take in, and you were still processing.

But that was a problem to go over later.

"We're here~" a familiar voice called out.

You looked up to find Hange, Captain Levi, and a strange man dressed in priest's clothes coming in your direction.

Once they sat down, Armin stared in slight shock at the stranger.

"Hange...What is a wall priest doing here?"

"Oh..him. Well Nick and I are very good friends and he's going to help us. Isn't that right Levi?"

Captain just rolled his eyes.

"Let's go." he said to the driver.

"Yes sir."

And with that, you all took off.

You stared at the man called Nick with slight curiosity. He caught you staring, which caused you both to make eye contact.

You quickly looked away, feeling awkward and thinking that might have been rude to stare.

But even as you did look away, you still felt his eyes on you. Okay...this was getting uncomfortable. Why is he still staring at you?

"Hange...you never really explained why a wall priest is coming along with us." Armin mentioned.

"Oh, I guess I forgot. Well, long story short. Good old Nick here knows something about the titans in the walls but refuses to tell us anything about them. Which is why he's not speaking."

Your eyes slightly widened. Really!?

So all this time, someone knew!? Of course someone had to, someone built the walls over that titan all those years ago.

That information must have been passed down and kept away from the public. But why though? Something didn't feel right...

Eren didn't seem happy with that answer.

"Hell no! We're doing this backwards! If this son of a bitch knows something he better come out with it! Humanity's on the brink of extinction and all you care about is keeping your oath!?"

That outburst made him falter back and hold his head. You began to grow worried.

"Hey, take it easy. You're still not fully recovered." Mikasa said.

Eren settled down a bit and noticed you looking at him.

'You okay?' You signed.

"I'm fine, Y/n. You don't have to worry." he gently ruffled your hair, making you pout.

"Quick that, not when people are around." You thought while playfully pushing his hand away.

You then heard a sound that sounded oddly familiar, but forgot the name.

"There's more than one way to get the truth. I may not be in top form at the moment. But it doesn't take much strength to pull a trigger. I'm genuinely hoping I don't have to blow a hole in you to settle this. How about you?"

You shivered at Captain's threatening words.

"Threatening him is not going to get him to talk, Levi."

Armin quickly changed the subject.

"Hange...the point of this mission is to plug the hole back, right? How are we going to do that?"

"Well I'm glad you asked, my boy. This right here." they pulled out a rock.

You raised an eyebrow. What's that going to do?

"Where did you get that?"

"I got this from Annie's crystal." Hange smiled.

"Rocks sure seem fascinating to you, doesn't it. You look you're about to drool."

"How can I not!? Annie was able to produce something like this to not only climb up the walls but crystallized herself inside. If Annie was able to do something like that, then Eren can do the same thing to plug in the wall."

"You think...I really can?" Eren asked.

"Of course."

Wow...

"I'll...I'll try to use that...to plug the wall back."

"This isn't some sort of 'try.' attempt Eren. We're all counting on you so I expect you to be able to do this with ease." Levi said.

"But still, how is he not able to try? He just learned that he can do something like this." You wanted to argue.

You can tell Eren was experiencing the heavy pressure of this situation. Sort of felt bad for him.

"Yes sir!" Eren replied after a few moments of silence.

"What about Y/n?" Armin asked the real question.

"Since she's...a titan shifter too. She should be able to do the same thing too, right?"

"You're absolutely right, Armin. We--" Hange began to explain.

Captain interrupted them.

"It's best to leave it to Yeager to plug the wall. As for L/n, until we find a way to help her control her titan; she's just about a danger to us if she transforms."

It fell silent, you didn't mind sitting on the sidelines for this. You weren't too fond of using your titan abilities right now.

Without knowing you began to space out. The slow horse carriage ride was relaxing and nice touch to put your thoughts together.

After a while of spacing you, you began to grow tired. You slowly, but slightly laid your head on Armin's shoulder. Catching a little bit of sleep didn't seem too bad. Not before seeing the hard stare of Pastor Nick looking right at you.

Old Author's Note: Noooooo. I'm going back to school tomorrow. Can winter break come already!? Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the chapter. There's more to come. Might not be any frequent updates because my schedule should be packed by again. Sorry...
