Chapter 24 (Rewritten)
You found yourself feeling a bit better after that moment. You learned something new yet expected of your squad mates.
In that moment, they were just afraid. Eren's titan abilities was something new none of you can understand. It couldn't blame them for being afraid and tense towards him, but that didn't make their actions okay.
And later, they knew it was wrong to say those things to Eren. And thus did a weird apology that made you all feel better.
"Hey, Y/n. You got some time?" Eren asked.
Your eye shifted about, but you waited for him to continue.
"I was wondering if we could talk--or did what we did the last time. By the stairs."
You nodded and the two of you went into your sort of secret spot.
The two of you sat down, there was an obvious awkward silence between the both of you.
"Tomorrow's the expedition. We'll get to see Mikasa and Armin again. And we'll finally get to see what's outside the walls." Eren suddenly brought up.
Your eyes slightly widened, you never thought of that.
This is really it. After so long at staring at them; the walls. You'll see what is on the other side.
"Of all people, I thought you would at least be a lot more excited than that."
"(--;I would be if I wasn't so tired..."
You yawned and Eren chuckled.
"Come on Y/n, don't fall asleep on me now." he nudged your shoulder.
"Ugh...fine..."
You turned to face him, giving him an annoyed look.
Eren stares at your face for a few moments before his eyebrows furrowed. You grew nervous.
"(・・;), uhh...something wrong Eren?"
"Do you keep your eyepatch on you all the time? I mean, I know I'm not supposed to pry. But I never seen you take it off."
You felt yourself tense up immediately but then let out a sigh. This was bound to come up eventually.
"No, that was probably stupid. You lost your eye, of course you can't take it off."
Not exactly. The reason for your eyepatch was because one eye was a different color than the other. It was noticeable too and you got a lot of stares in the past because of it. You were reminded by your eye every time you took it off.
You closed for eye for a moment, debating whether or not Eren should see. You could sense he was curious but didn't want to seem rude prying.
With one more sigh, you began to untie your eyepatch. Eren's eyes widened.
"Wait! What are you doing!? Hey, no--! You don't have to!" He grabbed onto your hands to stop to.
You shook your head. You wanted him to.
"Are you sure...?" Eren asked one more time.
You nodded before undoing your patch from the back.
Your eyepatch was now in your hand, you moved your hair slightly out of the way. Eren's breath hitched as he faced you.
"W-woah! Your eyes! They're--different. I didn't know that can---" Eren stopped himself.
Typical reaction from him.
"Sorry," he muttered, realizing he might have offended you.
"It's just...wow..."
Eren opened his mouth to say something but then closed it, looking away. Your heart sank.
Shit...you made him uncomfortable.
Your eye did scare your grandparents when they first saw it, you hid it ever since to keep them from being uncomfortable. And to prevent others from looking down at you.
"Y/n...I'm sorry, I shouldn't have--" You shook your head.
"It's okay..."
"It's not as bad as you think! I honestly think it's cool!"
"He thinks it's cool?"
"Pfft--!!" You held back a laugh. Then you couldn't and covered your mouth as you began laughing.
Eren stared at you in bewilderment, you let out a sigh and smiled slightly. That went way better than how you thought it was going to go.
"Hold did you get it?"
'I always had it. Ever since I was a baby,' you signed.
"It doesn't bother you, like at all?"
You shrugged.
It was hard to accept it at first, but you learned there was nothing you can do about it. Just shield it away and hope people don't ask about it.
"I get it. You worry people are going to look at you differently. But I don't think you should."
"Hm?" You looked at him.
"It's something you can't control, and people can't hate you for something that's out of your control. So, what if your eyes are different colors!? That doesn't change about what we all think about you. What I think about you."
Huh, you never thought about it that way. That's actually a good way to put it.
"By the way, I've wanted to say 'thanks again'."
"What for?" You tilted your head.
"Training's been tough, especially since my titan powers are not fully controlled. But I'm glad I have you by my side working just as hard. I owe you one. I seriously think you'll become a good solider. Probably get an awesome title like Captain Levi!"
'Got any names for me?'
"I can think of a couple for you," he teased.
"This is embarrassing to admit, but I look up to you. I've always had ever since we became training scouts. But at the same time, I'm jealous of you. Here you are training to fight titans, while I haven't improved one bit. I'm most likely gonna be protected once we reach outside..."
You furrowed your eyebrows and let out a sigh. You placed a hand on his shoulder.
'Don't think that.' You signed.
"Huh?"
'You're strong. In your own way.'
"Heh...you think I'm strong?"
'Not compared to me, but yeah.'
"Hey!"
You stuck your tongue at him. He chuckled.
"Hehehe...but really...thanks." His eyes stared into yours.
"..." Everything went quiet as you both stared into each other's eyes. You glanced away, nervous at the long eye contact. You looked at him again to find his face turning away from yours.
"Hmm?" You raised an eyebrow.
Was he...blushing!?
"Ah...?" you let out a confused sound.
"Y/N... you're just--so..."
You raised an eyebrow.
"So...?" You thought. What's he going to say?
"I--never mind."
"W-we should probably go to bed before we get caught again. I'll see you tomorrow." He quickly got up before descending his way to the cellar. You blinked a couple times.
You made Eren blush...
You chuckled a bit as you thought back to what he was about to say. He didn't even finish his sentence and you already have multiple guesses on what it might have been.
"No need to tell me, Eren. I already know..." you thought.
*Time Skip* (Eren's POV)
I let out a groggily groan as daylight burned my eyes. I slowly sat up and rubbed my eyes.
This was it, the day of the expedition. The mission outside the walls.
As I was preparing myself, I heard someone come in.
"Heh? Y/n?" I asked.
She was carrying a tray and nodded at me.
"Good morning. Is that for me?"
She nodded before walking up to me and placing the tray down.
"Thanks..." I mumbled a bit.
"Hm..." She nodded again.
An awkward silence loomed over, I watched as she seemed to move somewhat nervously.
"Oh..." I noticed her straps.
"Your straps are messed up a bit."
"Hm!?" She checked herself. She groaned while I laughed a bit.
"You don't know how to put on your straps correctly."
She huffed and looked away.
"You don't!?"
She stomped her feet, obviously I was annoying her. And she was admitting my point.
"What are you throwing a tantrum for? That's childish."
She looked at me offended.
'Like you're not one!' She signed.
I chuckled before seeing what food she brought me.
"Did you eat already?"
She looked off to the side. My eyebrows furrowed.
"You didn't eat!?" I exclaimed.
She nodded in agreement.
'You need it more than me.'
"Huh? Why would I need it more?"
'You said you had trouble transforming. You need your strength.'
...What?
"So that's what this is about? You pity me?"
"Hmm!?" She looked at me in slight shock.
"You don't think I can transform!? Is that it!?"
Did she not believe in me? After telling me, she thought I was strong!? Did she not have faith in me!?
She shook her head frantically.
"So why!? Why are you looking after me now!? When we're about to go on this expedition!?"
I didn't expect her to answer, I keep forgetting who I'm talking to.
I let out a sigh.
"I just...since today's the expedition. I already know there's going to be a lot of pressure on me. Everyone's going to try to protect me, including you."
"And...I don't want you to get hurt because of me."
Her eyes softened as I went quiet.
She moved in closer to me, placing a hand on my shoulder.
Her eyes...they were determined.
She then smacked her chest.
'You don't have to worry about me. Nobody can take me down that easily.' She signed.
I chuckled slightly.
"Yeah, you're right. You are the girl you headbutted and punched Humanity's Strongest. You made his nose bleed!" I reminded her.
"Pfft--!" She held back a laugh.
"But seriously. Just have faith in me, okay?"
I took a loave of bread and held it to her.
"I'm going to fight to change the world for the better. And I want you to be there when I do." I continued.
"So...you need your strength too. I want you to be by my side today!" I proclaimed.
Her eyes glistened at my declaration and she took the bread from me.
....
You watched Eren eat his breakfast as you ate yours.
"I should probably get ready now..."
You just now noticed Eren was still not in his uniform.
That was your cue to leave.
You nodded and took the tray.
As you began to leave the room...
"Y/n..."
"Hm?"
"I'll see you later."
You gave him a thumbs up as you sneakily made it out of the cellar.
You thought back to Eren's declaration to you.
You had a feeling there was more meaning behind his reason to "fight".
