part 3; chapter nine
The ship opened and you ran out, weapon ready. Already, you and Poe had taken out two stormtroopers, and now you were storming the hangar, firing at all of the soldiers that attempted to fire at you first. Rey turned around and warned the droids. "You three stay there!"
"Happily!" C-3PO said. BB-8 beeped in agreement. You gave him a pained glance. You hated leaving him behind.
"He'll be okay," Poe said, his hand on your arm. "Come on, we gotta get Chewie."
You nodded and pushed your feelings down again. Your feet shuffled forward and you put all of your focus on this. You put all of your focus on Chewie.
"Which way?" Poe asked.
"Uh, no idea," Finn said.
"Follow me!" you exclaimed. You picked up speed and you heard the heavy footsteps of all of them behind you.
But as you got further into the Destroyer, it was time to be quiet. You couldn't afford to throw yourself in a fight for every stormtrooper you'd see, so you led them to hide in crevices in the walls and behind doors until you came across a hall divided in four. You spun around, lowering your blaster. "Um..."
"Halt!" a stormtrooper cried. You bounced back. The blaster was pointed directly at your chest. "Drop your weapons."
Rey took a huge step forward and waved her hand. "It's okay that we're here."
They dropped their weapons. "It's okay that you're here."
"It's good," the other stormtrooper said.
"You're relieved that we're here," she continued waving her hand.
"Thank goodness you're here," the first stormtrooper said.
"Welcome, guys."
Poe mumbled to Finn, "Does she do that to us?"
"We're looking for a prisoner," she said, "and his belongings."
"There," he said. "You'll find the prisoner just that way. Enjoy your time, guys."
You looked at Rey and grinned triumphantly. "That was awesome!"
"I know, right?" she asked, running alongside you in the direction that they pointed. You burst through the doors and ran into another hall. Rey said, "The cameras," and each of you took out a camera that was following your every move. They exploded with a rain of gold sparks.
"They said Chewie's this way," Finn said, taking the lead. He stopped at a set of doors and looked at you for help. While Finn had spent his fair share with the First Order, there was a better chance that you had the right code for each door unlocking. And you did. You stepped up with Poe watching your back and typed in the code. The doors opened with a soft hiss. Finn looked at Rey, who seemed distracted again. "Rey, come on."
"The dagger is on the ship," she said, "we need it."
Poe gave her a look. "Why?"
She turned. "A feeling. I'll meet you back at the hangar."
Finn took a step. "Rey, you can't just---"
Poe stopped him by smacking his chest. He only needed one word to convince him to stay put. "Chewie."
"Come on," you said to them, and to Finn, you reassured him with, "Rey will be okay."
The three of you took off now, staying close together, blasters raised. You only had to go through one more set of doors before you were in the cell. It was a brand new interrogation cell. Chewie was on his knees, chained up. He saw you and growled softly.
"Chewie!" you exclaimed. You rushed over to him, Finn right on your heels. You hugged him close for a brief second while he worked on letting him loose. Chewie exclaimed in shock.
"Of course we came for you, Chewie!" Poe cried.
Chewie grunted. "Yeah, Rey's here. She's gonna get the dagger."
The two helped the Wookie up. You couldn't hide your smile as you saw your friend again, and he looked happy to see you too. Finn looked at you and jerked his chin upward. "You show us the way out."
"Got it," you said.
An alarm was blaring now, loud and constant. You knew they could discover you at any moment. You were on edge, your blaster ready, your staff heavy on your shoulder. But as you moved forward, two stormtroopers slid into view.
"Over here!" a female one cried. As they fired at you, you shot at them. The shot they fired hit the floor right in front of your feet. You ducked against the wall.
"I found them!" a male officer cried. Poe peeked out from behind the wall and shot him.
Finn slid ahead and took off down the hall. Poe kicked the dead stormtrooper's blaster over to Chewie, who growled with approval. You ran ahead of Poe, watching Finn's back. Stormtroopers were on all sides now. Everywhere you looked, there was at least one ready to take your life. Between the four of you, you managed to take every single one of them out without feeling overwhelmed, but more were surely on their way.
"Are we close?" Poe asked.
Together, you and Finn said, "Straight ahead!"
"Blast them!" a stormtrooper yelled behind you. Poe turned around and shot her.
As you ran forward, Poe took three steps ahead of you. He ran ahead and a blast came from his left. It hit him and he fell down with a grunt. Your feet skidded to a stop as horror filled you. "Poe!" you screeched, all of the blood leaving your face. You sprinted to him and dropped your weapon right away. Finn stood over you and guarded as you helped Poe turn over. He groaned and held his left arm, his face contorted in agony. You held him up. "Poe, baby, are you okay?"
"No," he groaned. His brown eyes flashed open as he noticed the sound of stormtroopers. He knew that you were about to be taken into custody. "You need to go."
"No, I'm not leaving you," you said.
"They'll torture you!" he cried.
"They'll do the same to you to find out where I am," you said, raising your voice in anger. "I am not leaving you!"
The stormtroopers approached. Not just four or five, but ten, and then another ten. You were completely surrounded. "Drop your weapons! Drop them now!"
Finn dropped his gun and so did Chewie. You used your boot to push your gun further away from you. Everyone except for Poe raised their hands in surrender.
"Inform the general that ___ is here," a female stormtrooper said. "I know he will be pleased that she's returned."
"I'm not sticking around," you said.
"No, you are," she said. "But this time, you'll be less comfortable here." She shoved your shoulder with her blaster. "Now get up!" You didn't get up fast enough, because suddenly you were being jerked onto your feet. Poe started to protest, but he knew it was pointless. He was dragged to his feet and Finn got up calmly. Handcuffs were slapped on your wrists. A stormtrooper grabbed your arm, grabbed Poe's, grabbed Finn's. And then you were being shuffled forward as they still worked on chaining up Chewie again.
You went through a hallway, through a pair of locked doors, and then you were there. You were standing in the hall as he neared you, with the same flaming orange hair and the same piercing eyes. He stood straight as an arrow, but you saw how hard he swallowed when he saw you.
"Sir," the stormtrooper holding you said, "the scavenger isn't with them."
"Take them away," Pryde said. "Terminate them." His eyes shifted to yours. "You will regret leaving the First Order today, if you haven't regretted it already. I always knew that your boldness would be your downfall. If only your father were here now---"
"Is he dead?" you asked simply.
"He is," he said. "I'm afraid your friends made sure of that one when they sent the ship through ours at lightspeed."
"Well, I'm afraid to say that I don't have much to mourn there," you said. "I wouldn't consider any of you worth mourning."
"No," Pryde said, smiling. "But you will mourn your friends, won't you? When they're executed?" You swallowed hard but didn't let a single emotion show through. "General Hux, I don't care what you choose for her end, but do make sure it isn't a pleasant one. And execute them in front of her. I want her to see every single thing."
"Yes, General Pryde," Hux said obediently. Pryde walked away and then it was just Hux standing in front of you. He took two steps forward. "Right away."
