part 1; chapter seven
Rey gasped loudly as she ran right into the group of four that was coming towards her. She glanced around in disbelief at Finn, Han, and Chewie, who were accompanied by a woman she did not know.
"Are you all right?" Han asked.
"Yeah," Rey breathed.
"Good."
"What happened to you?" Finn asked. "Did he hurt you?"
"Finn, what are you doing here?" she asked.
"We came back for you," he said.
Chewie exclaimed.
"What'd he say?"
Her eyes softened. "That it was your idea."
You watched as she put her arms around Finn's neck. She held him close to her.
"Thank you," she whispered.
You looked away; the moment was too personal, too intimate. You glanced around, deciding to keep guard instead.
"How did you get away?" Finn asked.
"I can't explain it," she said. "And you wouldn't believe it."
"Escape now, hug later," Han said.
Together, the group of now five hurried through the rest of Starkiller Base. Han trailed behind you all to make sure you all got where you needed to go.

Outside was a smoke-filled war zone. The sky was grey and darkening, both from the fill of black smoke from the ships that had been shot down and from the sun draining. It was getting darker and darker everytime Poe blinked.
"I got on on me! You see it?"
"Yeah, I'm on it. Burillo's been hit!"
"Watch out for ground fire."

You couldn't believe what you were seeing outside. X-WINGS were being taken down by TIE Fighters. You watched in horror as you saw lives lost; and felt them at the same time.
"They're in trouble," Han said. "We can't leave."
Poe. You turned around and looked at Han. Desperately, you asked, "What can we do?"
"My friend's got a bag full of explosives," he said. "Let's use them."

"General, are you seeing this?"
Leia turned, eyebrows knit together as she glanced at the screen.
"Two more X-WINGS down. That's half our fleet destroyed.
"And the weapon will be fully charged in ten minutes!" C-3PO exclaimed. "It would take a miracle to save us now."

You went right back inside with Han and Chewie, firing weapons at the stormtroopers who passed by you, not pausing to give them a chance to fire first.
Meanwhile, Rey and Finn worked on opening the doors and working commands for you to navigate the base. Everything was on lockdown; they were aware of the scavenger girl escaping and of their shields being taken down, but they somehow weren't aware that you were on board, killing them all from the inside-out.
"Girl knows her stuff," Han praised as the door opened.
"C'mon, this way," you said, taking the lead. You brought them to a bridge and then turned around. "This a good place to blow up?"
"It's perfect." He grinned. "We'll set the charges against every other column."
Chewie growled.
"You're right," he said. "That's a better idea. You take the top. I'll go down below. Detonator---" He handed it to Chewie. "We'll meet right back here."
"What do you want me to do?" you asked.
"I want you to cover me," he said. "C'mon."
You nodded and followed him at his heels, blaster at the ready.
As Han ran around, planting the bombs, you watched his back. You had a feeling growing inside of you; a feeling that you could not quite explain. You were starting to feel antsy.
Stormtroopers ran by, and you quickly aimed --- but they did not see you.
"Han," you whispered.
But someone had walked in, and he wasn't paying attention to the bombs anymore. He was looking somewhere else.
"Han!"
He waved you by, dismissively, and you watched him walk over to the bridge, where you saw Kylo Ren walking by.
"Ben!" he shouted.
A stormtrooper aimed its blaster at Han. You shot him in the head.
Kylo Ren turned. "Han Solo. I've been waiting for this day for a long time."
He approached him slowly, his blaster down. A door opened, and you saw Rey and Finn step in. Behind them, you noticed that the sun was almost completely gone.
"Take off that mask. You don't need it."
"What do you think you'll see if I do?" he asked.
"The face of my son," Han said.
Your eyes widened in shock. You watched as he removed his helmet. You'd only seen your old Commander without his helmet once; but now as you looked at Kylo and Han, side by side, you could see the resemblance that you would not have noticed previously.
"Your son is gone. He was weak and foolish like his father, so I destroyed him."
"That's what Snoke wants you to believe, but it's not true. My son is alive."
"No. The Supreme Leader is wise."
Han kept walking closer to him. "Snoke is using you for your power. When he gets what he wants, he'll crush you."
Kylo stepped back.
"You know it's true," Han said.
"It's too late," he said.
"No, it's not," Han said. "Leave here with me. Come home. We miss you."
You saw something cross Kylo Ren's face. Weakness. This was the most human he had ever been.
"I'm being torn apart," he said. "I want to be free of this pain. I know what I have to do but I don't know if I have the strength to do it. Will you help me?"
"Yes, anything," he said eagerly.
Kylo dropped his helmet with a thud. He took out his lightsaber and held it in front of him and his father, cradling it in both hands.
He held it out to him.
Han touched it.
The sun vanished.
Kylo ignited it and turned it on his father, impaling him through his chest. You jumped back in shock and gasped. Chewbacca's roar of anguish echoed through your head as Han's body jerked on the weapon, twitching. His hand cupped the face of his son's before he slipped off of the blade and fell into the abyss far, far below.
"No!" you screamed at the same time Rey did. You heard her cries somewhere far above you.
You took out your blaster and ran forward, shooting at Kylo. He caught your blaster shot midair and threw it to the side. As he did this, Chewbacca fired at him, catching him in the side.
You took this moment of distraction to run forward. You thrust your blaster up at his face, catching him in the jaw. He recoiled and grabbed your arm as you kicked forward, kneeing him in the stomach. He grunted in pain.
"Traitor," he hissed, spit flying past his lips.
"Yes," you said, "I am."
You ripped your arm from his grip and he ignited his lightsaber again, swinging it at you. You jumped backwards and fired your shots, but they bounced off of the weapon. He spun it and approached you slowly.
You backed up, firing again and again and again, but every time, he hit the shot. He took three huge steps towards you and grabbed the front of Poe's jacket, lifting you up so that you only stood on the toes of your boots.
"What do you expect to accomplish?" he asked. "You know you cannot win this fight against me."
"Right now, my friends are escaping through the woods," you whispered, eyes on his. "They'll find the Falcon, they'll board it, and they'll go home. And you will die along with this weapon. Along with me!"
You shot right next to his head, stunning him. He fell backwards and you turned and ran, only to be stopped with a blaster shot to your arm. You cried out and fell on your stomach.
Lying on the bridge, you only felt the stinging of your singed skin.
Kylo picked you up by the back of your jacket, forcing you on your knees. At the same time, Chewbacca released the bombs. The wall exploded in balls of orange flames which reflected in Kylo's eyes.
"You'll die here," he said, "And no one will ever know your name. What you've done here won't be remembered. Not by me, not by your friends, not by that pilot that you saved. You'll lay at the bottom of this with the body of Han Solo and die!"
As he finished his sentence, you were thrown off of the bridge. You screamed as you fell through the air, your body swirling through the smoke and flashing red lights.
Your body collided with a beam. Your hands grabbed it automatically and your breath was knocked out of you. Your head flung back, jaw slacked, and your legs dangled.
But you were somehow, albeit barely, still alive.
Crying out, you forced yourself to pull your body up. You wrapped your arms around the beam and then folded your ankles together to lock around it. Swallowing a mixture of blood and saliva (you must have hit your chin in your fall) you started to inch forward, moving at a slow pace.
You didn't have much time to climb back up to the surface and escape. You'd have to act fast, and you knew it.
Somewhere, far up above you, you heard the loud cry of Chewie. You looked up and let out a sob of relief. "Chewie?"
He answered you.
"I'm --- I'm all right," you shouted. "I'm down here. I'm... I'm hurt pretty bad but I'm trying to climb up."
He roared again.
You cried out, "I'm --- I'm coming!"
You got to the end of the beam and to the wall. You glanced up at it. You didn't fall down as far as you thought you had.
Your fingers hooked into the crevices between slabs of metal and the indents in the wall. Your boots wedged themselves in the spaces they fit in, and you climbed and climbed. The pain in your ribs was excruciating, the pounding in your head was immense, your arm never stopped burning, the smell of your singed skin filled your nose, and the climb seemed to take hours and hours.
You didn't even know when you'd reached the top, because your eyes were screwed shut so tight to block out the blinding white pain that was shaking your entire body.
But you felt Chewbacca grab you and pull you up, and you collapsed against him, sobbing into his soft fur. He helped you to your feet and made a sound.
"Chewie, I am so sorry---"
He dismissed you with a sound. You wished you could understand him. You only cried harder.
He was moving you slowly towards the exit, and you could guess that he was telling you to move fast. You had to go; you were out of time.
"Let's go," you breathed. "We gotta get to the Falcon."
