The Written Entrance Exam
When Dad said he'd put my name on UA's list because I shall proof myself...., I didn't think he meant he'd put my name at the very top. The look on the receptionist's face when I walked in—like she'd just seen a ghost wearing Gucci—told me that much, not as if I was expecting anything else from a low class hero like her. But now, sitting in this exam room, with a test paper in front of me that looked more like a collection of riddles from a mad scientist, I started to wonder if maybe, just maybe, Dad had overdone it.... or if this was really a hero school instead of a villain school.
Alright, Izuku.
You've got this.
You've studied every subject, hacked into more databases than you can count, and mastered the art of internet rabbit holes.
You're smart.
Remember that.
Even if this test is designed by sadists.
The first question stared back at me with all the subtlety of a villain's monologue. I wasn't sure if I should laugh or cry.
Question 1: A hero with a mass of 80 kg is traveling at a velocity of 100 m/s. A villain with the ability to create frictionless surfaces appears, and the hero begins to slide uncontrollably. How many seconds will it take for the hero to come to a complete stop if a wind with a resistance coefficient of 0.5 N/m² begins blowing against him from the opposite direction?
Okay, that's... a lot of math.
Let's break this down.
Velocity, mass, wind resistance... sounds simple enough.
I scribbled some calculations, grateful for all the physics I'd crammed into my brain last month. But I couldn't shake the feeling that this was more than just physics. It was like they wanted to see how fast we could think under pressure. And how fast I could write, apparently, because the clock was ticking.
Question 2: Consider a situation where a hero's quirk allows them to create a magnetic field with a strength of 10 Tesla. They are fighting a villain who has a quirk that generates an electric current of 5000 Amperes within any conductive material. Calculate the force exerted on a metal object (10 kg) located 3 meters away from the hero.
Great, now we're dealing with electromagnetism.
Why not throw in some quantum mechanics while we're at it?
I furiously jotted down the formulas, feeling a little like a mad scientist myself. This was actually kind of fun, in a "my brain is melting" sort of way. Still, I couldn't shake the nagging feeling that these questions were designed to trip us up, to see who would crack first.
Question 3: A hero with a quirk that allows them to alter the flow of time by 10% in either direction decides to slow time down to gain an advantage in a battle. If the hero experiences one second, how many seconds pass in the real world?
Wait... time dilation?
Seriously?
I had to admit, this one was clever. Not just because of the math involved, but because it played with concepts that weren't exactly... normal. But then again, this was UA. Normal was overrated.
Okay, Izuku, remember Einstein.
Remember how you hacked into that physics database of the Nasa just to read about time dilation for fun.
You've got this.
I wrote down the answer, trying to ignore the sweat starting to form on my forehead. This test wasn't just about intelligence; it was about endurance, too. I could feel the eyes of the proctors on us, watching, waiting to see who would falter first.
Question 4: A villain creates a space where the laws of physics no longer apply in the traditional sense. The hero is now in a world where the speed of light is only 1 m/s. If the hero emits a beam of light at this speed, calculate the time it takes for the light to travel 10 meters. Also, explain how this alteration affects the hero's perception of time.
You've got to be kidding me.
This isn't even science anymore.
This is... surreal.
My head was spinning. They weren't just testing our knowledge—they were testing our ability to think outside the box, to apply what we knew in ways that didn't even seem possible. And as crazy as it was, I could see the logic in it. UA was looking for future heroes who could handle the unexpected, who could face the impossible and still find a way to win.
It was either that or the rat went insane.
Who knows.
I might be insane as well.
I scribbled my answer, feeling both exhilarated and exhausted. But I couldn't let that show. If I was going to make it through this, I needed to keep my cool. No one here knew who I really was, and I intended to keep it that way. All they needed to know was that I was just another applicant, albeit a very determined one.
Question 5: A hero has the ability to convert kinetic energy directly into electrical energy at a conversion rate of 90%. During a fight, the hero absorbs the impact of a 500 kg villain moving at 50 m/s. How much electrical energy does the hero generate?
Kinetic to electrical... this is right up my alley.
This was almost too easy. I ran the numbers quickly, the familiar equations coming to mind like old friends. But even as I wrote down the answer, I knew better than to get cocky. UA wasn't going to let us off that easy. The hardest questions were probably still to come.
Question 6: In a universe where the laws of thermodynamics are reversed, a hero attempts to create energy from nothing. Describe the possible consequences on the surrounding environment and calculate the theoretical maximum amount of energy that could be generated if the hero has access to an infinite supply of resources.
Thermodynamics... reversed?
I think my brain just reversed.
It's gonna be mush at the end of all this....
This was beyond complicated—it was absurd. But then again, so were a lot of things in this world. If I was going to be a hero, I'd have to deal with the absurd on a daily basis. Might as well start now.
I took a deep breath and dove in, the clock ticking down as I worked through the problem. The answers were in there somewhere, buried beneath layers of theory and logic. I just had to dig them out.
When the exam finally ended, I leaned back in my chair, feeling like I'd just run a marathon. My hand ached from writing, my brain was fried, but I was still standing. Well, sitting, technically, but the point was, I'd made it through.
If this is just the written exam, I can't wait to see what the practical exam is like.
