Things did not make any sense.

How did both Chastity and Lust get erased? The agreement they made was so that only one of them would be gone in case anything happened. Yet, first Lust was erased and then Jieun because of the new Lust. It was unfair and it was also suspicious that the guy she was entangled with became the new Lust.

Someone bumped into me while I was walking deep in thought and was quick to apologize. I turned around to find the new Lust as if he was reading my thoughts.

"Ah," Jungkook said, eyes widening, recognizing me.

Before he walked past me, I asked, "Do you regret meeting Eunsook?"

He paused and looked at me with an intense gaze that was more than enough to intimidate me. "Don't talk about her like that."

I gulped. I had to get my answer. "But if you didn't, you two might still be alive."

He looked away and walked past me. "This was the only way."

His words replayed in my mind as I finally grasped their situation. I teleported to Heaven and sought out God to confirm my deductions.

"If you get the answer, what will you do about it?"

I paused. "I... I just wanted to know if the person I cared about is still alive. Even if it means she might go through another life of hardships."

He smiled. "I believe you already have your answers."

I knew it. Instead of being erased, Lust and Jieun were reborn. The new Lust had sacrificed himself to save her which meant it was the only way. That had affected the agreement.

But why hide this truth from everyone?

If we were able to be reborn, the Deadly Sins would have a chance to escape hell.

Ah... then the Virtues would be the sacrifice.

After Jieun, Seoyun made an agreement. She made it purely for Envy, not caring about what happened to herself. But in the end, the results were different this time. Envy was able to be reborn and Seoyun was still with us. It was like a miracle. If they tried to hide how agreements helped us, this time was known to everyone.

But after Greed and then Saejin disappeared without anyone knowing, agreements were made forbidden among Virtues and Sins. Even if they did not explain anything about their sudden disappearance, I could make out what actually went down.

They were reborn as well.

Hyunwoo only informed us that they disappeared because of their forbidden relationship. But Saejin and Greed did not make an agreement with everyone knowing. It must had been secret. Perhaps it was the only way to escape the punishment of forbidden relationship.

Or this was how I comforted myself that Saejin was still existing among us.

In any case, agreements were no more, and I believed it was the only way to save ourselves for some of us. Because after that, we lost Anhye. Unlike the others, I was sure she was not reborn. There was no way that she could have been reborn after agreements were banned. It was a hard blow to everyone.

"Doesn't it feel emptier than before?" I whispered.

Humility and Diligence glanced at me before looking at each other as we sat around the table in the Virtues' meeting room. Just the three of us were remaining from all seven. Loss was never something I was used to. It felt like I could see any of the other girls' faces if I just teleport to their homes in Heaven, but even their places were gone. Swept away until nothing was left.

"Report to me if anything happens. You two know that, right?" Hyunwoo said. Jaesung and I nodded.

Was this how the previous Humility felt? The other Virtues leaving one by one until she was alone.

I still did not know what happened to her.

If I did, maybe the situation would have been better.

What if I can meet them on earth...?

"Have you heard about Wrath and Patience?" Jin asked, a little more somber and quiet than usual. "She committed crimes after he was erased for murdering people."

I did not need a reminder. But I did not snap back at him. I knew we were all shaken from what happened.

"You won't do something like that if I do the same, right?" He smiled with a tinge of sadness.

I frowned. "Are you crazy? Of course not, don't even dream about it."

He chuckled. "Good."

There was little to no chance he would do the same after knowing how Wrath and Anhye were punished. Unless he was crazy which I doubted. Chaotic? Yes. But not suicidal.

A nudge at my side made my head turn to him. He was holding a strawberry.

I was bewildered. "What?"

"Eat."

"That's so random," I mumbled but took it and bit on it. The taste was dull, almost non-existent, but I could make out the distinctness at the tip of my tongue.

"Food is one of the rewards of life," he said and inhaled deeply.

Too bad we could not indulge in that reward now.

"My face is another one."

I pushed his shoulder. "Get out."
