"This is bullshit!"
Everyone else had gone to bed by then. It was just the last of the original Avengers, the Avengers namesake, and the two teenagers. Tony sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I wish there was another option-"
"There is another option!" Bianca interjected. Peter hadn't seen her this angry since the day they broke up. Her eyes were narrowed, her tone razor-sharp, her face flushed. Her hands hung at her sides, balled into tight fists. She looked slightly less intimidating in the too-big clothes Wanda had lent her, but Peter still took a step back. He knew better than to get in her way when she was pissed.
"She's my mother," Bianca continued. He could spot tears forming in her eyes. "She needs to know that I'm okay!"
Natasha moved towards Bianca as if approaching a wild animal. "Bianca, please. I agree that your mom deserves to know the truth, but it's late, and we're all extremely tired. Why don't we get some sleep and reconvene in the morning?"
"Fuck that!" Bianca swore, darting backward. "I'm not going to let my mom go to bed tonight thinking I'm dead."
"The world needs to think that you're dead," Bruce argued. "Unfortunately, that includes your mom."
"No!" Bianca ran to her bag. "No. Letting my friends think I'm dead, that's one thing, but my mom? I'm all she has. I can't let her think she's alone." She pulled her phone from her bag and unlocked it.
Bruce and Tony stepped forward to stop her as she typed furiously, but Peter flung his arm out in front of them, signaling for them to stop. "Don't. There's no stopping Bianca when she has her mind set on something." Bianca spared him a quick smile (his heart felt like it was about to burst) and hit send on her message.
"What did you say?" Carol asked. She was sitting on the couch Bianca had once occupied. She hadn't made any attempt to stop Bianca from contacting her mom. She and Peter had been the most vocal supporters of letting Bianca's mom in on the whole situation.
"'Hello Mrs. Sinclair. This is Tony Stark. I would like to discuss the details of Bianca's situation with you. Please come to the Avengers facility at 8:30 am. Don't worry. Everything will be alright,'" Bianca read out loud. "And then I included the purple heart emoji so she would know it was me. It's this thing we came up with. Whenever I was away on tour or something, I'd text her a purple heart at the end of the night to let her know I was okay."
Bruce raised his eyebrows. "You texted her in code?"
"Yeah, I'm not a fucking idiot," Bianca shot back. Carol chuckled as she got up from the couch. She came to a stop by Bianca's side and wrapped her arm around the shorter girl's shoulders.
Carol squeezed Bianca gently. "Come on, kid. You can stay with me in my room or in Clint's old room if you want to be alone."
"Clint's old room?" Bianca echoed.
Natasha nodded. "He officially retired last week."
Bianca's jaw dropped. "Really? I just figured he wasn't at the party because he was on his farm or whatever." Moments later, her shock resided and it became clear how exhausted she was. Her shoulders sagged as if they were carrying the weight of the world. "I don't want to be alone tonight."
"Alright then," Tony sighed. "Let's all get some sleep, shall we?"
"Wait." Bianca rubbed her face. "Do we know why HYDRA tried to kidnap me?"
"No clue," Natasha replied. "Goodnight."

"So, when can she stop being dead?"
Well, that was certainly a question Bianca never expected to hear in her lifetime.
It was 9:00 am on January 1st. Bianca had officially been dead for seven hours and forty-five minutes now. About twenty-eight minutes ago, Momma Valerie Sinclair had arrived at the Avengers Compound. Nine minutes after that, she and Bianca were reunited. It was an emotional reunion, full of lots of hugging and crying, and some swearing on her mom's part.
Now they were sitting in a conference room, discussing strategy.
"First, we need to figure out why HYDRA wanted Bianca," Tony said. "Could this have something to do with her father?" Valerie's expression darkened. Bianca's dad, Leo Suarez, had never really been a part of her life. Leo had dumped Valerie after she told him she was pregnant with Bianca and that was the last time she ever saw him. When Bianca was growing up, he would send birthday cards with small sums of cash every year until her 13th birthday, upon which all communication from him ceased. Bianca and Valerie concluded he either got a new family or he died. Either way, they didn't really care.
"If this has anything to do with Leo, I'll kill him," Valerie growled, "but I don't see how it could. Leo's an idiot and a piece of shit, but he's not stupid enough to get involved with an organization like HYDRA."
Carol was sitting on the counter beside the coffee pot. "And you're sure Leo's human?"
"Yes!" Valerie answered quickly. Seconds later, her face fell and her body wilted. "I think. I don't know, actually. But I mean, Bianca's had her DNA tested, they never mentioned anything alien."
"Why did you get Bianca's DNA tested?" Tony asked. His elbows were on the glass table and his fingers were steepled. He looked at Bianca like she was a complicated math problem. Another girl might've been intimidated. Not Bianca.
Unfazed, she flipped her hair over her shoulder. "Our family doesn't have a great track record healthwise. Mom wanted to make sure I didn't inherit anything. The doctors said I was fine, right?"
"Yes, they said you were perfectly healthy, no signs of any hereditary diseases," Valerie confirmed, nodding. "Definitely no mentions of alien DNA."
"If she's inhuman, her DNA wouldn't have presented as alien until she went through terrigenesis," Bruce chipped in. Natasha, Sam, and Bucky were also in the room.
Sam cleared his throat. "Okay, yeah, but how would HYDRA know she was inhuman unless her dad was too? Is he registered in the inhuman database?"
"Nope, no Leo Suarez," Natasha said. When the others looked at her strangely, she shrugged. "I couldn't sleep last night. Did some digging. Suarez isn't any of our databases, meaning if he is an inhuman, he probably hasn't gone through terrigenesis yet."
"Or he's dead," Bucky pointed out.
Natasha shook her head. "No, he's still alive. His last known address is in Arizona. An old SHIELD friend is checking him out now, but his credit card was active as of last night, so I'm betting he's fine. Which then brings up the question--"
"Why go for Bianca and not her dad?" Bucky finished.
"Could this be because of Bianca's status?" Carol questioned. "I mean, she has a pretty significant fanbase that spans the globe. She's a household name. No one's ever had a problem with her. Could HYDRA have targeted her for that reason? You know, sort of lower moral or whatever."
Tony sighed. "No, I don't think so. I mean, have you seen the news? She's already become a martyr. I don't think HYDRA would do that, give the people a reason to unite and stand against them."
"Daisy's on her way now," Natasha said. "She and her team have dealt with HYDRA a lot since SHIELD fell. They might know something."
Bianca raised her hand like they were in class. "Couldn't we just use me as bait? I mean, we know HYDRA wants me, and they're willing to kill to get me. So if they were to find out I was alive and well, they'd come for me, right? So why don't we set up a trap from them?"
"No," Tony snapped. "It's too dangerous."
"You and other civilians could get hurt," Carol added. "We don't want any more casualties. Unless they're HYDRA."
"Well, I'd like to stop being dead sometime soon," Bianca stated. "I mean, at the very least, I'd like to tell my friends I'm alive. The only thing I hate more than lying to my fans is lying to my friends. It makes me sick to think that they're mourning me right now."
Bruce sighed. "Bianca, we understand this is hard, but we need to keep you being alive a secret."
"Peter's friends know I'm alive, why can't my friends?" she argued back. "Sadie, Anna, and Harry have been keeping my secrets for years. I think they can handle another one."
The room was silent for a moment as the Avengers exchanged looks, holding a conversation with their eyes. Then, Carol shrugged. "She makes a good point. If Peter's friends know, hers should too."
"And my grandparents," Bianca added. "I'd like to tell Isobel and my team as well, but I recognize that's probably not an option."
Tony rubbed his face tiredly. "You know what? Fuck it. You can tell your best friends and your grandparents. But that's it until we figure out what HYDRA wants with you."
Bianca cheered and high-fived Valerie.
Maybe she could make being dead work.
