Distance.
It had been quite the while. His fingers gripped the suitcase handle in nervousness. It had been 3 years since life decided to slam the _Long distance_ stamp on their relationship.
'Look in the camera.' the man holding the key of entry to his state said, grasping his consciousness by the collar and pulling it back into the real world.
Stamp. Stamp.
'Thank you.' he mouthed the words as his voice had been cut off. He could see the warm rain pouring outside, through the glass and the cold conditioned air inside. The passport shivered in his hand as excitement rushed through his body detonating his adrenaline tank. He didn't know whether he wanted to run or keep his cool. Stuck in the crossfire of thoughts, he went down the escalator taking deep breaths and trying not to smile like an idiot in public.
Skipping baggage claim since he didn't have any, he headed to the exit after that one last security check. His eyes tried to look down, but his mind and heart kept looking for her. He walked towards the last security who seemed to be half asleep and stepped foot in his state. The sound of the rain simply pumped his blood into his face making him sweat in the humidity.
He took irregular steps as his knucles were white from gripping the suitcase. There weren't many people around to receive his fellow passengers from the Arrivals terminal of the airport.
He walked on under the roof till he reached the end leading out to the road. He looked left. He looked right. He looked back as she stood by the pillar.
And there she was. His love and his life that he'd held onto dearly for three years. He froze and she stood there awkwardly for about three minutes.
Finally she took a step towards him.
The next thing he knew she was inside his coat with her arms around his chest. Her scent pushed him into the pit of nostalgia. The ice that surrounded his heart was thawed by her warmth. His arms around her head as his suitcase lay toppled on the road. He held on to his passport.
Her grip around him tightened as he stuggled to breathe. His cold hands melted when his fingers held her face to kiss her forehead. Her tiny forehead. He placed his lips on to her head as she closed her eyes for that brief moment. She smiled at him and giggled the way she did when they had their first kiss. She bent halfway to pickup the suitcase but he picked it up before her.
A few moments later they walked to hail a cab as she clung onto him from his side. His left hand shivering in happiness as his right was over her shoulder. The cab stopped in front of them as they the drizzle patted their heads. She got into the cab and moved into the end of the back seat, leaving the door open. He placed his suitcase in the trunk and slid onto the seat beside her. She moved to the middle and laid on his shoulder.
"Where to sir?" The cabbie asked as she held out the hotel reservations to him.
The cab pulled out of the airport.
