Chapter 23
I was drying my hair with an extra towel I had found in one of the cabinets, when I left the bathroom and was walking towards the bed when I heard a noise coming from the kitchen. With a confused look on my face, I started walking towards the kitchen.
I had just turned the corner, entering the kitchen when I smelt the best smell in my life, chocolate, and blueberry pancakes. I don't know how I knew that but I did.
I didn't even pay attention to anything else in the kitchen but the pancakes that were on the kitchen counter. I made my way to them and once I reached them I stuffed my face with one. I did not even bother to look at the person that was standing beside me cooking more pancakes on the stove.
I was too busy stuffing my face that when I heard the deep laugh that came from right next to me I dropped the pancake I was eating. I twisted around to look at the person who was laughing. I stared at the man for a moment in awe.
Ace was in the kitchen beside me laughing his ass off while watching me stuff my face with the pancakes he cooked. Tapping my foot, I waited for him to finish his laughing fit, but he didn't stop laughing so I coughed. At the sound of my cough, Ace finally stopped laughing and stared at me.
With a bored look, I asked, "Why am I here?"
Ace turned away from me before answering, "I found you in the forest."
I leaned against the counter, "...and how does that lead to me in your bedroom."
Ace turned back to me with a weird emotion in his eyes, "He did a number on you didn't he?"
I crossed my arms, "You didn't answer my question?"
We both knew he was talking about Ryan. But the thing was I didn't want to talk about him, and I knew Ace didn't want to answer my question from before.
Ace sighed, "And you didn't answer my question from before."
I laughed causing a shocked look to appear on Ace's face. My laugh wasn't a laugh of joy or because of something funny. It was a laugh meant to mock him.
I stopped laughing and gave him an are-you-serious look, "Now tell me why I have to answer you. Why do I have to tell you anything, after all, you did to me?"
Ace looked down but not before I caught a glimpse of regret in his eyes. But like everything else in life, I didn't care. If he felt regret, it was because of his own actions.
Still, with his eyes downcast, he said, "I heard everything."
I leaned forward confused, "You heard what?"
Ace met my eyes, "I heard what you and Ryan were talking about in the forest."
With a bitter smile, I replied, "Now tell me what you think you heard?"
Ace didn't back down from the challenge in my voice, instead, he picked his head back up. He walked to me, stopping only when he was right in front of me.
He put his hand on my cheek, "I heard how much you both love each other."
I smiled a teary smile at him while smacking his hand away. I turned away willing the emotions in my eyes to go away. Once I was sure I had contained the emotions inside me, I put back up the blank wall in my eyes again, not allowing any emotion to peek out.
I said, "Yeah your right I do love him."
Pausing to turn around I continued looking him straight in his eyes, "...But who doesn't love their alpha and their friend."
I looked into Ace's eyes trying to see if he bought my lies. I was convinced he did until I heard what he said next.
"I know what I heard. It was two people in love with one another."
Ace walked towards me causing me to take a step back. Back and forth we went him one step closer and me one step further. Like a game of cat and mouse. Like the mouse, I was trapped when I felt the wall hit my back, but unlike the mouse, I wasn't afraid. So I leaned back against the wall and smirked at Ace.
"Is that all you got?" I questioned curiously, "Because if that's it..."
I pushed against Ace's chest and he fell back a step, "It is quite cliché."
I shoved a finger into his chest, "Unlike a weak girl who allows herself to be trapped, I'm not weak and I will fight you."
The corner of Ace's mouth twitched up for a second but within a fraction of a second, his face turned back to stone. It made me doubt that I had almost seen him smile.
Ace turned away from me and began to walk out of the room. I didn't move not knowing what to do now. Did he want me to follow him? Or did he want me to stay here?
But before I made up my mind on what to do, I heard Ace's voice from the other room.
"Come on Kathryn, we have a lot to talk about."
