CHAPTER THREE
***
"Daddy?"
Jungkook softly lifted his head, eyes landing on his son who was cuddled up in his lap while biting his fingers. "Is this hell? Because it is so dark."
"No, oh no no it's not hell", Jungkook breathed out quickly, heart clenching a little when he saw his baby's eyes sparkling in confusion. "But we haven't gone outside to see the sun in two days!", the kid let out, clapping his hands onto his mouth as if he was gasping in shock.
"I'm so sorry", Jungkook hummed quietly, nuzzling his head into the kid's hair.
"No it's okay. Adventure-time, I always wanted to go to hell!!!", Taejeon squeaked out happily, now getting up and walking away from his father, eyes glaring around while he tried to make out the way in the dark. The only lights were up in his small corner where he had his toys which Taehyung brought him.
But where Jungkook was placed there was nothing, not even a small candle or anything.
The boy didn't even know which day it was or what the time of the day was. Was it night? Or day? Did Jungkook even sleep since he got here? Honestly, he had no clue. Everything just got blurry in his mind, memories fading into one another.
The only one who didn't seem worried at all was the small boy who ran around the dark with his eyes glowing in excitement. If only he would know that they were in danger and that there was criminal upstairs who would not hesitate to kill them if they'd refuse his orders.
Yet Jungkook had enough already.
The boy got up and walked upstairs until he stood in front of the locked door. He knocked on it loudly, well knowing that Taehyung told him not to make any noises as long as he wasn't with them. Kook couldn't care less. "Yo, asshole, open up that door", he yelled and slammed his fists against the wooden door all over again.
It took Taehyung not even a full minute until he ripped the door open, eyeing Jungkook full of anger. "What did I tell you about being loud?!", he groaned and pushed Jungkook backwards, making him stumble and almost falling downstairs.
Luckily he could grab on the older's arm which gave him in some way stability.
"Fuck, what are you doing", Taehyung hissed and then walked downstairs, dragging Jungkook along. "I'm a fucking criminal, you can't just break my rules! I don't exactly want to kill you man-"
"Then don't", Jungkook sighed.
"Mhm. What is it? Why did wake me up in the middle of the night?", Taehyung lifted one eyebrow which looked oddly handsome. The boy gasped a little, gulping down his dry throat. "Uhm-, my son would like to see the sun. Can we go for a walk in the morning?"
The older simply started laughing.
"Oh sure, how about I make all your wishes come true??", Taehyung snapped, slapping Jungkook's cheek harshly. "You need to learn some respect my dear."
"And you need to learn how to treat a human being properly. He's a kid, he needs the sun and social interaction for fuck's sake! Just because you're some anti-social idiot doesn't mean my son has to be!", Kook grumbled, "Don't you dare ruin his life just because you couldn't kill us when you had to."
Taehyung let out a sigh, "Fine, give me the boy. I'll take him outside tomorrow."
"I'm coming with you", Jungkook said sharply. "That's my kid."
"Fine, then rot in here", Taehyung shrugged, turned around and was about to walk upstairs if Jungkook wouldn't grasp on his elbow and pull him back around. "I don't even know your name, what makes you think I'd give you my son?"
"Nothing", Taehyung smiled. "You can't trust me and you don't know if I'll take him out or if I'll rip his little head off and feed it to you for dinner." He ruffled Jungkook's hair and winked teasingly.
"All you can do is sit here and hope", he whispered and then clapped his hands. "Yo, kiddo? You wanna have some chocolate cake? I made some this evening and I can't eat all of it alone!"
Taejeon came running and screaming. "YES YES FUCK YES"
"Taejeon stop saying fuck, it's a bad word", Jungkook sighed but the little boy had already forgotten about his father's existence because right now, chocolate cake was all that matters.
Taehyung gave Jungkook a grin, "Oh look who wants to come with me", he hummed and kneeled down, opening up his arms for the kid. "Let's get some cake, shall we?"
"Without Dad?", Taejeon tilted his big head in confusion.
"He doesn't want cake", Taehyung assured the kid and then got back up, carrying him upstairs. He locked the door carefully and Jungkook was left alone in the dark.
His kid upstairs with a stranger who promised him some cake and made him go along. He still was naive and he believed bad people too easily. But what choice did Jungkook have? If he had to spend years down here in this weird guy's basement, then his kid should at least get to live a life worth living.
Kook sat back down on the floor, arms wrapping around his knees which he had pulled close to his chest. Not much later tears were rolling down his cheeks, big tears that were nothing but coming from pure desperation. What was he supposed to do? How did he get in such a position? Didn't he always try to do his best? Fuck, he even applied for class president when he was a senior and read all books for history class-, how on earth did he end up here?
Much worse though was the thought of not knowing what his Taejeonie was doing. Was he alright? Would this guy treat him well? Or would he kill him first?
What if he'd gave him away?
*
"Hi", Taejeon said when he sat at the small dinner table not much later, Taehyung by his side. He gave him chocolate cake for real. Of course he did, he would never do any harm to a child. But Jungkook luckily didn't knew him that well.
"Hey", Taehyung chuckled and then fed the kid another fork full of cake. "What's up?"
"What's your name?", Taejeon tilted his head. "You never told us!"
"I can't tell you, my dear", Taehyung said softly, "You'd tell your Dad and he can't find out."
"Why not?? Is it again a game you play?? Are you two best friends?", Taejeon asked excited, curious to find out what it was about this guy and his Dad. They seemed as if they hated each other but then again they played games together? Weird.
"We're not exactly friends", Taehyung explained softly.
"Oh sad. Dad don't has friends. You can be first", Taejeon said in his broken English. "He really likes friends."
"Why doesn't he have friends?", Taehyung asked slowly, a little surprised by that. He imagined Jungkook to be one of those popular guys with tons of girls and boys running after him nonstop. That had also been one of his worries, what if one of his friends would come looking for him?
Good for Taehyung that the younger seemed not to have any.
"He spends all the time with Taejeon", the kid explained, "Because I'm his favorite friend."
"Cute", Taehyung chuckled. "I'll tell you a secret, okay?"
"Yes."
"I don't have any friends either", Taehyung laughed out weakly. What he called friends were actually people he was forced to hang with. Namjoon, Jimin and Lyza weren't exactly what he'd call friends.
"Oh I can be your friend too", Taejeon explained proudly. "Taejeon has many friends. I make friends with all the people and animals. One time I also made friends with a stone. His name was Bang PD."
"A stone? You really make friends with everyone, huh?", Taehyung grinned, ruffling the kid's hair. "I would love to be your friend!"
"Okay but you have to tell me your name then", Taejeon said.
"Mhm fine", Taehyung let out a sigh, "My name is Taehyung but you can call me Tae-"
Taejeon nodded, eyes darting around. "I need to pee."
"Oh, should I show you the toilet?", the older got up immediately and pointed across the floor where the bathroom was right next to the front door. "Can you go alone already? Or do you need help?"
"I can alone", Taejeon nodded, hopped down from the chair and walked slowly in the direction of the bathroom. Taehyung got up as well in the meantime and grabbed their plates to bring them to the kitchen to wash up quickly.
Taejeon giggled and rushed over to the front door where he saw a bunch of keys hanging down next to it. The kid glanced around, saw Taehyung still being busy so he quickly jumped and grabbed the keys as quietly as he could and then pushed them underneath his big hoodie.
"Stupid boy", he hummed to himself, rolled his eyes and walked into the bathroom where he didn't even go to the toilet but he sat down and counted the keys.
There were so many, hopefully Dad would find out which one was the right one.
Took him a few more tries until he had all of them hidden underneath his shirt without making any noises while walking. He got up from the floor and washed his hands as if he really would have gone to the toilet. Then he waddled out of the room and headed to the stairs which lead to the basement.
"Where are you going?", Taehyung asked a bit surprised.
"To Dad", the kid explained. "Good night Taehyung, we can play tomorrow again."
Taehyung couldn't even react before the kid reached the door. Until he realized that he fucked up.
He had the keys. And he also had Taehyung's eyes pointed onto him.
"Wait I'll get the keys", Taehyung hummed quickly and rushed over to the door. Just to not find the keys.
"Weird, I could have sworn I put them there", Taehyung hummed. "Well, anyways. I have a separate bunch of keys, wait I'll go get it."
He wasn't even thinking of Taejeon having the keys.
"Wow", Taejeon whispered to himself, heart beating up to his chest as he heard Taehyung coming back with another bunch of keys.
He opened up the door and let the kid in, watching after him with an odd look on his face. This kid-
Taejeon rushed downstairs and as soon as the door fell closed he started giggling and jumping into the air, running over to his Dad. "His name is Taehyung", he explained and pulled out the keys. "And here's the keys to all the doors."
With that he sat down on his father's lap and cuddled himself back in his arms.
Jungkook looked quite dumbfounded, eyes wide and mouth fell open.
"Did you just go up there and found out his name and got us the keys to run away? Fuck, you're too smart Taejeon-"
"Dad you silly. I know I don't go with strangers. But he is dumb too so he thinks I'm a dumb kid but I'm not dumb. I can't say English sentences but I can steal keys."
Taejeon grinned proudly.
"Let's go when he sleeps."
And so they waited.
Hour after hour after hour until they hadn't heard any footsteps in a long, long time.
Jungkook got up and carried his kid in his arm, making sure that no matter what happened he had him close. "Ready?", he whispered and Taejeon nodded, eyes big like a puppy's. "Adventure time!!", he squealed and pressed his fingers into his Dad's arm. He wasn't purely excited, he was also scared.
Jungkook let out a sigh, "Be quiet, yeah?"
Taejeon nodded and then they started walking upstairs as quiet as possible. Kook pulled out the keys. He had stared at them for hours and he was pretty sure which one was the key for the basement, so he chose that one and put it into the keyhole. And as expected it opened immediately with no problems at all.
Well.
Until they pushed the door open and met a guy sitting on a chair in front of the door, holding a knife which he stared at, eyes loving as if he was holding a child.
"Oh look who stole my keys", he said softly, eyes landing on Taejeon.
The kid gulped and so did his father.
"You did a really bad mistake, kiddo", Taehyung said softly and then slowly got up from his chair, stepping closer.
"Let the brat down", he said sharply, directed at Jungkook.
