Chris has been in Virginia all week and I miss my man. Some drunk driver accidentally ran their car into the shop, so he's been there helping his team and getting things in order.
I've been staying with Melanie on the nights she's not at Mario's, which is rare.

"You look so lost" she laughed, coming into the kitchen

Her phone rang and she answered, immediately looking panicked. "Ok, I'll be there in a few." She said before hanging up

"What's wrong?"

"Dad had a heart attack." She grabbed her keys

"I'll meet you up there."

I want to take my car just so I can head to work after checking on him.

I was so anxious driving over to the hospital. I know we aren't on the best of terms, but he's still my dad and I'll always have love for him. That applies to both my parents, we have our differences, but I don't wish them any ill will.

"Hey, how is he?" Melanie asked as we walked over to my mom

"The doctors aren't telling me anything." She sobbed

"I thought he quit."

"He started back about two years ago."

I ignored her "Keep me updated" I said to Mel before walking off

I sat at the front desk, killing time. Today was a slow day and frankly I'm glad because I have four photography sessions once I get off, and I still haven't heard from Melanie about our dad.

"I still say speak yo' piece to them and long as you know you tried, don't stress about it. Let what's gone be, be.

"I feel you." I nodded "How's everything with the shop?"

"Things going good. The construction company said everything should be fixed by the middle of next month. Until then, one of my old bosses gone' let my workers tattoo in his shop so they don't lose money."

"That's great baby." I opened my container of chicken Caesar pasta salad "I'm glad everything is working out."

"Yeah, my Uber 'bout to be here to take me to the airport. I love you."

I froze hearing those words. Did he just say he loved me?

"Ok. Bye" I hung up

Of course I wanted to say it back, but I panicked. He threw it out there so suddenly.
Just as I was about to take a swig of water, I saw he was calling back. I took a deep breath and answered

"Yeah?" I tried to act calm

"You got me fucked up! I know you heard me."

"Yes, I heard you." I chuckled

"Damn so you don't feel the same?"

"I threw myself off guard too. I was on the other end scared than a muhfucka'." We shared a laugh

"I love you too." I smiled as if he could see me

"Ok. See you soon"

"A'ight." He said before ending the call

I started eating my food, smiling from ear to ear the entire time. I was in such a daze I almost forgot to call Melanie.

"Hey, everything ok?" I asked

"Yeah, surgery took longer than they expected, but he's out now and getting some rest."

"Ok, that's good. You were supposed to keep me posted."

"You know mom been having me do a million things.

"I'm sure." I chuckled "I might visit him tomorrow. I'll see."

"Alright, love you sis."

"Love you too." I ended the call
