Main Case Mini Arc - Episode 02 [End]

The bell reverberated throughout the school building, signaling the end of another day of classes. Kavei packed his bag leisurely, preparing to make his exit from the classroom and start his afternoon. However, his departure was halted by the class president, who rushed over to intercept him with an urgent matter at hand.

"Kavei - Kun," the class president called out, adjusting his spectacles as he approached Kavei. "It's your turn for cleaning duty today."

Kavei's brow furrowed slightly at the interruption. "Okay, and?" he replied, slightly puzzled by the urgency in the class president's voice.

The class president, his agitation palpable, clarified, "You can't just leave without completing your duty."

Kavei let out an exasperated sigh, his patience wearing thin. "I did mine a week ago," he retorted, feeling annoyed at the unnecessary delay.

The class president's frustration reached a boiling point as he confessed, "I can't do this anymore! Sebiki Chan from the other class asked me to hold you back without telling you about her!"

Kavei raised an eyebrow, unimpressed by the class president's antics. "So you're scared of her?" he inquired, his tone laced with amusement.

"She's terrifying! You don't know the kind of person she is, man!" the class president exclaimed, his panic evident as he pleaded with Kavei to keep his secret.

With a bemused expression, Kavei remarked, "Don't be such a wimp. I didn't even do anything. What do you think I am, a gangster?"

The class president's nerves were on edge as he stammered, "That's... Look, I'm pretty terrified of you as well, Kavei, but girls are on a different level! I'm begging you, spare me!"

Kavei rolled his eyes at the class president's dramatics. "Fine, whatever," he acquiesced, dismissing the class president's fears with a wave of his hand.

As the class president hurriedly made his exit, Kavei found himself alone in the room, contemplating the strange encounter. He couldn't help but wonder about the mysterious Sebiki Chan and the role she played in the drama unfolding around him.

Before he could dwell on it further, the classroom door slid open, revealing the enigmatic figure of Souta Sebiki herself. Kavei regarded her with a mixture of curiosity and annoyance as she entered the room.

"So you're Kavei," Sebiki remarked, her eyes scanning him appraisingly.

Kavei's response was terse. "Sure."

Sebiki extended an olive branch, offering him a seat. "Have a seat, Kavei - Kun," she invited.

Suppressing a sigh, Kavei complied, taking a seat opposite Sebiki. As they faced each other, an awkward silence settled between them, each waiting for the other to break it.

Sebiki eventually took the initiative. "So, you want to look into a case that was closed almost four years ago," she stated matter-of-factly.

Kavei's response was immediate and unequivocal. "No."

Sebiki's surprise was evident. "Excuse me?"

"I don't," Kavei reiterated, his tone firm.

Confusion clouded Sebiki's features. "But wasn't she your friend? Or girlfriend even?" she pressed, trying to understand Kavei's motivations.

Kavei's response was blunt. "What girlfriend? She got kidnapped before anything could happen. Also, whatever she is - was to me doesn't matter anymore."

Sebiki's frustration bubbled to the surface as she struggled to comprehend Kavei's indifference. "Don't you care about her even just a little?" she demanded, her voice tinged with exasperation.

Kavei's response was devoid of sentiment. "This is not a comic where you just go 'I can do anything for my friends' and punch the criminals," he stated matter-of-factly.

Sebiki chewed on her lower lip, grappling with conflicting emotions. While she couldn't deny the logic in Kavei's words, a part of her couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to the story.

"It's simple," Kavei continued, rising from his seat. "I'm not a professional detective. I'm not doing this thing. Goodbye."

Before Sebiki could protest further, Kavei made his exit, leaving her alone to contemplate his words. As she watched him leave, a sense of unease gnawed at her, leaving her with more questions than answers.

"Wait, Kavei - Kun-" Sebiki called out, but it was too late. Kavei had already disappeared into the hallway, leaving Sebiki to ponder the mysteries surrounding him and the case that refused to be forgotten.
