Case Free Arc - Episode 06
[Scene: Shinagawa international school
Date: April 5th
Time: 8:30 am]
The morning sun streamed through the windows of the classroom, casting a warm glow over the rows of desks neatly arranged in rows. Students chattered amongst themselves, their voices a low hum of anticipation as they awaited the start of another school day.
"Good morning, students," announced a cheerful voice, cutting through the chatter like a ray of sunshine. All heads turned to the front of the room, where their homeroom teacher, Akako, stood with a bright smile on her face. "I hope you were all able to attend your morning assembly. I am your homeroom teacher for this session, Akako, and before I commence classes, I'd like you all to meet your new classmate."
The students erupted into applause as a boy entered the room, his bag slung casually over one shoulder. Kavei - Kun, as Akako introduced him, made his way to the designated seat without protest, his expression unreadable as he settled into his new surroundings.
"Kavei - Kun, you can sit with Kai on the third seat," Akako instructed, her smile never faltering as she gestured towards the empty desk. Kai, already seated, glanced over at Kavei with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension as their eyes briefly met.
As Akako began to explain the day's lesson, Kai couldn't help but feel a sense of unease settling over him. He leaned towards Kavei, his voice barely above a whisper. "Why are you here?"
Kavei's response was equally quiet, his eyes fixed on their homeroom teacher. "The same reason why you are here."
Irritation flickered across Kai's features as he reached into his bag, pulling out his textbook with a touch more force than necessary. He paused, realizing the potential consequences of his actions in such a formal setting, and carefully placed the book on his desk with a gentler touch.
Glancing over at Kavei's desk, Kai sighed at the emptiness of it. Without a word, he slid his textbook to the center of the desk, a silent offering of assistance. Kavei's scoff broke the silence, and Kai turned to face him, his expression hardening.
"What? Helping me already?" Kavei remarked, his tone laced with sarcasm.
"Shut up and pay attention," Kai retorted, his voice firm as he turned his focus back to the front of the classroom.
As the lesson unfolded, the tension between Kai and Kavei simmered beneath the surface, a silent battle of wills playing out in the quiet confines of the classroom.
As the final bell of the first class echoed through the classroom, Kai wasted no time in gathering his belongings. With swift movements, he shoved his textbook into his bag, the urgency evident in his actions. The other students followed suit, their movements a flurry of activity as they prepared to depart for the next hour's lesson.
Outside the classroom, the hallway buzzed with the energy of anticipation. Excited chatter filled the air as students eagerly made their way towards the gym for their next class. The promise of physical activity and the chance to stretch their legs after the confines of the classroom walls drew them forward with a sense of anticipation.

The sun hung high in the sky as the students spilled out of the classroom and into the open air of the school grounds. Among them was Kamanoji Ryu, a figure revered as the sports champion of the school. With a contagious energy that seemed to radiate from every pore, Ryu's enthusiasm was infectious as he proposed their afternoon activity.
"Let's play football today," Ryu exclaimed, his voice tinged with excitement. His reputation as a formidable athlete preceded him, his numerous victories in inter-school competitions earning him the title of sports champion. With a chorus of whistles and cheers, the students eagerly followed their idol outside, their spirits buoyed by the prospect of an afternoon filled with friendly competition.
But as they walked, their exuberance was momentarily overshadowed by the presence of Kavei walking alongside them. Despite it being his first day at school, Kavei's dark aura seemed to cast a shadow over their sunny disposition. None dared to approach him, the unspoken message emanating from his demeanor clear: "don't talk to me, mind your business."
Though they smiled in his direction from time to time, their fear of his imposing presence kept them at a safe distance. Kavei's mere presence seemed to demand respect, his intense gaze leaving no room for doubt as to his intentions.
As they filed into lines, separating into groups of girls and boys, the gym teacher, Mr. Kaze, made his entrance. His tall stature and muscular build lent him an imposing presence, yet there was a warmth in his gaze that belied his stern exterior. With a blast of his whistle, he addressed the eager students gathered before him.
"We will do a small warm-up first, and then you can choose the sport you want to play," Mr. Kaze announced, his voice booming across the open space of the gymnasium. His almond-brown eyes scanned the assembled students, a proud smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he observed their enthusiasm.
With a nod of approval, Mr. Kaze outlined the plan for the class, his words met with enthusiastic cheers from the students. Gym class was not only an opportunity for physical activity but also a chance to earn good grades and increase their credits-a rare combination of fun and productivity that made it a favorite among the student body.
"Girls and boys, we will begin with long jump and then bar swing," Mr. Kaze declared, his authoritative tone leaving no room for argument. With a sense of excitement building in the air, the students eagerly prepared themselves.
The gymnasium buzzed with energy as the students lined up, eager to tackle the challenges of the day's class. With Mr. Kaze's instructions ringing in their ears, they prepared themselves for the first task: the long jump.
One by one, students sprinted along the chalk-drawn path, their muscles tensing as they approached the springboard. With a burst of energy, they launched themselves into the air, clearing the stacked blocks with varying degrees of success. But when it came time for Kavei to take his turn, he approached the stack with a lazy nonchalance that caught the attention of his classmates.
Instead of following the prescribed method, Kavei simply walked up to the blocks, effortlessly climbing over them before landing on the other side. The students watched in stunned silence, unsure of how to react to his unconventional approach.
"Kavei - Kun! You have to jump over it, not climb it," Mr. Kaze admonished, blowing his whistle to signal the breach of rules.
"But sir, I am bad at long jumps," Kavei replied lazily, his indifference palpable.
Undeterred, Mr. Kaze encouraged Kavei to give it another try, urging him to put forth his best effort. With a resigned sigh, Kavei returned to the start line and, to the surprise of his classmates, executed a flawless long jump, complete with a double somersault in mid-air.
"You can jump pretty well," Mr. Kaze complimented him, a proud smile gracing his features.
"I hate sweating though," Kavei replied with a shrug, his aversion to exertion evident.
As the class progressed, Kai and Ryu also completed their long jumps with ease, earning praise and admiration from their peers. The girls, particularly enamored with Kai, rushed to his side with water bottles and towels, their adoration evident in their excited chatter.
When it was Ryu's turn, the boys erupted into cheers and hoots, their admiration for the school's sports champion palpable. Ryu's effortless grace and professional landing only served to solidify his status as a hero among his peers, drawing hugs and fist bumps from his fellow classmates.
With the long jump completed, Mr. Kaze moved on to the next task: bar swings. The girls took their turns first, with Rakana Himeko, the heiress of RMS Entertainment, capturing the attention of the boys with her effortless grace. As she swung around the bar, her hair trailing behind her like a waterfall of silk, the boys watched in awe, their imaginations running wild with romanticized visions.
However, as Rakana attempted to land, a mishap occurred, and she inadvertently landed on a nearby boy. In a show of camaraderie, another boy rushed to her aid, helping her down with a gentle hand and a reassuring smile. Rakana thanked her classmates with genuine gratitude, their simple act of kindness leaving her touched.
As the class continued, the remaining boys prepared themselves for their turn on the bar swings, their anticipation palpable as they awaited their chance to showcase their skills. And as Mr. Kaze blew his whistle to signal the start of their turn, the gymnasium echoed with the sounds of excitement and determination, a testament to the camaraderie and competitive spirit that defined their class.
The gymnasium echoed with the sound of Ryu's professional bar swings, his movements fluid and effortless as he soared through the air before landing gracefully on the sand below. Cheers erupted from his classmates, admiration shining in their eyes as they watched the sports champion in action.
As the applause for Ryu subsided, he turned his attention to Kavei, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Shall we see who swings the most number of times?" he proposed, facing Kavei directly.
"Why would you want to compete with me? I suck at games," Kavei replied, his gaze meeting Ryu's without hesitation.
"Sure you do. But you won over my boys with your long jump," Ryu retorted, a playful shrug punctuating his words.
Kavei sighed, a hint of exasperation creeping into his tone. "Are you that hungry for popularity?"
"For popularity? Nah. For competition? Pretty darn much," Ryu replied, his smile widening as he spoke.
"I hate you," Kavei muttered under his breath, though the words held little malice.
"The feeling's mutual, buddy," Ryu quipped, his tone light despite the underlying competitiveness between them.
With a resigned sigh, Kavei conceded, "Sheesh. Let's get this over with then."
Though Kavei's turn was scheduled after Kai's in the roll call, he stepped forward and requested to go first. Mr. Kaze, always eager for a bit of school drama, readily agreed, allowing Kavei to take the lead.
Kavei approached the bar with a sense of determination, his eyes fixed on the metal frame looming above him. He may have been a bit shorter than Ryu, but he refused to let that hinder him. With a swift movement, he jumped up and grabbed onto the bar with both hands, his legs dangling below him.
Glancing at Ryu, who merely shrugged in response, Kavei lifted his legs and began to swing, his movements surprisingly smooth and controlled. As he swung back and forth, his body moving with a grace that belied his earlier protestations, the count of his swings quickly surpassed expectations.
"He ain't looking no dizzy to me, boy. Looks like you have competition," one of the boys whispered to Ryu, admiration evident in his tone.
Ryu clicked his tongue in response, a faint smile playing at the corners of his lips as he watched Kavei's impressive display. Despite the competitive edge between them, there was a sense of camaraderie in the air, a shared appreciation for the thrill of competition and the satisfaction of pushing oneself to new heights.
As Kavei landed back on solid ground, the gymnasium erupted into cheers once more, applause ringing out for his unexpected feat. With a nonchalant shrug, Kavei made his way back to his place in line, his demeanor betraying nothing of the exhilaration that undoubtedly coursed through him.
As Kai stepped up to the bar swing task, he was met with a chorus of cheers and adoration from the girls. Their words of praise and admiration filled the air, a testament to Kai's popularity and charm among his peers. Ryu couldn't help but chuckle at the enthusiastic display, his amusement evident as he watched Kai approach the bar with a hint of awkwardness.
With a smooth motion, Kai lifted himself onto the bar handle, his movements fluid and confident. Though not as effortless as Ryu's, Kai managed to swing three times before landing gracefully on the ground below. As he walked away from the bar, the cheers of the girls followed him, their admiration for his talents ringing loud and clear.
