Episode 9: A Star's History
*Starting Scene*
Having returned to Virago's hangar, Virgil and Suta promptly notice Anemone marching towards them from the entrance way as the former depicts that his best friend's significantly upset.
Because of that, the redhead hoists both hands at Anemone as he calmly tries to defuse the situation before it could even begin. "Okay, you must've saw me charging towards the Taurians' ship, hence you being ticked off. Sure, I'll come clean and apologize since I was basically going to kill myself in the attempt of doing some damage to them. I got caught up in the moment. Can you forgive me?"
Anemone grabs Virgil's neck while harshly shaking him as she only releases growling sounds to represent her wrath.
Suta gingerly laughs as he observes the pair's interaction and thinks, "This oughta' be called their Usual Procedure. V does something and Anemone gets pissed by whatever it is."
In the meantime, Virgil strains himself to talk, watching Anemone with his person moving forward and backwards rhythmically. "Anemone...! You're choking me...!" His glasses accidentally slip from his nose, bouncing against the floor as it slides toward the right a little.
While the object ceased its inadvertent mobility, it's revealed that Doyenne's nearby the glasses and steadily picks it up via her left hand. Afterwards, the beauty repairs her stance, considering she had to bend so she could reach Virgil's glasses, and focuses on the trio with minimal emotion demonstrated.
Suta instantly registers Doyenne placement, compliments of him standing towards Virgil's left, as he cheerfully utters, "Ooh, somebody important came all the way here to see us."
Anemone detains her strangling of Virgil, although kept her grip upon his neck, and views Doyenne with faint intrigue.
Virgil mimics Anemone's action while his face is a bit blue from the lack of oxygen as he weakly greets, "Hey..."
Doyenne emits a stern demeanor amidst extending her left arm forth to offer Virgil his glasses. "Don't you need this?"
Virgil smirks and frees himself from Anemone's grasp due to the Asian unconsciously loosening her hands as he confronts Doyenne to regain possession of his glasses, clearing his throat to properly express his gratitude. "Thanks." He puts the object back where they belong. "To be honest though, I'm capable of seeing decently without it. It just gets a tad foggy."
Doyenne nods out of understanding prior to shifting her gaze to Suta with her hands united at her rear. "You continue to save our asses, Suta. We're in your debt again."
Suta shakes his head as he locates himself in the middle of Virgil and Anemone to fully witness Doyenne. "That's not necessary. Virgil said it was our personal payment for the kindness you and your crew has shown us. Lacey was supposed to tell you that."
Doyenne peers behind herself via veering her head left while implementing her sight onto Lacey, who's fairly nearby since the quartet are currently poised toward Jet 4's left as the female mechanic's verifying the machine's condition. During that, the pale dame exhibits a criticizing attitude and remarks with minor exasperation, "Apparently, she forgot to pass on the message. She's in charge of this area, and yet, some stuff flies over her head." Doyenne reverts her concentration to the three guests while relaxing to issue them a smile. "Either way, you have my gratitude."
Anemone skeptically scoffs, folding her arms together. "I didn't do anything, so your appreciation means nothing to me." She quickly mixes in a suspecting behavior. "If that's all, shouldn't you be going back to take command?"
Doyenne coldly glances at Anemone, detecting a bit of hostility, and briefly slants her head right. After doing that, the pale chick specifies her attention to Suta as she politely admits, "Aside from thanking you, I'm here to have the discussion I initially desired from Suta. Eve can handle the Bridge until I'm done."
Suta shrugs. "I don't mind answering your question now. Though it won't be free. I asked Mamori to bestow knowledge onto about you and your crew, but she couldn't really give me much concerning you."
Doyenne displays a hint of discomfort as she removes her hands from her posterior. "You want an exchange of information? That's a tall order. Eve's the only one I've confided with half of the things I've experienced before founding Victress. Even then, there are a bunch of details she has no idea of. It wouldn't be right if I divulge what I haven't to her and my comrades."
Suta rebuttals in an understanding manner. "I'm not expecting you to. I simply wanna' comprehend one thing that makes you the way you are. Who you are in general was already revealed to me by how your friends trust you. That's nearly enough for me to accept."
Doyenne emanates confusion. "In that case, what's missing?"
Suta navigates his vision to Doyenne's right hand. "It's what Eve was hoping to discover by chatting with me. The connection you and I have."
Virgil's eyes narrow while also observing Doyenne's appendage, curiosity vaguely establishes itself, as he thinks, "Is Suta implying that he doesn't know why Doyenne has that gem attached to her hand?"
Doyenne grows nervous, looking at her limb with tension building inside the grey-eyed woman. "I should've guessed that was what Eve's intention with you. Despite the beating, she refused to spill it." She aims her focus to Suta again, sadness partially presented. "Sorry, however, I despise speaking about it. I get too emotional when I do."
Suta mentally reflects on Doyenne's explanation via temporarily viewing the floor prior to grinning from determination and applies his gaze toward the brunette. "There's an alternative method. You won't need to deliver a single word involving it. Would that help?"
Doyenne brims uncertainty as she slightly steers her head left with her eyes remaining set onto Suta. "Like, writing it down? That wouldn't work. I just get very anxious at merely collecting my thoughts about it."
Virgil keys upon Doyenne's statement while somewhat astonished and thinks, "She's similar to me in that aspect. It's strange 'cause she's the Bounty Hunter's leader. Holding such a huge position and not portraying a shred of despair. That's what comes with it. She willing took on that responsibility, but mentioning her past brings a lot of difficulty for her. It wouldn't make sense to those who haven't ever dealt with that sort of dilemma."
Simultaneously, Suta waves off Doyenne's previous reply with his right hand elevated close to the shoulder it pertains to. "No. You solely gotta' chill out." The poncho-wearing lad administers his lifted appendage atop his chest. "Leave everything else to me, although I must apologize in advance."
Doyenne directs her head to correctly watch Suta, quite intrigued in the process. "And the reason is...?"
Suta gestures his right hand according to demonstrate his index and middle fingers. "There's actually two." The young man lowers his raised limb to embed it onto his waist. "For starters, I'm aware that there's a deep intimacy to what I'm gonna' do. Second, I'll learn way more than we agreed on. You were warned."
Anemone instills her concentration to Suta as she rummages through her brain. "Why does that sound familiar? Especially the intimacy part."
Doyenne draws her left hand to her hair while commencing to caress it. "What is it precisely?"
Suta plainly motions Doyenne to shorten the gap between them via his western limb.
Doyenne gradually complies and leans onward since she assumed that Suta was going to inform her by whispering into her ear, which she decided to off the right one for the task.
Suddenly, Suta sneaks a kiss onto Doyenne's lips, forcing the buttoned-shirt character's head to be straightened.
Doyenne's immediately stunned as her face becomes crimson and is substantially stiff.
Depicting that, Anemone recalls the fact that Suta did the same with her while getting flustered.
Concurrently, Virgil peers at the ceiling after commandeering his right hand to his chin to repeatedly tap it and emits a nonchalant personality while thinking, "Oh, yeah... Suta stated that he does that to gain knowledge. Not simply for figuring out languages. Wonder if he cares about the being's gender."
Suta eventually separates himself from Doyenne before receiving a right punch to his left cheek, although appears unaffected by the strike.
Worry promptly consumes Anemone as she confronts Suta with a small gasp escaping her.
Doyenne fiercely glares at Suta while keeping her fist against the star's afflicted region. "You oughta' be ashamed!"
Suta chuckles, making no attempt of detaching Doyenne's limb from him. "Told you so." The teal-eyed male radiates a lackadaisical conduct. "Well, now I comprehend your sensitivity. That Delta is a memento. Your family passed it down to you prior to their death."
Doyenne's eyes widen from bewilderment, regaining her usual coloring, and slowly backs away with her hoisted appendage going limp a tad.
Virgil hurriedly mounts his attention to Doyenne once he heard Suta's declaration as mild surprise is showing.
Suta persists his speech while containing his voice faintly restrained so nobody outside of the four of them could listen. "Your ancestors came across it at a time I had the habit of tossing Deltas through wormholes to kill boredom. Wherever they ended up didn't matter a ton. Normally, they dissipate following a specific period and don't accomplish anything without my consent. Their value only exist through one's perspective."
Doyenne's rapidly blanketed by a mad attitude, maintaining her distance from Suta.
Suta sharply exhales with dread exhibited. "It wasn't my intention for their obsession, although I will say sorry. It's messed up that you got to suffer what you did."
Virgil and Anemone are instantly dumbfounded as they stay silent.
Doyenne grits her teeth, her wrath increasing exponentially, until abruptly walking towards the right to exit the hangar.
The trio witness Doyenne's departure as Suta's encompassed by sorrow while shutting his eyes and gently plants both hands on his head's temporal area amidst sighing.
Anemone hastily diverts her vision to Suta while significantly confused. "The hell?! I missed something!"
Suta shifts his focus towards Anemone, drops his hands and utters in a disgruntled tone, "It ain't easy being a star. That basically summarizes it." He recedes rearward a bit.
Virgil's gaze pursues Suta's maneuvering as asks with interest taking shape. "Wanna' confide in us?"
Suta nods with a wholehearted smirk demonstrated. "Of course. I was readying myself to do that. It's best that we talk out of the range of the mechanics though. Some details obviously concern Doyenne."
Virgil shares a glimpse with Anemone to verify their mutual desire in finding out what Suta has to tell, swiftly discerning that because of the fact they performed the same action, before the pair respond towards Suta together. "Okay."
While that transpired, Suta emits joy amidst turning himself to have his posterior towards Anemone and Virgil as he leads them to the hangar's opposing sector from Jet 4's placement.
Once the three individuals are there, the shaggy-haired guy swings his body clockwise to face Virgil and Anemone again while dislodging his right hand from his side to completely descend it. "You know what? The story's kinda' extensive. I think you two oughta' eat. Plus, you get to sit during my blabbing."
Anemone's on the verge of expressing annoyance, considering that her and Virgil are prepared for Suta's explanation, prior to feeling her stomach rumble. This causes the green-eyed teenager to blush while resting her hands atop her belly, momentarily driving her sight onto it. A second later, Anemone snaps her concentration to Suta as she tries pretending that no noise originated from her, having stationed both hands upon her hips. "Sure, why not? I imagine you must be hungry, hence you suggesting it."
Suta issues Anemone skepticism. "Uh, I'm a star. I have no need for outside resources to preserve myself."
Anemone's profoundly embarrassed as she hesitantly veers her attention to Virgil, the dame's instincts informing her that his eyes are locked on her.
Virgil shakes his head the second Anemone views him while notably disappointed. "You're so transparent, Anemone."
Anemone grovels out of frustration amidst slouching forth.
*Scene Change*
Virgil, Anemone and Suta soon reach Virago's cafeteria that's poised at the left side of one of the halls linked to the Bridge. Upon their arrival, the trio register that the large room is mostly empty, with the exception of a light-skinned woman located towards the right region of the cafeteria from the three character's perspective.
The lady's dressed in a white, chef's uniform as she wields a big bust and sleek, orange hair tied into a single tail sticking out from the left part of her head. At the same time, the female quickly sees Virgil, Anemone and Suta while ceasing her fiddling with several dishes possessing food that she's presently perching onto the elongated, rectangular tables the cafeteria owns. Following that, the femme's pink pupils dilate while blurting from astonishment, "Oh, you're our guests, correct?!"
Anemone scans the damsel's constitution while baffled and thinks, "What does she eat to have that body?!" The Asian haphazardly panics as she switches her focus to her right, compliments of Virgil standing that way, while still thinking. "Would V drool over her 'cause of it?!"
Effortlessly answering Anemone without realizing, Virgil displays a dull behavior and is scratching his left cheek via the limb that corresponds to it.
Anemone's shocked at the bland reaction Virgil gave as she thinks with her jaw hanging a little, "I've never thought about it, but... Is it possible that V's not into girls? I don't even remember him asking one out, despite how popular he is." The Asian brims a bashful demeanor and closes her mouth as she retains her mental dialogue. "I guess I was too happy that he didn't to contemplate the reasoning. Besides, it's probable that his hardcore dedication to flying got in the way of that."
Then, Suta progresses towards the beauty, ultimately stopping at the left section of the table due to the chick being poised towards the furniture's right, and shows a charming smile. "Hi, what's your name? Do you mind if we grab a bit of chow?"
Virgil chuckles with his western hand dropped, sarcastically muttering once he's finished, "That definitely was discreet, no doubt."
Meanwhile, the orange-haired woman pauses to internally secure that she didn't misheard Suta's greeting until commenting with an amused conduct, "I'm Patema. It's fine if you all want to eat now. We try to get as many as we can to have each meal at the same time, however, that'd put us at risk of attacks."
Suta nods. "That's understandable. We highly appreciate it."
With that, the trio sit at the table that Patema was at while Virgil and Anemone begin to enjoy the food via the utensils already mounted there.
After indulging a tad, Virgil navigates his vision left to remark towards Patema, who's presently at the table behind him, with glee portrayed, "Do you always cook by yourself? If so, it's clear why. This is delicious."
A minuscule shade of red envelopes Patema as she concentrates on Virgil through steering her upper body westward. "Nah, there are 3 of us. The other two are having a break. I volunteered to keep an eye on the foods's preparation. Also, I like setting stuff up for consumption."
Virgil laughs while shutting his eyes. "You sound similar to my mom. I bet you'd make a great parent one day."
Patema blushes more, shyness engulfing her immensely to the point that she stutters, "T-T-Thank you!"
Annoyance establishes itself on Anemone from getting jealous by how Virgil's acting with Patema and thinks as she's seated ahead of the blue-eyed gentleman, "Maybe that's all a ploy for me to lower my guard...! He's SO flirting with her...!" The femme gestures both hands over the table in opposing directions from one another while breathing profusely to calm her nerves before lying her limbs atop the furniture, ensuring that they don't descend onto her plate still packed with food. Afterwards, Anemone draws her attention to Virgil as she firmly whispers, "Weren't we supposed to listen to Suta's story?"
Virgil hastily aims his sight to Anemone, emanating an expression of remembrance as he gingerly rebuttals. "Right!" The redhead veers his gaze to the left since Suta's sitting that way with anticipation exhibited.
Suta glances at Patema so he could certain that she's out of orange prior to leisurely saying, "Okay, you two are aware of my legend. Predictably, it isn't something I spread. Fact in the matter, I used to be liberal with the wishes I grant. That left a huge influence that never faded away, although it has been a long while that I've accepted common desires." He briefly sighs as his head is tilted left somewhat. "The living were fueled by signs of my existence. A Delta I hurled into space was discovered and worshiped. I hadn't yet chose to minimize my selection, so I didn't expect the repercussions. The obsession for power and salvation."
Virgil radiates intrigue while placing his right elbow upon the table to instill leverage due to him placing his eastern hand against the cheek it pertains. "Why both?"
Suta fixes his head's angling to solely observe Virgil. "It's impossible that everyone will contain the same wish. Power comes in different forms, as well as salvation. In all, that's mainly what they shared. Doyenne's family hoped to be saved through overwhelming dominance."
Anemone promptly speaks with a scrutinizing tone, "How were they planning to do that with a measly gem? We've seen that you utilize it for defense and as a blunt tool. Nothing else. Does it do more?"
Suta views Anemone and grins, having his hands joined between his legs. "It has one base function, but all my weapons wield that capability. That's 'cause they're a part of me. They destroy."
Virgil questions as his attitude demonstrates suspicion. "What do you destroy?"
Suta sustains his personality while looking at Virgil again. "Whatever that exists. Inanimate objects, creatures, stuff that normally can't be witnessed, etcetera. My aura, the thing humans call the Sun's flames, has that ability."
Virgil and Anemone are temporarily awestruck until the Caucasian brims mild skepticism while bringing himself near Suta a little via putting his right hand down. "You create and destroy... Are you positive you're not God?"
Suta chuckles as he closes his eyes. "You humans love to flatter me." The male administers his concentration onto Virgil once more. "You gotta' believe me though. If I were, there wouldn't be anything that could escape me. I have my limits, which I'm glad for."
Anemone bends over the table while curiosity plagues her. "Why?"
Suta refrains from deviating his vision amidst earnestly stating, "Eternity is way too long. The end is required."
Anemone gawks at Suta, rendered speechless from bewilderment.
Noticing Anemone's behavior out of the corner of his eyes, Suta resumes his talking and reverts his focus to Virgil. "Back to Doyenne. The Delta stuck to her hand was due to an experimentation."
Virgil's instantly baffled as he yells without hesitation, "She was what?!"
Patema's startled by Virgil's unprecedented outburst while almost dropping the plate she was carrying from the silver mobile tray holding the food at the left of the table that she's preparing.
Virgil urgently commandeers his attention to Patema, separating himself from Suta, and utters with remorse, "Sorry about that."
Patema nervously giggles, currently confronting the Virgil due to being towards the table's opposite region. "It's alright! I didn't let it fall!"
Relief emits from Virgil as he nods. "Good."
Anemone grinds her teeth a bit while watching Virgil, hostility encompassing her, prior to shutting her eyes to restrain herself. "Continue, Suta."
Suta complies with Anemone's request, keeping his sight glued to Virgil. "Doyenne wasn't alone. Her entire family underwent the process of turning my power into their own. The goal was to merge with Delta."
Virgil stares at Suta and portrays a solemn conduct. "They achieved it with Doyenne."
Suta motions his head from side to side a tad. "Uh-huh, but it cost them their life. They could only live a small period after Delta rejected them, so they hurriedly attempted passing it to the next relative." He detains his movement while his eyes grow cold. "Doyenne, depending on one's opinion, was the winner. She survived the forced compatibility her desperate parents implemented. They hoped to make her into an artificial star."
Virgil strives to retain his composure, however, displays a hint of anger. "That's ridiculous. She could've died."
Sorrow adds to Suta's demeanor. "She honestly would've preferred it, especially thanks to what came following her last family member's death."
Virgil's wrath quickly swaps with confusion as he cocks his right eyebrow, implying his wish to know.
Suta suddenly smiles. "I'm not telling you that part though."
Virgil becomes infuriated while adjusting himself to face Suta and clutches the lad's poncho via both hands. "Are you kidding me?!"
Patema's scared again and struggles to not forge a mess from her random release of a new plate in her possession.
Virgil doesn't allow that to distract him as he intently gazes at Suta.
In the meantime, Anemone's dumbfounded by Virgil's reaction while remaining quiet.
Suta slants his head to the right amidst steering himself sufficiently to confront Virgil. "If you're so interested, communicate with her. She needs somebody to push hard enough."
Surprise rapidly overtakes Virgil and steadily relinquishes his grasp of Suta's clothing to perch his hands onto his lap with his head lowered to depict his limbs as he mutters apologetically, "Wow... I just lost it there for a moment... I even considered clocking you."
Suta nonchalantly replies. "I realized that. It wouldn't bother me had you done so."
Virgil elevates his head to see Suta as intrigue is established for the second time. "Yeah, Doyenne socked you and you didn't budge in the slightest. Don't you feel pain?"
Suta lifts his left hand to gyrate it a bit while squinting his eyes. "I sorta' do." He descends his appendage as he eases his expression. "If I'm hit at the right spot."
Anemone bluntly asks with malice emanating, "Like a kick to the crotch?"
Virgil grimaces at the mentioning of that before shifting his vision to Anemone and sarcastically comments, "Real classy, Anemone."
Anemone giggles at Virgil, closing her eyes in the process.
Simultaneously, Suta shows an amused attitude as he waves off Anemone's question via his left hand. "No. After all, this isn't my true form."
Anemone swiftly reopens her eyes to demonstrate disbelief towards Suta. "Seriously?!"
Suta sharply nods. "Obviously. I'm not human, so why would I naturally appear as such? I decided to present myself this way for both of you to treat me normally." The young man diverts his concentration to his apparel. "I actually went with this outfit based on Intel I gained by one of the folks I was compatible with. She had a relationship with a guy of your race, despite them being unable to speak the same language." Suta resets his attention to Virgil and Anemone while vaguely sadden. "Unfortunately, she didn't succeed in obtaining my service. Her selfishness was her downfall, although that's typical from royalty."
Virgil's moderately caught off guard, but eventually rids himself of his astonishment to permit a passive behavior. "You can look however you please then."
Suta delivers a right thumbs up towards Virgil. "Exactly."
Virgil chuckles until immediately registering a detail while suspicion returns. "Would you mind revealing your real self to us?"
Suta shakes his head and crosses his arms as he leans his right side against his chair. "I could care less, frankly. How about I do that when we accomplish your wish? Use it as an extra incentive."
Virgil smirks. "Is that a cop out I'm detecting? Why not simply say you're not in the mood? You did that with Doyenne."
Suta faintly laughs. "It's bad to heavily rely on a single excuse. You commence to be predictable. Plus, familiarizing yourself with a star's way of being oughta' wield a tremendous level of toughness."
Virgil brims a smart-ass personality. "Oh, right. It's up there with finding a four-leaf clover and figuring out what came first, the chicken or the egg."
Suta arrogantly responds. "Totally!"
Anemone scoffs as she plants both hands beneath her chin to support her head while murmuring with her focus on Virgil and Suta, "Man, guys build friendships so fast. They play along with each other's crap effortlessly." Alarm abruptly blankets the blue-haired dame and thinks, "Wait, Suta has the power to transform into anyone!" Anemone specifies her sight to Suta while persisting her thoughts. "Does that apply to his gender?!" She hastily detaches her hands from her as she slams her forehead onto her plate, traumatized.
Virgil promptly faces Anemone while substantially frightened prior to slumping towards his right with a criticizing conduct arising. "Umm, Anemone?"
