Chapter 3
My first day of school went pretty much how i thought it would. Give or take. I thought maybe kids would want to be my friend because i was famous. but instead the girls hated me without even knowing me. "Great now that SHE'S here none of us will gets dates." "Look at the male population going gaga over her." "She isn't even that pretty." "Don't be dense Daphney she is that pretty that's why she's a model but she could eat something." I did eat just not a lot. I brought my lunch so that what i was eating was still moderately healthy. I wanted the cake and occasionally I'd have it but if i ever wanted to get back into modeling loosing thirty pounds would be tough.
I found my locker and started pulling and putting books away. "Ew, what are you?" Asked a girl next to me. I chuckled. "I'm Olivia." "Oh i heard you were attending school here." She said narrowing her eyes at me. "Just stay away from my boyfriend Conner." She said. "I don't even know your boyfriend." I called out as she stomped off. I slammed my locker. What a mean girl.
"Don't worry about Megan, she's territorial of her precious Conner. But she's just your average head cheerleader air head type." She said. "I'm Lucy." "Olivia nice to meet you." "Ah so you're the reason half the male population has lost it at this school." "So you know who i am?" Great, i was hoping one person wouldn't know who i was. "You? No i have no idea who you are but these guys sure do." She shrugged. "Guess i spend most of my time in books. I am really sorry that i have no idea who you are." She said flipping her hair over her shoulder.
"I like you then." I said. "Me? Wow that's a first most people don't want a thing to do with me at this school I'm too edgy or something." She said rolling her eyes. She had short choppy black hair with a few red streaks. "I think you're cool, and you're the first person to A. not care who i am and B. that's actually spoken to me." I said. "Then we shall be friends. Since we are friends can you do me a tiny favor?" She asked. "Maybe, what is it." She pointed. "See that boy right there?" I looked where she pointed and saw the cutest boy I'd ever seen. And i was around models on the daily. He had light shaggy brown hair and bright blue eyes. He was talking to his friends and next to him was Megan. He stepped out into the hallway and pretended to throw a foot ball. "I threw that ball and bam i was surrounded by other players but Kenny had that sucker and he was gone it was a great play!" He said.
"That's Conner isn't it?" I asked. "Yes mam." "Well everybody already hates me anyways so what've i got to lose? What do you want me to do?" I asked. "That's the spirit i knew i liked you. Go talk to him." "Oh I'll do more than talk to him, i don't like Megan very much." I said wrinkling my nose. "Me either." I pulled my schedule from my pocket and proceeded to walk down the hall way. I "accidentally" bumped into Conner. "Oh no, goodness me I'm so sorry. I was looking for Mr. Barns class. First period is starting soon and I'm just so lost." I said.
"With that accent I'd say you're more than a little lost." He said winking at me. My heart melted a little. "But Mr. Barns is all the way down that hall and the third door on the right. You're not from around here are you?" He asked. "Georgia." I said sheepishly. "I think your accent is adorable." "Excuse me!?" Megan asked coming over. "I told you not to mess with my boyfriend yet here you are." She held her hands out. "Babe it's fine i was just telling her where her first class is." Said Conner. "Yes and calling her adorable. I don't think so. Come on." He shrugged and mouthed sorry. "For the record i said her accent was adorable not her." He said. "Well you flirted right in front of me." Said Megan pouting. I walked back towards Lucy. We immediately fell into a fit of laughter.
"That boy is seriously fine." I said looking back at him. "Oh, i so support that i really don't like Megan. But Conner is nice." She said wrinkling her nose. "Is there a reason you don't like Megan?" I asked. "When we were in eight grade we were best friends. Some kids saw me give her a hug and made a joke that we were lesbians she jerked back and started telling people that i was. And people wanted to know what happened she spun some story. And she soared to popularity and here i am still in the sewer..." "Hey the ninja turtles lived in the sewer, i say this is a pretty cool place to be." I said slinging my arm around her. The bell rang for first period. "You might just be right, catch you later." Said Lucy waving.
I didn't really know where anything was but i guess i would figure out the more i walked around the school. I had done my best to memorize my schedule, but until i knew where the rooms actually were they were just words on a paper. My first class was English four. One of the required classes to graduate. I had already taken all the math i needed, i wanted that out of the way. I Had to take lot's of extracurriculars since those weren't required for the homeschooling i did. My next class was life 101. That sounded kind of boring since i had been living my life pretty much in the fast lane for years. I walked into life 101 and waited at the back. I did that so that i wouldn't take anybody's seat. Assuming they sat in the same spot everyday. I didn't really know how high school was supposed to go just yet. This day had already been pretty crazy. I didn't need anybody trying to mace me. Okay so maybe I'm used to schools in Georgia where people don't mace you. But kids in New York were tougher than kids back home.
After everybody was seated i scanned the room. I laughed to my self. Of course there was a spot in the back next to Conner. Megan didn't want anybody sitting next to her man. And on her right was a dark girl with long black hair. She didn't even bother looking their way. Once we were all seated a lovely older lady stood at the front of the room. She clapped her hands. "Students!!" We all got quiet.
"Okay so here's what i want you to do. See how there are four rows of desks? I want these two on my left and these two on my right. If you're in row number one look to your right. Row number two look to your left. Row number three look to your right. Row number four look to your left. That will be your partner." I turned to Conner. "Hi partner." I said. He beamed. "Uh no Ms. Roma i do not think so! I cannot be Celine's partner i need to work with Conner!!" Megan said standing up and screaming. "Megan, we are not choosing our partners you get who you get. Now please take a seat!"
"As you can tell we have about 90% girls in this class that's fine. We are going to play house this week so to speak. You and your partner will decide who will be the husband and who will be the wife." Ms. Roma said. "Obviously I'm the husband." I joked. "You will come up with your partner and get in line. This first bowl has your jobs in it. The second bowl has your cars in it. The third bowl has your house in it and the fourth bowl has your kids in it. So you will both pull from bowl one and two and one of you will pull from bowl three and the other bowl four. Come up here and get started i will give you ten minutes to discuss what you collected from the bowls." "Shall we wifey?" Conner put his arm out. I linked mine with his. "Don't get any ideas beggar this is just for class. He's still mine." Said Megan narrowing her eyes at me. I rolled mine back at her. "Yea well he's still my husband." I said back, not really much of a comeback but i don't know how to do this. We pulled jobs from the bowl. "Hey I'm a nurse!" I said. "Sweet, and I'm a doctor." He said. "Oh that sounds fun." I said. "It sounds dirty." Conner said raising his eyebrows. "That too." I giggled. "Hey i got an SUV." I said holding it up. "It's cute." He said pulling out a sports car. "Oh yea now this is a Doctor's car." He held it up. We pulled out a beautiful two story brick house. And the kids, one boy and one girl. We took a seat. "Okay what are the kids names?" I asked. "Uh..." "How about we use our middle names? What's yours's?" "Conner Dale Jeffries." He said his full name for me. "Conner Dale! That's so cute!." I squealed. "Yea maybe if you're from the south." Conner said pinching my arm lightly. "Hey, people from the south are awesome!" I squealed. "Says you! What's yours?" He asked. "Olivia Grace Jeffries, yea i like it." I said smiling. "Ok how about Meredith Grace." He asked. "Cute! And how about for the boy Elijah Dale?" I asked. "Love it how old are the kids?" He asked. "The boy can be eight and the girl can be two?" I asked. "Perfect!" He high fived me.
"Okay class pay attention. Now you will come up with a meal plan. Weather you buy groceries once a week or once every two weeks. Then you will get together and prepare a meal. You'll show me your grocery list and how much you spent and a recipe of what you cooked. I want to see your work tomorrow. Now get with your partners and during the rest of the class talk about what you'll cook and come up with a grocery list. I also want you to show me what you're paying for all of your bills." Said Ms. Roma.
I turned to Conner, but it was hard to focus. Megan glared at us the whole time. Her poor partner kept trying to get her attention. She sighed and finally started working on the assignment herself. "Okay so what do we buy, i guess since we have kids...well...i have no idea I've been on a strict diet since third grade. Tell me what they'd eat?" I asked.
"Well the oldest, Elijah is in school so he needs things like pudding cups and stuff for sandwiches assuming we pack his lunch but maybe he eats what they serve at school? And the youngest probably juice lot's of juice." He nodded. I started writing down what he told me in a notebook. "I'm suddenly hungry." I said.
"Right! So what will we cook for our dinner tonight?" He asked. "Mm steak." I said. "Ooh i like the way you think." He said. "I've forgotten what steak taste like." I said. "Really? Dang i don't know how you did it." He said. I shrugged. "I didn't have much choice." "Well we've got steak and we can do some mashed potatoes. And biscuits oh we need dessert." He said.
"Chocolate cake..." I said licking my lips. He grinned big. "Okay chocolate cake it is." He said. We finished the list. "We don't have to buy any of this, in fact we can go to Wal mart.com and put all of this in the cart and get a list of the prices. We can print them out." He said. "Genius, that must be why you're a doctor." I said. "Well you're a nurse so you're no slob either." He said.
"Yea well I'm a teacher..." Said Megan butting in. "Oh that's nice." I said. "Nobody asked you! Butt out!" Said Megan. "You butt out were trying to do our assignment." I said scowling. "Ugh whatever." She said still staring. "Sorry." Conner mouthed. I shrugged. We started adding all of the stuff onto his phone. "Okay I'm logged into the school wi-fi...this should send it to the printers in the library." Conner said not looking up from his phone. "There we go all done." He said. "Great, so we have to actually go pick up the food though for the meal we are cooking tonight." Perfect.
"Okay so let's see. Let's start with the house. We have to pay a note I'd assume. Insurance. Plus water and electricity. We have to pay internet, cable and phone. Plus cell phone and car notes. Plus car insurance." I said. "Okay we may need to google some of this. I mean i pay a car note and insurance. But other than that I'm not sure." He shrugged. We wrote down the price for the groceries and decided all of that would be enough for two weeks so we doubled it for the month. Then He started looking up the car stuff while i looked up the house stuff. By the end of class we had a monthly budget. "Wow i never knew being an adult was so expensive." I said. "Me either, and i won't be as lucky to have a good job like a doctor." "I guess that's what we were supposed to learn." I said nodding. We finished up and Megan sitting on the other side of us got Conners attention.
"So i was thinking I'd come over after school today." She said. "Oh okay, maybe at like seven?" "Why not four?" She asked a devious grin on her face. "Oh I'll be doing homework with Olivia here. But i can text you when I'm done." He said. "Well i don't mind coming over she won't be in the way." Megan said innocently. Conner sighed. "Look I'm just trying to pass this class. I only took it because you wanted me too. Can i please just do the assignment?" He asked. "Well why can't i just come and hang out with you guys..." "One you made it very clear you don't like Olivia, that's not fair to her and two don't you trust me?" He asked. "You? Yes. Her? No. I've seen the way she looks at you." Said Megan.
He rolled his eyes. "You're ridiculous she's had her shot at models. I don't think she's looking at me. Were just working on this assignment together and i really don't like your attitude." "My attitude?" She asked. "Yes, you're always so controlling. I just need you to chill out." He said. "Well I..." The bell rang. I stood up gathering my things. "How about i give you a ride after school? We can go straight to the store." He asked. "Okay great, the paper from the printer?" I asked. "Oh! Yea I'll swing by the library and pick it up it's next to my next class." He said. "Great, okay I'll meet you by the doors leading out to the parking lot. See you then." I said waving.
"Hey over here!" Called Lucy at the entrance to the lunch room. "Oh hey." I said. "Well how's your first day going so far?" She asked. "Well let's see i got married to Conner..." "You what?" She asked laughing and picking up a green tray and setting in down on the rack. She picked out what she wanted. "Yea in life 101. You know it's cool they have that class because you'd be surprised, there are so many things i don't know how to do. And i think it's good were getting a crash course in marriage. Things you don't think about." I said. I held onto my brown bag of lunch while Lucy picked out what she wanted, at the end she paid and we walked into the lunch room.
"How's Megan taking it? I'm sure she's ticked off." Said Lucy. "Oh she's peeved but i didn't ask to be paired with him. But you know what? He's nice like really nice." I said. "Yea I've always thought Conner was nice...Just be careful. Megan doesn't like to share." Said Lucy. I rolled my eyes. "I don't care, she doesn't have much of a choice. So were cooking dinner after school." I said. "Great, bout time we put some meat on your bones." She said laughing.
