Chapter 13

I was a little anxious about meeting Conner's parent's. "Hey you okay over there?" He asked me as we sat doing homework at the kitchen table. "Oh um i was just worrying about your parents. What if they don't like me? I mean we got together so quickly. And..." He put his hand on mine. "You have nothing to worry about, i promise." He said.

"Well did you parents like Megan?" I asked. He frowned. "No, but you know how she is. My parents thought she was clingy and a bit rude." He saw the look on my face. "All things you are not. Look i promise you my parents are going to like you." He pulled a face. "Oh no, what's that face for?" I asked.

"Well it's just i have two older brothers who come for dinner a lot." He started. "What you don't get along?" I asked. "It's not that, it's just...ah you'll see." He said shaking his head. I shrugged. "Okay." I got back to my homework. A little while later the door opened and his mom walked in. She saw us studying and smiled coming over.

"Hi, you must be Olivia. I'm Helen. It's so nice to finally meet you!" She gushed giving me a hug. "You too." I smiled. The door opened again and Conner's brothers came in. Each carrying a sack of laundry over their shoulders. "Boys, go start your laundry and get cleaned up for dinner." Helen said going into the kitchen. The started to walk passed the table and noticed us sitting together. "Uh...Conner who's this? Hello I'm Bryce his cute older brother." He said putting his hand out.

"It's nice to meet you, I'm Olivia Conner's girlfriend." I said smiling. "Dang bro, nice work." Said his other brother slapping him on the arm. "I'm Seth, nice to meet you." He said going into the laundry room. "See this is what i meant." Conner said once they were gone. I giggled. "They seem nice." I shrugged. "No, no they are just...outspoken?" He asked.

"Well that's okay. Good for them." I smiled. He shook his head going back to his homework. I finally finished the last of my homework putting everything back into my bag. The front door opened again and Conner's dad walked in. "Oh! Conner! This must be the lovely lady we've heard so much about! Olivia right? I'm John. It's nice to meet you." He said. "You as well." I said sitting back down. He walked into the kitchen to speak with his wife.

"Well how ya holding up?" He grinned. "Good, but you know you have to meet my mom next." I said. He groaned. "Megan's mom loved me. I was worried if i broke her heart that she would hate me. I don't know why i thought it mattered. I did break her heart and who knows maybe she is mad at me but at this point...it doesn't matter." He said. "Are you worried my mom is going to love you? And that you'll break my heart?" I asked raising an eyebrow.

"Wha? No, no of course not. I don't plan on breaking your heart." He said. "You also didn't plan on breaking Megan's heart." I said quietly looking down. "Hey, look. I guess that's life." He said. "But is it? At some point you have to make a commitment to somebody and say we will be together forever. We won't break up. I won't break your heart." I said. "Like marriage?" He asked.

I giggled. "I guess so, I'm not saying we should get married. And I'm not saying you should give me your full commitment we just started dating." I said. "I understand that, but with Megan. I could have stayed with her and been miserable. I was just saying sometimes relationships don't work out. If we had been married then i would have tried harder. But at the end of the day the person she was/is just wasn't the right person for me." He said.

"Right, well that's good." I said. "And i like you. I do, i think we aren't going to have any issues. So I'm ready to meet your mom." He said. "You're gonna get off lucky. She'll be at the game to see me dance on Friday. I'll introduce you to her then." I said. "Oh, well that works for me." He grinned.

Helen brought in plates piled high with spaghetti and some bread. John, Bryce and Seth came in with forks and Cups. John was holding a jug of sweet tea. Once everything was passed out and John had said a blessing over the food we dug in. "So how did you guys meet?" Helen asked looking from me to Conner. "At our wedding actually. We got paired up to do a school project." I said. "I was a doctor and she was a nurse. We had to plan out problems and fights and stuff. To show that being married is tough." He said.

"Oh i think that's wonderful, what class is this?" His dad asked. "Life skills." Conner said. "Oh, so it's a girly class." Bryce snickered. "Knock that off. I think it's great they teach you all the things you'll need to know." Said John glaring at Bryce. "I agree, do they teach you how to wash laundry?" Helen asked looking at her two older sons. "Oh i don't know." Conner shrugged. "Why are you taking a life skills class though?" Seth asked looking at the two of us.

"Well i took it because for the longest time i did the whole modeling thing and i didn't get a lot of life skills. And i don't really feel like i know what I'm doing. I thought I did, but it wasn't regular life I guess." I shrugged. "I took it, because of Megan." Conner shrugged. "Can i just say now that you aren't dating her anymore. I couldn't stand her!" Seth said. "I know right, what a pill." Said Bryce. I snickered quietly.  "This spaghetti is delicious." I said changing the subject. I know I didn't owe Megan anything. I mean yes I kind of did steal her boyfriend.  I mean not really. I don't know. If I had never shown up they'd probably still be together.

We finished the pasta and I got up to help clear the plates. "Oh you don't have to do that you're the guest." Helen said. "I don't mind really." "Well thank you that is sweet of you." She said smiling. We dumped the dishes in the sink and ran some water on them. "Care to help me with dessert?" She asked. "I would like that." I nodded. "You seem to make my son happy, I haven't seen him that way in a long time. Thank you." "He makes me happy to." I smiled.

We scooped the ice cream into bowls and carried them into the dining room. When we were done I thanked them for the wonderful evening and Conner walked me outside. "Wow, okay so that was actually pretty pleasant." He said. "Shouldn't it have been?" I asked leaning against the door to my moms car. "Oh for sure. It's just, I don't know what I was expecting." "I do, and I'm not her. At some point you have to stop comparing me to her. This is why I thought you should take some time before we started this." I sighed. He pulled my arms around his waist. "We've already started this, and there's no way I'm going to let you go." He said looking down at me.

"But are you sure you're ready?" I asked. "More ready than I've been for anything in a long time. But if you're not ready then..." "Then?" "Then I guess we just go back to being friends for now. We do things that friends do." "Okay." I grinned enjoying to see him squirm. "Like what." "Uh friends hug." He nodded. He pulled me to him. "Oh you smell good." He pulled back. "Nope, no. Friends...high five." He put his hand up and i smacked mine against his. He held it intwining his fingers through mine.

He sighed. "Honestly? I'm gonna have a little trouble just being your friend. You are so incredibly amazing. But you know I'd do anything for you right?" "I do know that. I just wanted to make sure you were really ready." "So you were teasing me, okay. I see." He bit his lip. "Two can play that game. He took a step back and pulled his shirt over his head. "Hey no, that's no fair!" "What's not fair? I just thought I'd kiss you good bye." He said stepping closer to me. I wanted to reach out for him. "But oh wait, were teasing each other now. So I guess i was teasing too."

My moms car was parked on the side of the house. They had a tall fence separating them from there neighbors and they had bushes blocking the street. "Two can play that game." I said mocking him. I pulled my shirt off. "So now what?" "Oh that's just dirty." His eyes traveled my body. "See? It's not nice now is it?" "No, it's not but you started it." He said. "Yea well you were the first to take your shirt off." "Yea and now I'm wondering how far I can take this...." "No, and no." I pulled my shirt back on. "Hey wait it was just getting to the good part." "Yea and your parents are right inside." I hissed. "Fine, for now." "I took a deep breath. "Look I am sorry, I wasn't trying to tease. I just honestly wanted to know what you would say." I shrugged.

"Okay, I guess I can understand that." He said as the sun started to dip lower in the sky. "It's getting late I should go. But I was thinking we could go shopping for our costumes after the game on Friday. Maybe invite Joel and Lucy to dinner first?" "That would be great, I rather like Joel and Lucy is great. It'd be great to get to know them better." Said Conner.

"I'm so glad." "I'll see you at school tomorrow." He said leaning in. I pressed my hand against his chest. Ooh football. I kissed him for a bit then pulled back. "You okay?" He asked chuckling. "Yep, so good." I flushed. He grinned. "I'll see you pretty girl." I waved and got into my moms car. I'd had to borrow it a few times to get to and from practice. She offered to pick me up on days I had practices but I didn't get to do much driving.  I headed home smiling.
