Chapter 7: Kakamoras' Revenge
"Wow, I'm glad that we picked this much of nectarines! Oh, our villagers are gonna love it!" Moana was excited to go back. Unlike any other times, Maui sat peacefully as Moana sailed. "Maui, you seem very quiet. Are you already tired?"
"I just don't feel like being aggressively excited just now." He said rather calmly. Then he lied on his stomach.
"It's like the time when the ocean stuck a blow darts on you." Moana chuckled.
"Please don't remind me of that," Maui said as his face was down to the ocean. "That wasn't fun."
"Well, what do you want to do while we go back?" Moana plopped down next to him.
"Just sit down and meditate, or just sleep," Maui said. "Something that everyone likes to do."
"I think I'll just sail." She tightened the sail to make it go faster. She hummed excitedly. Then she opened her mouth a little bit and quietly sang, "See the light where the sky meets the sea it calls me... no one knows... how far it goes..." As she sang, Maui playfully made retching sounds. Offended, Moana slowly and quietly walked up to him. While his face was down, Moana smacked him on the head slightly.
"Ow! Hey!" Maui rose as he lifted his head up.
"You deserved it," Moana said, looking front.
On Maui's shoulder, Mini Maui snickered. He flicked Mini Maui to the other side of the arm. "So, chief of Motunui, are we gonna visit more islands after we drop the nectarines?" Maui said, facing down again.
"Hmm, I don't know. We can try." Moana switched the direction.
Then all of a sudden, a spear struck the pole. It was a familiar spear. "Kakamora!" Moana gasped. Maui stood up quickly and looked up. The ships were larger than usual that they gave a shade that covered them full. They surrounded Moana and Maui before they tried to find an opening to escape. They beat their drums hard, blew on the conch loud, and cried with full of war spirit as they all surrounded their target for revenge. Pua was startled. Heihei stayed in the storage.
"Oh no, they're back!" Moana's eyes widened.
"Wonder what they're here for." Maui said, a little bit sarcastically.
"Re-revenge?" Moana shuddered.
"Bingo!" Maui exclaimed more playfully and sarcastically.
"Maui! We got no time for jokes right now! This is serious!" Moana yelled with much fear in her voice.
"Only thing we have to do is fight them," Maui said confidently, "then we sink their boat, then we get an opening, and then we'll escape!"
Then she struggled again. There were more than last time, and the boats looked sturdier. "How did they rebuild their boat in such short amount of time? It's even bigger than before! It would take almost half-year to make it that big!"
"Don't know," Maui said, rather calmly.
"Oh, what're we gonna do?!" Moana panicked.
"We'll be fine, Curly! Just take them down and turn the boat when we get an opening!" Maui tried to calm her down with vague advice.
"We got this, right? Maui? Now you have the fishhook?" Moana asked.
Without answering, Maui screamed, "Cheeeehoooo!" and transformed into a shark, and jumped into the ocean, leaving Moana behind.
"Wait! Maui! Wait about me?!" Maui swam until he was out of her sight. She grunted and grabbed her oar and took her stand to get ready for incoming blow darts. As one of their ships came closer to Moana, she hopped on the boat. As soon as all the Kakamoras turned to her, she smirked and beat her way through. She dodged all the blow darts and some hit the other Kakamoras. She needed to find a way to make an opening for her boat. But how can she? She had no choice in the beginning but bat all the evil, furious coconuts who wanted revenge from last time.
Then she heard squealing from behind. Pua was calling out for her as he was being taken away by Kakamoras. "No! Pua!" She ran towards Pua, who was squealing in fear as it was being carried away by the evil coconuts.
Then in the other side, she saw another Kakamora carrying Heihei with its right hand. "Heihei! Hey! Give my animal friends back!" There was no way Kakamoras were gonna listen to her after she and Maui destroyed their ship. She angrily grunted and smashed and beat her way through. Anger and fear of Pua and Heihei being taken away from her dominated her mind. Then she thought quickly as she calmed herself down. Alright... first of all Pua is closer. If I get Pua, I would be in a closer distance to HeiHei. I just need to act quick!
She ran towards the direction where Pua was being taken away. She swung her oar and slammed all the Kakamoras that were in the way. When she felt that the timing was good, she jumped and leaped forward to grab Pua, and fell into the ocean. In the water, one of the Kakamora was still clinging onto Pua. She hurled it's head with her fist and it fainted for a moment. She swam back up to her boat and looked around to find Heihei. One Kakamora was grabbing Heihei by its neck that Heihei couldn't breathe so easily. Moana became furious by their treatment towards Heihei. "You are so dead!" She screamed furiously and grabbed a spare rope that she had for emergency and tied Pua to her. Then she hopped on the large boat again and headed towards Heihei.
She acted faster when she saw some Kakamoras being prepared with their swords and spears to make sacrifices. She grabbed the spear with a rope attached to it on the side and threw it towards the direction where Heihei was. She meant to hit the pole so that she can use the rope and the oar as cable to slide towards Heihei, but she accidently hit the one of the Kakamora. She froze as the Kakamora she struck fall as he lost its conscious. All the Kakamoras turned to her direction. The one carrying Heihei threw him into the water and led the rest of the Kakamoras to capture her as they changed what to sacrifice. She quickly dived into the water before the Kakamoras were able to blow darts at her. Heihei's feet were above the surface she quickly grabbed it, and swam quickly as she can to her boat.
Before she was able to reach her boat, a huge tidal wave suddenly struck all the boats, including hers. The tidal wave also pushed her head back into the water. She quickly got out of the water and let out a deep gasp, violent cough, and large volume of water to catch her breath and maintain her normal breathing pattern. Moana and Pua breathed hard and coughed out some water and tried to find her boat. Thankfully, ocean picked her up and had her board on the boat. Then the shark thrusted the water, transformed, and hopped onto the deck of the boat.
"So, how was the wave?" Maui asked as he boarded on the boat. Moana frowned as she lifted one of her eyebrow. "Hey, don't look at me like that, see?" He smiled awkwardly and pointed at the open area. "I made an opening for you." Moana smiled and tightened the boat again.
"You're lucky they didn't kill anyone of us." Moana said as she squeezed that water out of her hair. Then she remembered something. "By the way, how did you make a wave so big? Even when you turned into a whale, the wave wasn't that his and strong."
"Easy. I picked a boulder, put it on my side, and then turned into a whale from a distance. You see, more weight, higher and stronger the waves are." Maui explained with pride. "And then I threw the boulder at one of the Kakamora's ship so that I can make an opening. But that wasn't necessary."
"Clever," Moana complimented as she started to sail through the opening. "Never knew you can be this smart."
"Is that a compliment?" Maui asked proudly.
"Yes, sure. And I'm sorry that I misunderstood you earlier," Moana apologized. "I really thought you ditched all of us and ran away."
"It's fine. By the way, Curly, I'm hungry. Got any food?" Maui asked.
"I brought some bananas and coconuts, I think." She opened the storage, only to see it was empty. "The nectarines!" She looked inside her storage. They were all gone. "Ugh, it looks like Kakamoras stole them all, even all the food I carried for emergencies!" She grunted as she closed her storage.
"I'll get them. You stay right here," Maui said as he stood up.
"But, Maui," before Moana was able to stop him, Maui transformed into the hawk and flew all the way my to the island. Moana stopped the boat to wait. She made Heihei stay in the storage. Heihei walked to the side until he bumped into it. Then walked to the other side only to bump into it and change direction again Pua kept looking at Heihei as if he was weird. Heihei kept walking forward, bumped on the edge, turned the other way, and repeated the same steps. As this continued, Pua sighed and shook his head. Heihei started to peck the floor.
"Heihei must be hungry. Only if it wasn't Kakamora there'd be some grains." Then Pua frowned as his stomach growled. He looked up at her as he covered his face with sorrow. "We'll get you something to eat, Pua." Then her stomach growled. "I'm fine." She sighed as she held her stomach. She dipped her feet in the ocean and looked down as she waited for Maui to come back. Few moments later, Maui came back with a bushel of banana, basket of coconuts, basket of nectarines, another basket of other unknown fruit, and a petal of flower. As he landed, he dropped all the stuff carefully. "Here are your nectarines," Maui said as he handed them to her, "they're coconuts for emergencies," he said as he put the basket of coconuts in the storage. "Everything seen this?" Maui asked as he held up a pineapple. He brought few more.
She put the baskets of nectarines in the storage and examined the pineapple closely and carefully. "No, never seen it."
"It's called pineapple." He opened up the pineapple and ripped out a piece of it. "Try it, it's delicious."
Moana took a bite. It was very sweet and was completely different from other fruits that she grew in her island. "Wow, that's really good!"
"And I got more to plant in your island." Maui handed her the basket.
"Thanks, and how did you get the baskets?" Moana asked as she put the basket of pineapples in the storage.
"I made it with leaves. Those pineapples were so big that it took such a long time to make the basket so big like that. That's why I took a little longer." Maui confessed.
"It's fine," Moana smiled.
"And this is for you," he said as he placed the flower under her hair and above the earlobe. Moana giggled. "It reminded me of you. When I first tried to pick it because it was beautiful, but it was pretty strong that I had to use my fishhook to cut the vine. Beautiful and strong, just like you."
Moana hugged him. "Thank you, Maui, for making us feel better."
"You're welcome." He stroke her head lovingly.
