Chapter 37: Changing Plans
A/N: Forgive me, I had major writer's block, anxiety by finals, and all those things that every university students go through.
When Maui went back under water, he saw no signs of the octopus. It must've swam away... Maui thought as he groaned. He looked everywhere in the ocean. He did not catch even a glimpse of any silhouette of an octopus, or any sea creatures with tentacles. Darn it! If I was fast enough!

"Here you go, cheer up," Moana said as she handed a cloth to help a woman calm down after being devastated by her destroyed home.
"Th-thank yo-ou," the woman blubbered as she took the cloth.
As soon as she paid enough attention to other people, she took a look at the map again. "Oh what...?" Moana asked herself, confused, as she saw the mark on the creature moving away from the island. "Oh no... Maui is gonna have a hard time." As soon as she finished her sentence, she saw the mark of the monster coming back to the island. She felt danger approaching and grabbed her oar.
"Is something wrong?" Kumu asked.
"Let's gather people and move them to the safer place," Moana said as she stayed on guard and prepared for danger. Pua stayed behind her with fear. Heihei stayed behind Pua mindlessly.
"Everyone, let's move," Kumu ordered people. Every villagers helped each other stand up and gather around. "Which direction should we evacuate to?" Moana pointed towards her left, where she believed was safe. Kumu quickly yet calmly let people towards the direction where Moana pointed.
She saw something rise up from the ocean. I knew it! Moana thought. She grabbed Pua, Heihei, and her oar, and quickly shifted towards her left.
Surely, the tentacles thrusted through the land with a large crashing sound. Villagers screamed in horror as Kumu tried to calm them down. Moana made sure that no one was hurt and struck the tentacle as hard as she could. Normally, when the tentacle is hit, they would squirm in pain. Why would they break...? Moana wondered as she kept attacking the tentacle. The suction cups shattered into pieces.
"RAAAH!!" Moana's attention turned to Kumu, who had a large stone mallet and attacked the tentacles. "Try using this!" Kumu suggested as he tossed the stone axe to Moana.
"Thank you!" Moana said as she caught it with her right hand. With the size and the weight of the stone axe, Moana was able to swing it much faster and stronger. When she got rid of almost all the suction cups and reached the tentacle that was near the beach, she was able to see something on the tentacle. Something small. Yellow circle with a red dot in a center and a purple dot in a center of the red dot. She struck that spot as strong as she could. It started to squirm aggressively. Even though it was muffled, she was able to hear it scream in pain through the tides.
When Maui reached the octopus creature, he slapped the charm on the suction cups, but it did not work. Wait, what...? Maui was confused. It was definitely this creature that was marked on the seal. Then it started squirming its tentacles back and forth violently, because Moana just attacked its pressure point on its tentacle, that one of it slapped him in the face.
He quickly went up to the surface and sat on the beach to rub his face slightly to ease the stinging pain.
"Maui!" Moana said as she ran up to him.
"That one got me in the face good!" Maui complained.
"Listen, Maui," Moana started. "I think I just attacked its pressure point or something. It was a yellow circle with a red dot in a center, and a purple dot in a center of the red dot. It seemed to be in great pain when I struck it."
"Is that why this thing was acting crazy?" Maui asked.
"Probably," Moana said.
"Plus, when I tried to put the charm on it, it didn't work," Maui said.
"Kumu, may I ask you something?" Moana asked as she turned her head towards him.
"What is it?" Kumu asked.
"Since when did this happen?" Moana asked. "I mean the island changing, this coral, which is really a weird monster, destroying houses."
"Not so long ago," Kumu said. "It has probably been few weeks or so."
"So this monster must be one of them," Moana said. "But why isn't it working?"
"It's probably disguised as something else," Maui said. "Just like what happened in Uhanai."
"That must be it," Moana said. "We should strike his pressure point. But you can only see it after destroying some suction cups."
"I can take care of this," Maui said. "Just give me ten minutes." He transformed into a shark as he dived into the ocean.
"Wh-what did I just see?!" Kumu asked.
"He is a demigod," Moana said. "Thinking about it, we didn't officially introduce ourselves to you people. My name is Moana, chief of Motunui, and that was Maui, demigod of the wind and sea."
"Moana and Maui!" Kumu said. "I heard some amazing stories about you two. You two saved the world from dying nature."
"Oh, the hero of everyone!" One male villager remarked.
"What are you two doing here?" One female villager asked.
"To save the world, again," Moana said. "From the poor creatures created by Kapu'uila."
"Kapu'uila? The lightning god?" Kumu asked. "What does he has to do with anything?"
"We're not sure of the answer yet," Moana said. "But we need to stop the creatures and settle things with Kapu'uila as fast as possible. Enough said, do you guys have anything else that I can help with? Ask me anything."

Maui easily shattered every single suction cup that the giant octopus had, however, because of the bubbles that formed due to the rapid movement of the tentacles, he was not able to see the pressure point that Moana talked about. When he managed to find one, he swam quickly and bit the pressure point as hard as he can. The creature screamed in pain as it flattered it's tentacles violently. One slapped Maui in the face. It was painful, but he swam more to find the pressure points. With a pain on his cheek, Maui became even more furious that he was going to capture him no matter what. He squinted his eyes to get a better vision. He quickly bit into one, then another, and then another, and then another, until finally, he finally bit every eight pressure points. The octopus-looking creature's body started to solidify and break into pieces, and out popped a mini octopus. The one that looked even more accurate and the charm. The octopus immediately sensed danger and swam away. Maui swam after it.

Moana picked the edible plants, sliced them, poured the coconut water and some grains into a pot, and started to cook them. When it was done, she mixed the edible plants, scooped up a handful, put it on each coconut shell or banana leaves, and distributed it to everyone.
"There are plenty of more edible plants, grains, and coconut water," Moana said. "With this recipe and how much there are left, you will be able to feed all the villagers for the next several days. And I noticed some signs of other things around this island. Maybe if you explore, then you may be able to find something to eat."
"You really didn't have to help us like this," Kumu said.
"Nonsense," Moana said. "I love helping people, even if it's not my village."
Then they both noticed a silhouette of Maui walking towards them. He looked... exhausted.
"Is he okay...?" Kumu asked.
"I hope so..." Moana said.
Maui returned, with his mouth filled with something.
"Maui...? Are you all right...?" Moana asked.
Instead of answering, Maui spit out the octopus creature and fell backwards.
"Oh my goodness! Maui!" Kumu ran up to him. "Are you all right?! Moana! We got to help him!" When he turned to Moana, he was expressionless when Moana calmly walked up to the octopus creature, placed a charm on it, and put the charms back into her pocket without giving Maui a single glance.
"Come on, Maui," Moana said. "Let's go, we have more adventures ahead of us." She walked towards where their boat was docked with Heihei in her arms, and Pua following after her.
"Uh... what...?" Kumu asked himself.
"Oh yeah," Moana turned to Kumu. "Bye, Kumu! I hope you and your villagers are safe from anything from now on!" Moana bid farewell and continued to the boat.
Maui let out his inaudible voice through his mouth.
"What was that?" Kumu asked.
"That's what happens... if you're in a relationship... for a while..." Maui said.
Kumu couldn't say anything. His face was expressionless once more.
After some time, Moana was well-prepared to leave the island as Maui returned.
"There you are! I was worried about you!" Moana said.
"You weren't worried about me when I nearly fainted?" Maui asked. Moana didn't answer.
Every villagers came up to Moana to bid last farewell. They were holding a pile of pieces of cloth. "These blankets are for you. In case it gets cold during the journey." They answered.
"Thank you," Moana said as she received the pile of blankets. When they started to sail out of the beach, they waved back at the villagers until they couldn't see them anymore.
"Uggh..." Maui lied down out of exhaustion.
"Why don't you get some rest?" Moana asked. "I can handle from here to the next island. Plus, after playing in the water, you must've been very tired."
"Thanks..." Maui replied softly and drifted to sleep. He was too tired to insist that he was not playing in the water, but capturing the quick octopus monster.
"Let's see... next island..." Moana said to herself as she studied the map. "A volcano island named 'Puimotu'... mmm... volcano... still cannot forget that moment... I wonder if Nana is doing fine with her village." Moana wondered. Nana was doing fine. In fact, everyone continued to respect her and admire her leadership. Of course, she would never forget Moana and Maui, and what they did for her.
"Well, I guess, Puimotu is next..." Moana decided. "All right! Next stop, Puimotu!" She pulled the sail so that it can change direction towards Puimotu. Moana felt that she needed a snack, so she took out a banana and an apple, and snacked. While she was chewing she heard a voice.
"Kid, that's not fair," Maui said. "Having a snack without me."
"I thought you were asleep," Moana said.
"Not anymore," Maui said. "I want some."
Moana snickered as she picked another banana and apple, and tossed them to him. Maui devoured the banana and apple before Moana was able to finish hers, then he fell back asleep, and started to snore. Moana slowly shook her head with a warm smile across her face. She peeled another banana and fed it to Pua.
It was then, when Moana heard a loud gust of wind. There was a tornado coming near them. Moana gasped in fear, her mind was full of finding a way to escape, so she turned the boat around. Before she was able sail away from the tornado, the whole boat was sucked up by the tornado.
She doesn't remember anything after that.
When she woke up, her boat was docked in some island. When she looked around, it looked very familiar. "Motunui...?" She asked herself. Then suddenly, the houses and forest were being destroyed by some monster.
"MOANA!" Her mother's desperate scream came from the forest.
"Mom...?" Moana asked herself.
"MOANA!" Her father's desperate scream echoed from the forest.
"Dad...?!" Moana asked herself again.
"HELP!" Her parents came out from the forest, running away from something, but they were caught by a large, atrocious-looking hands.
"MOM! DAD!" Moana screamed. Her feet couldn't move for some reason.
"MOANA!" Their screams were more desperate than ever.
Moana woke up with a large gasp. She was docked on the island. "Where are we...?" Moana asked herself. "Maui! Maui! Wake up!" Moana crawled towards Maui and shook him.
"We're here already?" Maui asked as he yawned and rubbed his eyes.
"I think we ended up on a different island," Moana said.
"How?" Maui asked.
"A tornado carried us somewhere else," Moana answered.
"So where are we...?" Maui asked.
"That's what I want to know," Moana asked as she handed the map to him.
Maui studied the map. Then he examined the island. "I have no idea..."
"Let's just look around..." Moana said. "We should do whatever it takes to find an answer in this island."
