Chapter 20: Giant Eel vs Giant Hawk
A/N: This chapter may be even more violent compared to other chapters as there are much more description with blood and cuts. I apologize in advance.
"You let go of Pua and Heihei right now!" Moana demanded furiously. The giant eel shrieked to intimidate her. But she made a warrior face to intimidate the giant eel. It did flinch, but it still didn't let go of Pua and Heihei.
Maui proudly looked at Moana making warrior face at the giant eel. He then transformed into a giant hawk and pecked the tail so that it can let go of Pua and Heihei. Pua was still squealing for help. Heihei was just there, trapped, just cluelessly looking around. The giant eel tried to bit Maui, but he is much faster than giant eel. Maui stuck its hawk tongue out to taunt and insult the giant eel.
Moana wondered how to attack the giant eel now that her spear is gone. She looked around the boat to see which one she can use as a weapon. She found the oar that Maui signed, and she used all the time. I gotta try, at least for Pua and Heihei! She quickly grabbed the oar and struck its body with full force. Since the wood was so sturdy, it didn't break, thankfully. It hurt the eel, but not enough to make the eel furious.
Maui was still trying to get its attention by pecking around it. He even smashed its head with his wings. But, the giant eel doesn't seem to be too affected by their attacks. Moana heavily panted after repeatedly hitting the giant eel with her oar. Maui transformed back into a human form as he landed next to Moana. "Moana, is that thing part of those... charms?"
"Oh shoot, forgot to check," Moana quickly skimmed through the charms. "No... it's not one of them."
"Well, I think I recognize that thing somewhere," Maui said. "Wait... hey! You are that other monster who was after Te Fiti's heart, aren't you?!" Maui demanded to the eel. The giant eel hissed angrily at Maui. "So you are... kid, that thing knows that I once stole Te Fiti's heart."
"Oh, it should have some weak spots!" Moana said. The giant eel hissed at Moana, Moana roared at the giant eel with the warrior face. It flinched again. She quickly went to the tail to get Pua and Heihei, but it decided to make it harder for Moana and dip its part of the tail that trapped Pua and Heihei. Moana jumped into the water to save Pua and Heihei. The giant eel even dived in even deeper. Moana held her breath in and swam deeper to try saving her animal friends.
Moana was able to reach its tail and tried to pull out Pua and Heihei together. Thankfully, Heihei was able to slip out easily and be free from the grasp, and float to the surface with its feet sticking out, making it easier for Maui to catch him. However, Pua was still there, trapped by the giant eel's tight grasp. While Maui picked up Heihei and brought him back to the boat, Moana and Pua were still struggling to free from the tail. Moana bit the tail part, which made the giant eel squirm in pain as her bite was deep enough to make a mark and creating a wound with her teeth, which eventually made the eel loosen up and let go of Pua. Moana quickly grabbed Pua and started to swim up, and saw Maui, who also dived in to look for her.
Moana came up to the surface as she let out a deep breath and placed Pua in a boat. She panted heavily to try to catch her breath after holding it for more than twenty seconds.
"Kid, that was too dangerous," Maui said as he listened to her breathing pattern. "You should take it easy."
"Well, I gotta do what I gotta do," Moana said. "They could've died without me."
As she was trying to catch her breath, the tail wrapped around Moana, making her gasp out a lot of air out of her lungs, and dived in much deeper than it did with Pua and Heihei. "Moana!" Maui yelped in surprise as he dived in after the giant eel and Moana. Moana struggled to free from it, but then the tail tightened harder, making Moana open her mouth and letting the last bubble of air out of her lungs. She was no longer able to hold her breath. Water started to rush into her lungs. She started to lose her conscious as she was not able to breathe. Her arms stretched out to the surface of the water where the rays of sunlight peeked through, and her eyes started to close as there was a large, black silhouette that was coming closer to her, covering many rays of sunlight that entered the ocean.
The black silhouette was actually Maui, who transformed into a shark, bit the tail off. He bit so hard and deep that the part of the tail was detached from the body. By the time, Moana was unconscious, and Maui quickly grabbed her and went to the surface and had Moana lie down on the boat. Maui shook her just in case she wakes up. "Kid, wake up! Princess! Chief!" But Moana didn't wake up. Maui performed CPR, pushed her on the stomach hard, and repeated the steps until he was able to wake her up. She coughed out bunch of water as soon as she woke up. Maui even patted her on the back to make her cough out a lot of water from her lungs. "There, there, let it all out, chief."
"Ugh... ugh..." Moana groaned as she let out every drop of salt water out of her lungs and mouth. "Oh man... that... was... uggh..."
"Don't speak, stay here," Maui said. He tied his hair into a bun. "You dare hurt my princess like that, you are SO DEAD!" Maui was so furious he wanted that thing dead already.
"Maui... wait..." Moana said weakly, but Maui couldn't hear Moana with all the anger, rage, fury, resentment, and hate.
The giant eel hissed violently and aggressively as it came above the surface.
"AAAAAHHHHHHH!" Maui yelled as he jumped to its mouth and struck its jaw with his fishhook. Majority of its teeth fell out and rained down from its mouth. It wrapped Maui with its tongue, but Maui sliced the tongue so he was able to release himself from the giant eel. Maui was very determined to kill the giant eel, mainly because it tried to kill Moana.
The giant eel panted angrily as stream of blood was raining down from its mouth and rushing out through the part where the tail was chopped off. Maui and the giant eel looked at each other with angry faces. Maui transformed into a giant hawk again to fly around him to find an opening to attack.
Moana was still feeling weak as she was still dizzy with lack of oxygen in her brain. She noticed some of its teeth floating around the ocean. She reached for it to pick them up and collect them, trying to figure out what to do with them. The teeth were very sharp and pointy. If she pressed her finger against the point harder, the teeth would impale her skin, maybe her muscles, maybe even through the bone and nail, making a huge hole on her finger. She knew just what to do, she just had to find a right time.
Maui and the giant eel were still struggling against each other. Just because the end of the tail was cut off, that doesn't mean it wasn't able to attack. It smacked Maui right in the face with the lower part of its body with full force. Even though Maui was so injured that his beak was bleeding and forehead was scratched up, he was also find an opening and smack the upper jaw with his wings, making rest of its teeth fall out of its mouth and more streams of blood raining down from its toothless jaw. Maui's beak and forehead were sore. The giant eel leaped forward to to bite Maui, and Maui tried to charge towards the giant eel. They both missed as they were both exhausted by the damage they already received.
The giant eel dived in to avoid Maui and Maui decided to rest on the boat with Moana. "Ugrh! That thing really gave me some hits!" Maui grunted in pain as he transformed back into human form.
"Are you okay, Maui?" Moana asked as she examined his wounds. "Oh my, they all look bad! Hold on, I think I have some ointment." She reached for the ointment in the boat's storage and applied some on him.
"By the way, chief," Maui said as Moana spread some ointment on his wounds and bruises. "What those sharp things you got there?"
"I think they're teeth from the eel," Moana answered. "It was floating around as you were fighting it. I even noticed that the eel didn't have teeth earlier. So I figured you knocked them out."
"Yeah, I guess so- OW! Easy there, kid! It stings!" Maui screamed in pain.
"Oh! Sorry!" Moana said. "I'm almost done. Hold on, just one last touch." After determining that he is applied with enough ointment, she wrapped herbal leaves around the wounds and bruises. "There, all done."
"Oh, this battle is going to be even worse," Maui said. "It won't fall that easily!"
"Maybe I can use his teeth against him," Moana said as she held them up. "They look pretty sharp and pointy. I'm sure we can attack him by using these."
"Well, it's worth a try, but how?" Maui asked.
"I think I have just a thing," Moana said. "Although neither of us would like the plan anyways."
The giant eel tried to relieve the pain of its wounds. It couldn't heal fast enough, but it was able to at least ignore some of the pain as some of its wounds stopped bleeding. Now that its teeth was gone, it would have to rely on its jaw in case it needs to bite either Moana or Maui. The giant eel reached its maximum anger that it was determined to kill Moana and Maui no matter what happens.
It reached back up above the surface to fight with Maui once more. When it saw the boat, neither Moana and Maui were there. It looked around cautiously to see if Moana and Maui was after it. North, south, east, west, nothing. Maybe hiding under water? It checked. Moana and Maui were nowhere to be found under the water. It went back up to the surface to look up at the sky. When it looked up, it was already too late. Moana, teeth on both of her fist, landed on its face and stabbed its eyes.
"SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRR! SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRR!" The giant eel shrieked as it violently swung its head in heavy pain.
"Whoa!" Moana maintained her balance and was able to hang on to the eel as she stabbed the teeth on to the stomach. The teeth that stabbed the stomach impaled down, leaving an extremely deep cut on its stomach. However, Moana wasn't able to hang on to the teeth for so long, she eventually slipped and fell into the water.
Maui quickly transformed into a shark and dived in to save Moana, knowing that she doesn't have much energy to swim. He quickly took her to the boat. After letting her rest on the boat, Maui jumped towards the giant eel to give it a last touch. On the stomach part where Moana cut deep, he sliced it open, cutting the giant eel into two parts. Maui quickly looked away and went back on the boat, loosed the boat from the plate that led to Reigna, and sailed away.
"Moana, no matter what you do, do NOT look at the eel we just murdered," Maui suggested.
"Uh..." Moana mumbled. "Too late... Maui..."
"What?" Maui asked in surprised.
"Forever stuck in my head..." Moana said.
"Are you feeling okay?" Maui asked. "That was an atrocious sight."
"I think I'm fine," Moana said. "I just feel really bad for the eel."
"Wait, what? Why? Why would you feel bad for something that almost killed all four of us?" Maui asked.
"I don't know why, maybe all living things have a family," Moana said. She looked towards the direction where they defeated the giant eel. She folded her hands and closed her eyes. "May you rest in peace, and become a good creature in your next life," Moana prayed passionately. Maui smirked by her sweet action. Pua and Heihei were already asleep after all the things they went through today.
