Chapter 16: Deserted Island (Part II)

Moana gently yet bravely paced her feet outside the cave. The harsh, scorching sunlight was blazing violently that Moana's skin felt hot already. "Hey!" Moana screamed. "You don't scare me! Come and get me! Take all my energy! Have all you want! I bet you can't take it all away if you cower near the sun! Loser! Come and get me!"

Maui watched Moana in the cave from a distance. As Moana taunted Ladaimonio even more, the sunlight slowly began to fade to its normal level. I knew it, Maui thought as he watched Ladaimonio slowly went down to the sandy, golden earth.

So that's how he looks like, Moana thought. Ladaimonio had a really small, short, and ellipsoid body, extremely flat, feathery, and large wings, and was bright and yellow throughout, just like the sun. In fact, he was too bright that his eyes, nose, and lips were invisible, but it was still obvious to Moana that Ladaimonio was angry. No more than angry. Furious. Maybe more than furious. It raised its elegant yet intimidating wings as if it was going to smack Moana. Maui quickly took action. He transformed into a giant hawk, soared quickly across the land and striked Ladaimonio with his wings. Ladaimonio flew away by the strong impact. They were able to hear Ladaimonio growling in anger. When it aggressively crawled towards Moana and Maui to attack them, Moana held up the charm with a figure that resembled Ladaimonio. It shrieked and backed away fiercely. As Moana stepped forward, Ladaimonio stepped backwards.

Moana tried to leap forward so that she can capture Ladaimonio, but then she started to feel unconscious and swooned. "Moana!" Maui screamed as he witnessed Moana fainting. He quickly ran to her, grabbed the charm and quickly placed it on Ladaimonio. He watched as Ladaimonio being sucked into the charm and the charm turned green. As the charm was locked, Maui started to hear the voice: Why me? Why do I have to be this mistreated? What did I do so wrong? All I wanted to do is help people...

"What is this voice?" Maui asked himself. "Is this the voice Moana has talked to me about? It is trying to speak its grievances." He turned to Moana and said, "Hey, Moana, I think I know what you- Moana!" Maui quickly carried her and ran into the cave. He gently placed her down. Moana was breathing heavily in pain and dehydration. "Don't worry, Moana. I'll go find some water. I'll be back." He turned to Pua and pleaded, "Hey, little piglet. Take a good look on Moana and drumsticks." Pua oinked. "I'll go find some water for you too. Be safe." He patted Pua's head, transformed into a hawk, and flew out the cave.

Maui looked around as he flew throughout the island, trying to find any trace of fresh water. Now that Ladaimonio was captured, he no longer needed to worry about his energy being drained. "Oasis... there's gotta be oasis somewhere." After quite some time of rough searching, he managed to find pure pool of fresh water with several coconut trees around. Maui smiled and glided down to pick up some coconuts for Moana, Pua, and Heihei. As he picked up a coconut, he felt even more thirsty than before. "Oh..." he moaned as he tried to ignore the temptation to drink before he gets some to Moana, Pua, and Heihei, who are still waiting in the cave, dying of thirst to wait for Maui to come get something to drink for them. "I shouldn't... no... I... shouldn't..." Maui couldn't resist. He opened a coconut and drank the water from it with a large gulp. "Ahhh... that's so refreshing!" Maui exclaimed as he wiped his mouth. "Wait a minute... I shouldn't be like this. I need to bring water for them!" Maui grabbed several more coconuts and filled up the empty coconut shell with the oasis water. He carried all of them to the cave. Moana was just sitting silently. She seemed to have no energy to move a muscle. "Hey, Moana, did I take long?"

"No..." Moana replied a little weakly.

"Here, I brought you some water," Maui handed the coconut shell full of water.

"I don't think I can hold it," Moana answered.

"He must've take so much energy out of you." Maui held the coconut shell right beside Moana's lips and slightly tilted it so that Moana can drink out of it. "There you go, Moana," he said as Moana gulped.

"Thanks, Maui," Moana said as she wiped her lips with her hand. Maui gave the rest of the water to Pua and Heihei. They dug their faces in the coconut shell until it was completely empty. Not even a single drop of water was present.

"If you need more water, I brought some more coconuts," Maui offered.

"I think we're fine for now," Moana said as she let out a sigh of relief. "In fact, I feel much better."

"That's a relief to hear," Maui said.

"By the way, how was it going out this cave? Was it all right?"

"It was fine," Maui replied. "Now that Ladaimonio is gone... oh yeah, I must say this. Remember when you said you heard some voices when you captured Hewau'i?" Moana nodded. "I heard a voice to when I captured Ladaimonio."

"You did?" Moana asked. Maui nodded. "Was he saying his grievances about something being unfair?" Maui nodded again. "What's going on?"

"I don't know anymore," Maui said as he lied down and let out a deep sigh.

"By the way, how did you know how to make Ladaimonio come to me when I taunted him?" Moana asked. "That was a pretty good plan."

"Every gods, goddesses, demigods, and demigoddesses are pretty sensitive to mortal's taunts and insults," Maui replied. "When gods are insulted, they would give misfortune to mortals who insulted them, not too harsh, but minor so that they can learn their lesson. Te Fiti's probably the most open-minded and forgiving goddess."

"I really want to meet all the gods and goddesses," Moana said. "I'm never going to insult or provoke them in anyway when I get a chance to meet them. I wouldn't risk that."

"I know you wouldn't," Maui said. "You're not that kind of mortal."

"Anyways, we gotta capture one more creature," Moana said as she grabbed her spear.

"I really can't believe you still have that," Maui said. "It really doesn't look that good."

"Oh really?" Moana asked as she spun the spear around.

"Don't play with that, you'll hurt yourself," Maui taunted.

"Then you just admitted this spear is good," Moana pointed at Maui with the blade side of the spear. Maui didn't flinch. He just smiled as he looked at the blade, and then up at Moana, then he let out a slight chuckle. "So brave."

"Looks like you're rested enough," Maui said as he stood up with his hook. "Ready to capture the last one?"

"Yes I am," Moana replied as she spun her spear one last time and stuck it in the sand.

"You sure make yourself appear confident every time," Maui said. Moana let out a slight giggle as she agreed.

When they all stepped out, they felt rather relaxed. The sun was not too bright, the sand was not too hot, and the fine breeze cooled them down. "Ahh, I really missed this breeze. It feels so nice!"

"It is still hot though, after being in that cave for so long," Maui said as he tied his hair into a bun. "That feels much better now."

"You know, you look really handsome when you tie your hair into a bun," Moana said as she thought about other times when Maui put his hair up into a bun.

"Aren't I always handsome?" Maui asked with a smirk on his face.

"This is why I should never compliment you," Moana rolled her eyes.

"Nah, you can keep doing it," Maui said. "At least I accept your compliments."

Moana didn't say anymore. She gave out a slight snicker and moved on.

Maui couldn't stop thinking about Moana calling him handsome. Usually, when people call him handsome, he just takes it as a compliment. But when Moana says it, it's a lot more meaningful than just a compliment.

Moana, Maui, Pua, and Heihei were walking for hours now. They were still not able to find any monsters around this island. "I think we're just circling around here," Moana said as she fanned herself.

"Let's just keep walking," Maui said. "We'll find something."

"I want to take a little break," Moana said. "There is a coconut tree over there."

"All right, let's go," Maui said as he walked with Moana, Pua, and Heihei.

"Wait a minute," Moana squinted her eye to see the tree closely. "Maui, I don't think that's a tree. It's... moving."

"Huh?" Maui also looked at it closely. "Oh darn. Bad one, yet nice timing." Maui transformed into a hawk and glided to the moving tree. Moana also ran towards the tree as she raised her spear.

The monster had a shape of coconut tree, expanding branches, squirmy branches. It tried to smack Maui, but Maui was way faster than that monster. Moana threw the spear at the monster and the blade thrusted him right in the eye. It screamed in pain. As it struggled, it snapped the spear into pieces. "Oh darn, now I don't have a weapon," Moana, after witnessing her spear getting snapped into pieces, took out a the charm for that monster. Maui started to beat around it with its wings as he violently flew around him. Maui distracted it so much that it only focused on Maui, not noticing Moana was right under him with the charm in her hand. She slapped the charm against it, and the monster got sucked into the charm. "Well, that was pretty easy to capture. You did a nice job distracting that, Maui."

Maui landed with loud thump and splattered sand all over Moana. "Oops." He just stared at frozen Moana with sand all over her body. Maui carefully shook the sand off of her. "You... okay? Moana?"

"Well," Moana said with her eyes still closed. "Just don't do another dramatic land."

Moana, Maui, Pua, and Heihei went on the boat. Moana took out the map to see where they should head next. "The next island is... Reigna... uh-oh, I heard this place is much worse than Lalotai."

"It is," Maui said. "Much bigger, much hotter, and much more monsters."

"We have to capture 15 creatures in that place," Moana groaned.

"Don't Heihei out now Moana," Maui said and bawked. Moana, Pua, and Mini Maui looked at him confused. "Aww, come on, that was a good one! Heihei is a chicken, so if you replace that, it'll be 'Don't chicken out now Moana.' Get it? Come on, that was supposed to be a good one!" Moana, Pua, and Mini Maui looked uninterested. Moana sighed that hinted that she was frustrated with his lame pun, Pua looked at the opposite direction from Maui, and Mini Maui put his hand over his face and forehead. "You know what, forget it. You guys are no fun to be around!" He sulked as he crossed his arm and plopped down. Ignoring him, Moana prepared to sail as the whole boat was out of the sand's reach.
