Chapter 13: Possessed Pua and Heihei
Moana and Maui walked back to the camp to take a break after the intense struggle between the creature and themselves. "Pua! Where are you? I got food for you!" She looked around to find them. "Pua! Heihei! Time for breakfast!" She looked inside the cottage, behind the bushes, everywhere... she couldn't find them. "Oh, no, what are we gonna do?" She started to panic.
"All right, all right," Maui tried to calm her down. "It's all right, Moana. We'll find them. This time, let's stick together. It'll be okay." Moana nodded and they both walked around to find any trace of Pua and Heihei.
"You know, I can't see their tracks or any some sort," Moana said as she looked around and studied the ground. "I think they're kidnapped! What are we going to do? What if someone ate them? I can't lose them! They're my precious friends!" Moana started to shed tears. Maui comforted her by embracing her. "All right," she said as she slowly withdrew herself from Maui. "Thanks. Let's continue."
"All right," Maui said. "Let's go."
They went further away from their camp. Moana walked around nervously as she wiped her tears and carefully lifted every single leaf and branch to find the trace of them, hoping to find at least a single fur or single feather. "Please, please, please, please, please," Moana said under her breath. Her concern started to devour her patience every second. She was very desperate to find Pua and Heihei.
Maui couldn't help but feel bad for Moana. He realized that if he wanted her to feel better, he needed to search for Pua and Heihei. So he whispered into the woods and bushes, "Little pig? Drumsticks? Pua? Heihei?" He wanted her to know that he cares about them as much as he cares about her. Kid, they'll be fine. I promise. He thought as he looked around. He couldn't possibly say that aloud... something stopped him from doing so.
As they kept walking and searching around to find a trace of them, they heard a faint sound of squeals and squawks. "It's gotta be them!" Moana exclaimed. They followed the trails of where the sound came from. There was an open field with nothing. No grass. No tracks, Just sand. Then the squeals and the squawks stopped. Out popped Pua behind the bushes. "Oh, Pua! I was so worried about you! Come to me!" Moana kneeled and opened her arms to hug Pua. Pua ran up to her... only to tackle her hard on her stomach. She fell on her side and groaned in pain as she held her stomach. "Pua?" Moana was confused. Why would Pua attack her? Pua started to growl and looked at Maui and creep towards him as confused Maui backed up. Then Maui noticed something suspicious. His pupils were red, his teeth were sharp, and had his paws were pointy.
"Watch out for him, Moana!" Maui said. "He's possessed!"
"What?" Moana was confused. Then something started to peck her on her head. "Heihei! What's wrong with you?" Heihei's pupils were also red, his beak and feet were even sharper. Maui realized what was going on with them, and he quickly punched Heihei and Pua away, and grabbed Moana and ran away as far as he can to escape from their sight.
When they came to quiet place, Moana asked, "Maui, what do you mean by possessed?"
"There is prankster demon called Hewau'i," Maui explained. "They basically go inside some humans or animals, take over their body, and start hurting other humans, destroy the nature, and do everything that they want to do."
"So, Pua and Heihei are possessed by them?" Moana asked. Maui nodded. "Is there any way we can get the demons out?"
"Well," Maui said. "I can't say for sure but I know spiritualism can at least take the demon out."
"How do we do that?" Moana asked.
"Uhhh..." Maui thought for some time.

Pua and Heihei roamed around to look for Moana and Maui. No matter how long the looked for, they couldn't find them. Out of frustration, Pua started to scratch the trees and Heihei pecked on the ground repeatedly. Pua growled angrily at the sky, and Heihei howled at the ground. When they calmed down, they continued to look around to attack Moana and Maui.
Suddenly, something trapped Heihei. Pua ran away fast as he was startled by something that trapped Heihei. Moana and Maui jumped out with the charm, Moana help up the charm to Heihei. He started to cluck aggressively and tried to escape the cage. Moana started to chant as she held up the charm to Heihei. Heihei aggressively banged around the cage as Moana resumed her chant. Right when she was about to finish, the gray smoke looking substance started to emerge from Heihei, with two red dots on its focal points. Then it mischievously laughed as it floated away. Heihei returned normal. Empty-minded, he started to peck on the cage. Moana opened the cage and took out Heihei to hug him. "Oh, Heihei, I was so worried about you!"
"That was close, drumsticks," Maui said as he tickled its feet.
"I can't believe that really worked, Maui," Moana said. "It's so great that you recognized Hewau'i on the charm. I'm surprised."
"You thought I was gonna be wrong?" Maui asked. Moana shrugged. "Ouch."
"All right, we have to find Pua now," Moana said. "He's harder to catch since he's already too fast."
"Not faster than me," Maui smirked as he held up his fishhook. Moana snickered with a little bit of relief.

Pua stomped and growled around. He clenched its paws in anger. He sniffed around as it noticed an unusual, yet familiar smell. Pua roared and then charged towards the direction when it thought the smell came from. While running so fast, he crashed into a stone. It looked at the stone, confused. There was no stone that big, as far as he remembered. Then something snatched him and flew into the air. Pua struggled violently to free from what snatched him. Wow, this one's really strong! Maui thought as he felt Pua struggle to free itself from Maui's hawk form's claws. Why is it so strong? Even Heihei wasn't this aggressive. He thought. He quickly thrusted through the air so that he wouldn't let go of Pua, and shoved him in the cage that he and Moana built. Moana held up a charm to Pua and chanted. Pua growled and banged on the cage aggressively. He banged on the cage so hard that it broke. He tackled Moana once again, but then it ran away since she held the charm.
"Wh- what is wrong?" Moana asked. "He's just too strong... I couldn't help him."
"Moana," Maui tried to soothe her.
"What is it?" she asked in the direction where Pua ran to.
"I have a feeling that Pua is possessed by the main Hewau'i," he said. "It separates itself and play trick in other organism's body. Usually, the pieces that fall from it isn't that strong."
"Main? Separated? What do you mean?" Moana asked as she faced him.
"You see, Hewau'i is just one demon," Maui explained. "It has an ability to split itself so that more than one part of its devilish spirit can enter living creatures and cause mischief. Usually, the one that has been split from the main tend to be a little or a lot weaker than the main piece. And it's never easy to get the main one our of the creature."
"Oh dear..." Moana moaned in sorrow. "Out of everything and everyone else, why did it gave to choose Pua as its hardware? What if something happens to Pua while Hewau'i is controlling him?"
"He'll be fine, kid," Maui comforted her with his most soothing voice. Moana started to feel better when Maui calls her 'kid'. She smiled gently, making Maui feel better just by looking at her bright face.
"Now the wooden cage didn't work," she said. "What should we do so that Pua can stay still? I just need him to be on the spot, even though he may be struggling to free itself."
"I don't know," Maui replied. "Do you have other things in mind?"
"Ummm..." Moana thought for a moment. "You might not like it..." she said.

When they found Pua, they decided to stay still until Pua made some cautious movement. When Pua stood still, Maui jumped and called, "Pua!" Pua glared at Maui as he chanted his war cry. Pua charged towards Maui and tackled him. As soon as Pua tackled Maui, he grabbed Pua. He started to struggle violently to free from Maui's hand. He even scratched Maui's arm so hard that he started to bleed. Moana quickly came out and chanted as she held out the charm. As she chanted, the dark black substance started to emerge from Pua. As Hewau'i was completely out of Pua's body, Moana hurried to place the charm on it. As the charm was placed on Hewau'i, it turned into a red light like usual, and then more red lights were emerged from other directions and got sucked into the main piece. After a while, after all the pieces from Hewau'i were collected, the whole thing got sucked into the charm and the charm turned green. The charm gently landed on the sand beneath Moana's feet. She picked it up and said, "Please, do not cause anymore mischiefs." Then she quickly looked back to check Pua's condition. In Maui's arms, he looked... zoned out, eyes closed, paws hanging from Maui's embrace.
"Don't worry," Maui said. "He's alive. He just fainted by exhaustion. Hewau'i took total control of him that he passed his energy limits."
Moana ran towards them and hugged Pua. Her teardrops ran down from her eyes, which soaked Pua's shoulders. "Pua... I'm sorry... if I was more careful, you wouldn't have... been this way..." she sniffed.
"Now Moana," Maui tried to comfort her. "It's not your fault. Pua will live. He just need to recharge his energy after being forced to move around."
Moana wiped her eyes, carried Pua and Heihei, and said, "All right, time for breakfast both of you." She marched towards their camp. Maui smiled and followed her. When they reached the camp, Moana placed a bowl next to Pua and a plate next to Heihei. Then she remembered something. She led Heihei into the cottage with his food and let him eat inside while Maui lit the fire to cook the chicken he caught earlier. Moana watched Heihei pecking on the empty part of the plate and exited the cottage.
As Maui finished cooking the chicken he caught, Moana started to devour the legs right in. Maui was surprised by how she fast she ate. "Wow, kid, you must've been hungry," he said as he bit into his piece. She didn't even reply, she was too distracted by her food.
Soon the chicken only had bones left. Moana even burped in front of Maui without feeling any embarrassment. Maui laughed as he said, "Are you sure you're my girlfriend?"
"If you really love me," she said, "you wouldn't care about the way I eat."
"Is this really the way you eat?" Maui asked. "You seemed to eat pretty modestly when you were at Motunui."
"I was just hungry," she said. Then something licked her arm. "Pua!" She hugged Pua tightly. "Want something to eat?" she placed him down and put a bowl of sliced fruits beside him. Pua happily smashed its face against the bowl and started to munch.
"I guess you were eating like a pig," Maui teased. Moana and Pua glared at Maui, intimidating him. He flinched, took out one of the green charm from Moana's pocket and started to chant. Moana and Pua looked at each other and snickered.
