The History Teacher And His Student (Part 2)
The History Teacher And His Student (Part 2)
One Shot #23 (Cont.)
Moana's POV
The rest of my first day of high school goes okay. I managed to survive the rest of the day, make small connections with my teachers, and even a friend. Her name is Kayla. She's originally from California, but moved to Hawaii when she was ten. She's really nice, cares about her grades, and knows exactly what it's like to feel like an outsider. Though, out of all of my classes, I have a feeling Ancient Civilization is going to be my favorite. I've always been fascinated with history. Ever since I was a toddler, my grandmother Tala has told me all sorts of stories and legends including Maui, demigod of the wind and sea. Speaking of Maui, Maui resembles him so well. One might take a look at him from afar and think they were staring at a modernized version of him.
I really like Maui as a teacher though. He's young and new to the school so he can relate to us in that aspect. I can tell he also has a deep appreciation for history just based on his syllabus alone. I really can't for tomorrow.
Maui's POV
As I lie in bed reflecting on my first day of teaching, I've come to the conclusion that it could have gone a lot better, but it also could have gone a lot worse. I have three classes to teach, which are first period, fourth period, and sixth period. First period is my favorite already solely because of Moana. Ugh, I haven't been able to stop thinking about her all day. There's just something special about her. She has this eagerness to learn that I haven't seen in anyone her age in a long time. I would know because I was the exact same when I was a freshman in high school. I hope her first day of school went better than mine. Being a new teacher at a new school is stressful, but making the transition from middle school to high school is often worse.
People always say your four years of high school are the best of your life. That's an absolute lie. High school is overall shitty. One's four plus years of college are much better. In high school, you're judged for being yourself and all of your flaws are put on display for public amusement. Meanwhile in college and the real world beyond high school, most people could care less about how popular you were and what senior superlative you got.
Man, I'm really overthinking things. I'm a college graduate who has a career now. Screw high school and the shitty people I had to deal with then. I guess I got onto this topic of thought because of my interaction today with Moana. I've known her a day and I find myself wanting to get to know her on a personal level. Though, she's my student and I'm her teacher, so I have to make sure not to cross too many boundaries. The last thing I want is a lawsuit on my hands.
Hope that you guys liked this part of this one shot! :) -Mary
