A Decision To Weigh (Part 1)
A Decision To Weigh (Part 1)
One Shot #5
Maui's POV
Moana and I are currently hiking in the mountains of Montonui. Moana's been really stressed this morning so I figured going for a hike would help ease her stress a little. As we hike, silence looms over us at an alarming pace. A few minutes go by and still nothing has been said. Not being able to take it anymore, I break the silence. "Moana, what's going on? I can tell you're stressed out beyond belief." She begins to fidget. "I'm fine Maui, I'm just tired is all." I put a finger under her chin and cup face up with it getting her to look me in the eyes. "I know you better than most Moana, I can tell you're stressed. After all, we've been friends for four years. Now tell me, what's on your mind?"
Moana sighs. "I've been having this weird feelings lately, in my mind and in my heart." I raise an eyebrow. "Are they weird feelings about being chief, a recent experience, or towards a particular person?" "They're towards a particular person." "Next question, are they good or bad feelings?" She looks down at the ground. "Honestly, that depends on how the person reacts when I tell them. Well if I tell them..." I put a hand on her shoulder. "Whoever it is, you should tell them. It sounds pretty important and they deserve to know." "You're right Maui. I should tell this person. In fact, I'm going to do it right now. Maui, can you sit down for a minute please? You're probably not going to want to stand for this."
Oh crap, it's me. God, I hope I haven't done anything to hurt or upset anybody, especially her. The thought of hurting or upsetting Moana makes bot myself and my heart so sad. "Did I do something wrong Moana? If so, I'm really sorry." She puts her hands up in a frenzy. "Oh no, Maui you haven't done anything wrong." "Are you sure Moana?" "I'm positive." She takes a deep breath before continuing. "I've been having these weird feelings towards you for a year now. No matter how hard I tried to push them away, they refused to leave. Instead, they intensified and have practically consumed me at this point." My heart begins to skip a beat while Mini Maui does a happy dance on my chest, pretty much giving away my feelings. If that doesn't do it, the excessive blushing and goofy grin on my face does. "Are you saying you like me Moana?" She nods while blushing also. I wrap my arms around her. "Awww you're adorable Moana. By the way, I like you too. I have for two years now."
Her smile then shifts into a frown. "There's just the obvious issue. I think you know what I'm talking about." I begin to frown to when I realize what she's getting at. It doesn't matter that Moana's of proper age now, it's the fact that she's a mortal and I'm an immortal demigod. "Moana, there is one way we can change that." "How?" "We can go to Te Fiti and see if she'd give you immortality. She's always been fond of you so I'm pretty certain she would." She begins to perk up. "Really? That'd be amazing!" I give her a small smile back before becoming temporarily serious. "Though if you become immortal, you'll be the only one who can do so. Te Fiti can't grant immortality to your parents or the rest of your village. So before you make the decision to voyage with me there, you need to weigh those factors in your mind. Take the rest of the day to think about it and we'll reevaluate tomorrow. Does that sound good?" She nods.
We spend the rest of the day hiking while deep in thought, though we make sure to fill those awkward silences with decent conversation. I know how much it's going to shatter Moana loosing her parents to death one day, but the selfish part of me really hopes she'll choose a never ending life with me. I was alone on that horrible island for a thousand years and my life didn't have any meaning until Moana came along. Ever since she came into my life, it's never been the same, and I mean that in the best possible way.
