A Broken Man (Part 14)
A Broken Man (Part 14)
One Shot #27 (Cont.)
Moana's POV
A week later...
Maui and I have become really close over the past month more or less that I've been working for him. He's like my best friend at this point. The problem is my feelings are trying to tell me otherwise. Every time I'm close to him, my mind goes a mile a minute and my heart races. I want to talk Maui about this, but he's been having a really bad week. Therefore, I don't think now is the best moment to talk to him about my feelings. In fact, I should talk to him about his. I go into his room and notice that he's sitting in his wheelchair, facing away from Sheila and me, staring out the window. Sheila pulls me off to the side to talk to me. "What's going on Sheila?" She sighs. "I don't know. Maui's been really upset today. He won't talk to anyone. Adam even came by before you got here. Why don't you try talking to him? He's told you more about his feelings than anyone else. You might be able to get through to him."
I nod and slowly make my way over to Maui. "Maui?" No response. "Maui. Are you okay?" His gaze meets mine briefly as I stand in front of him, but otherwise stares straight ahead. "I'm not going to force you to talk Maui, but I just want you to know that if you do, I'm right here. I'm not going anywhere." He nods. "It's nothing personal against you Moana, I don't want pity today." I squeeze his hand gently. "I'd never give you pity. I care about you so much Maui. There's a big difference between pity and caring, trust me." Sheila tries to comfort him, but he swats her back aggressively. "GET OUT! BOTH OF YOU PLEASE GET OUT!" "You heard him Moana, let's get out." I sigh and follow her out of the room.
"Sheila, what triggered this?" "Adam was yapping on about what the tabloids are saying Maui. Maui clearly didn't want to hear about it, but Adam kept pushing him. Since then, which was three hours ago, Maui hasn't said a word other than what he just yelled at us. I frown. "I knew that was going to happen sooner or later. I was just hoping later." Sheila sighs. "Yeah me too. Let's just give him some space for a bit and then you can try again after. I know Maui has some laundry that needs to be done." "I'll get on that. Where is it?" "In the hamper right behind you." I whirl around and find the hamper instantly. I dive into doing the laundry to keep myself busy for the next couple of hours. Hopefully by then, Maui will be a bit more relaxed.
Maui's POV
Two hours later...
I've been guilty about yelling at Sheila and Moana, especially Moana. Neither one of them had anything to do with getting me upset. It was Adam and the shit that tabloids are running their mouths about. Moana reluctantly comes into my room to put laundry away. I turn my wheelchair around to face her, which surprises her a little because she jumps back. "Woah relax Moana, I'm not going to hurt you. I actually wanted to apologize for yelling at you earlier." I notice Sheila hovering in the hall. "I'm sorry for yelling at you too Sheila." She gives me a small smile and nod before going back to organizing medication.
She smiles and strokes my arm, sending a chill up my spine. "It's okay Maui. You've had a rough day. You don't need to be ashamed of that." I sigh. "I know, but I just hate spanning at people, especially you." Moana laughs. "Does that mean I'm your favorite?" I laugh. "You may be shocked by this, but yes you are." Moana bends down and hugs me. "I'm glad I'm your favorite Maui." I feel my heart beating out of my chest. I've been trying to deny my feelings for her, but I don't think I can for too much longer. I need to tell her how I feel.
Hoped that you guys liked this part of this one shot! By the way, this one shot as you may or may not already noticed is somewhat inspired by the book and movie Me Before You. The scene attached above correlates to this part. I thought it'd be cool to attach links of certain scenes with the proper parts. :) -Mary
