She sucked in a breath of air and took her first step into MO high school. When you looked around you could see all the cliques coming together one by one. Girls squealing, guys fist bumping, and noses in books. Artemis had no idea where she fit in but her brother, Apollo, seemed to have no trouble fitting in.
Just moments ago Apollo was standing right beside her and the next thing she knew he was chest bumping with the football team. See Artemis and Apollo were complete opposites, like the sun and the moon. Apollo was laid back and outgoing, he could make friends easily. Artemis on the other hand was uptight, introverted, and a bit cold.
Suddenly a loud noise started from above. "Attention all students. Please follow the signs to the cafeteria where you will receive your class schedules." Artemis figured it was the PA system, but she was a little embarrassed that it had made her jump.
Her mother had told she and her brother to stick together on the first day, you could see how well that was working out. Artemis looked over at Apollo but then realized he was gone. And so was everyone else. It didn't take her long to know that she should be in the cafeteria right now.
Artemis looked for the nearest sign. She took a few steps forward so she could read it better. There was an arrow pointing to the left with the word GYM next to it. Nope. Below that was an arrow pointing straight with the word LIBRARY beside it. Not it either. But under that was an arrow pointing to the right with the word CAFETERIA alongside it.
She could've followed the crowd of students if she wasn't busy spacing out. Artemis turned right to the cafeteria and started walking to the doors. When she went in there was tons of commotion. There were signs but even with those Artemis was still beyond lost.
"Lost?"
Artemis turned towards the voice and rolled her eyes. It was a boy. Of course it was. They just assumed that every girl needed to be saved the second she was even a little confused.  She was perfectly capable of getting to where she needed to be by herself. "I don't need a man to find my way for me, thank you very much." She smiled not so sweetly.
The boy put his hands up defensively and took a step back. "Geez, this is what I get for trying to be friendly." He muttered.
Compared to Apollo he was a thousand more times buffer. Not to mention he had a perfect jawline...not that she had noticed. Contrast from Apollo he had brown wavy hair that touched the tips of his ears, which he would run his fingers through every now and then.
"No one asked you to be friendly."
"Actually you see that man over there?" He pointed to a guy sitting a few tables down. "He did." His piercing blue eyes made it very difficult to look away. GAh she couldn't take this any longer.
Artemis rolled her eyes and crossed her arms as she walked away. "Rude much!" The boy shouted.
Artemis just ignored him and hopped into a line. Anything to get away from that atr-awful boy. She didn't exactly know what line she was standing in so it was probably a good idea to find out. She tapped the shoulder of the person in front of her to get more information.
They turned around, after a few minutes may she add, and looked up at her. It was a petit girl with chestnut brown curly hair that fell down to her shoulders. But her eyes were what drew your attention to her.
She was very pretty, prettier than Artemis. She wasn't going to lie she was a little intimidating, even with her height. The girl held a maroon book in her hand but Artemis couldn't quite make out the title name.
"I'm sorry did you need something?" The girl asked. That's when she realized she had been staring at her for a little too long.
"Yeah sorry. Um do you know what line this is for?" She asked.
The girl just had the judgiest expression on her face. Okay maybe it was a little silly of her not to read any of the signs. But to her defense that-that guy was making it difficult to focus.
She pointed up to the sign and read it to Artemis. "Class schedules for incoming Sophomores." Then she looked back at Artemis with a bored look.
"Are you a Sophomore?"
"No."
"Then you're in the wrong line."
"Well uh- thanks-"
"Athena." The girl finished for her.
"I'm Artemis." She introduced herself.
Athena nodded and went back to her book. Artemis turned around and looked at the signs trying to find the right line. She walked for a little while before she spotted her brothers bright blonde hair. From there she knew he must be in the right line so she just followed him.
Surprisingly there weren't a lot of juniors so the line moved fairly quickly. Once Artemis got to the front, the man who the boy she met earlier was pointing to was there. A lot of the people here were a little cold, yes maybe she was a little hypocritical, so she hoped the teachers were nicer.
"Good morning, I'm Chiron and I will be your school counselor this year." He smiled.
