Ch. 14: My Little... Uniforms?! (Part 1)

The sky is sunny, the birds are singing, and Flash Centry, the best boyfriend ever, is playing his acoustic guitar softly for us, which he does daily. What could possibly go wrong today?, Twilight Sparkle asks herself with a smile. A few days have passed since the 1st day of school; however, the animosity between Rarity and Rainbow Dash is still as strong as steel. For the last 3 days, Rarity has been glaring at Rainbow Dash mercilessly. Rainbow Dash, on the other hand, has been ignoring Rarity completely, stating that she "has more important things to do than arguing with or glaring at a spoiled brat who thinks about nothing but her looks all the time". Twilight sighs and tries to forget about her friends' argument about Rarity's tendency to judge anyone who isn't as "fabulous" as she is. She had to admit, Rarity can be really rude to Rainbow Dash and Applejack sometimes. Clear your head, Twilight thinks to herself, It's a new day and nothing will keep you from the fun of learning! She smiles as she takes in everything that is happening around her: Students' cars pulling into parking spaces (as well as teachers' cars), trying to get a spot before the 8:30 bell rings; couples walking hand-in-hand and kissing; Rainbow Dash tossing a football around with her cousins, her smile making Twilight smile; the Drama Club being as strange as usual; and then Twilight's attention wanders back to her rockstar boyfriend. She takes her long, left index finger and twirls the shoulder-length whisp of hair on the left side of her face, blushing. A somewhat beat-up pickup truck distracts her from Flash's music as it pulls into one of the few parking spaces left at 8:18am.

Apple Bloom sinks into the front passenger seat of her older sister's beat-up pickup truck as other students point and laugh at it, covering her face with her long-fingered right hand. Rolling her hazel eyes, Apple Bloom asks angrily,

"Why are we drivin' around in this thing? They're all laughin' at us!"

"Am I supposed to care?," Applejack asks, her blonde eyebrow arched in confusion, "Besides, this truck was one of daddy's, and it has done a lot o' hard work! I'm mighty proud o' ownin' this truck."

"Whatever," Apple Bloom says flatly, bored with her sister's sentimental attachment to the old truck, "This is just what I need, another reason for Diamond Tiara to tease me forever. Thanks, Applejack, for bein' the most embarrassin' sister ever."

Applejack rolls her green eyes and chooses to ignore her little sister. You're not exactly the greatest sister either, Applejack thinks to herself, annoyed. Both sisters open their car doors and grab their backpacks as a silver convertible pulls up beside them.

Wearing purple, heart-shaped aviator sunglasses and singing along to the radio, Rarity pulls into a parking space in Canterlot High's parking lot, right next to an old pickup truck that she instantly recognized. Sweetie Belle, also wearing sunglasses, smiles from the silver convertible as she spots Apple Bloom.

"Sweetie Belle!," Apple Bloom says happily, "I wish I had been in the car with you. I bet DT and SP already spotted me and this ancient truck and made the connection."

"Wow," says Sweetie Belle, giggling, "Have you seen Scoots yet?"

"Nah," Apple Bloom replies as Sweetie Belle gets out of her sister's car, "We got here about the same time as y'all did."

"Oh," Sweetie Belle says as she grabs her Hello Kitty backpack, "Well, it's day four of high school. I can't wait for them to finally put out the sign-up sheet for after school activities!"

"Me either!," Apple Bloom says happily as she and Sweetie Belle walk towards the school.

Trying not to cringe at the sight of the dirt covering Applejack's truck, Rarity smiles at the farm girl and says to her,

"Good morning, darling. How're you and your siblings? And I can't forget Granny Smith."

"Mornin' to you too, Rarity," Applejack replies, returning the smile, "And we're fine. Big Mac left before I did, so he should be here already. Apple Bloom's bein' a real pain this mornin' though. Worried about bein' made fun of."

"So is Sweetie Belle," Rarity says, her smile fading, "Some girls named Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon bully our sisters mercilessly. It's ridiculous."

Applejack's white iPhone, with a red phone case on it, starts ringing loudly. Applejack walks away from Rarity nervously, and then answers her phone.

"H-howdy, Dash," Applejack says, her voice shaking.

"What's wrong with you?," Rainbow Dash asks on the other line, "And where are you?"

"I see you floatin' around, playin' football," Applejack replies, scared that Rainbow Dash might see Rarity standing near her, "I'll come to you."

"Okay," Rainbow Dash says, "See ya."

The line goes dead and Rarity approaches her, her giant, purple, Michael Kors tote hanging from her right shoulder. Rarity smiles and asks,

"Who was that on the phone?"

"Oh," begins Applejack, her eyes wide in panic, "That was, uh, no one you know."

"Oh," says Rarity, her disappointment obvious, "Well, it's eight twenty-two, so I guess we should go inside."

"I reckon we should," Applejack replies, a wide smile on her freckled face.

The two girls walk toward the school in silence. Applejack's mind is scrambling to figure out how to keep Rarity and Rainbow Dash apart so that they don't start arguing again.

***

Rainbow Dash spots Applejack walking towards her and waves. She is happy to see her closest friend - that is, until she sees Rarity walking with her. Her left hand's fingers clutch her rainbow-colored football tightly in anger. She could've told me that the witch was with her!, Rainbow Dash thinks to herself, trying not to fly over to them and strangle Rarity for being a stuck-up, rude, hoity-toity, vain, selfish-yet-generous (confusing, right?) brat. Applejack looks up at her, smiles, and says to her,

"Hey, Dash. I'd recognize that crazy, rainbow-y head of hair anywhere."

"Yeah, yeah," Rainbow Dash begins, smiling, "I get it: my hair's very, uh, colorful."

Applejack laughs as Rainbow Dash rolls her eyes. Rarity wants to laugh, but she is afraid that Rainbow Dash might think she is laughing at her, and then get very angry. She feels so guilty for always making Rainbow Dash and Applejack feel inadequate. She had to give the two girls credit though; they are strong enough to take her insulting words and walk around with a smile on their rather pretty faces. Yes, Rarity thinks they are pretty, regardless of the fact that Applejack is often covered in mud, or that Rainbow Dash often dresses like a boy, only occasionally displaying her abs (and hidden, womanly figure) by wearing a sports bra as a top. Rarity couldn't take it anymore: missed her wild, rather profane, Rock music-loving, loud, colorful best friend.

"Dashie, darling, I'm truly sorry!," Rarity exclaims, tears forming in her dark-blue eyes, "I know I've been horrible to you at times -"

"Did you just say, 'at times'?," Rainbow Dash asks angrily, her right fist clenching as she contemplates throwing the football at Rarity's head, "More like, 'whenever you get the chance'!"

"I know, dear," Rarity says, nodding, "But please don't write me off forever! What Twilight said on Tuesday was right: What's the point of the Elements of Harmony if there's no harmony?!"

Rainbow Dash had to admit it: Rarity has a point. But she is still mad at Rarity, so she just looks down at her (pretty ironic, huh?), frowns, and yells,

"FUCK LOYALTY!"

Students stare at Rainbow Dash as she takes off into the air. Applejack and Rarity are shocked enough for the entire school.

***

Hours pass by, but Rainbow Dash is nowhere to be found. At 3:45pm, the "Main 6", with the help of Twilight's favorite "Cloud Walker" spell and a levitation spell, fly up to Rainbow Manor in hopes of finding Rainbow Dash. Once on the Manor's pristine porch, Twilight rings its doorbell, silently hoping that Rainbow Dash just flew home. The huge doors open and Rainbow Dash looks at her four friends (plus her ex-best friend), her face expressionless. The doors slam in their faces.

"I guess that's it," Rarity says sadly, her head hanging and tears falling onto the clouds, "Our friendship is over. I'm officially the worst friend ever!"

The girls hear sobs coming from the other side of the front doors. Rarity approaches the doors with caution, a concerned expression on her face as she touches one of the doors with her right hand.

"Is Dash... cryin'?," Applejack asks, her eyes wide, "In all the years I've known that crazy girl, I ain't never seen or heard her cry! I don't hear no thunder, either. I thought her emotions were connected to -"

The sound of booming thunder cut Applejack's sentence off suddenly, and Applejack nods.

"There's that thunder I was lookin' for," Applejack says, "Usually means that Dash is ticked off about somethin'. (Laughing) Ain't no tellin' what the weather would look like if my emotions were connected to it!"

The others giggle; however, Twilight is laughing for a different reason. Twilight says, smiling,

"I highly doubt that Rainbow's emotions are connected to the weather. It's more likely that the weather changes when she's angry because her anger is preventing her from controlling her powers properly."

The others frown a little, considering Twilight's theory. Rainbow opens the manor's front doors with a laugh.

"You know, Twilight," Rainbow Dash says, her eyes somewhat red from her sobbing, "Between Rarity's bullshit comments about my clothes and your nerdy, bullshit comments about shit you don't understand, I can't choose which is more annoying! Just because you didn't read about emotions and whether or not they can be connected to weather patterns, that doesn't mean it isn't possible. It is possible. In fact, it's so damn possible that it's something that my mom, nana, and I can do! So cut the 'I know everything!' attitude, Twi, 'cause I'm not buyin' it."

Twilight Sparkle frowns, offended. Rainbow Dash shakes her head and says,

"You don't know everything, Twilight Sparkle. Get over it."

With that said, Rainbow Dash slams the doors in their faces for the last time. The other girls sadly turn away from Rainbow Manor, wondering if Rainbow Dash was going to make them the "Main 5" by tomorrow.
