Ch. 11: My Little Back-To-School Tales: Manors and Heroes (Told by Rainbow Dash)
There aren't a lot of people who know that my family resides in a huge, cloud-made mansion called "Rainbow Manor". The only people who know are my family, me, my 5 closest friends (it took me forever to tell them), my friends' siblings (some of them), Scootaloo (a girl who is my biggest fan), and my boyfriend of 3 years, Soarin' (I'm still trying to muster up the courage to tell my friends I'm dating - especially Applejack, who is boyfriend-less... but Fluttershy's single by choice, so...). I'll talk about Soarin' later.
Anyway, it's 8:00am (9-1-14) and I'm racing toward Ponyville Station, the main train station for Ponyville, a town founded by Applejack's ancestors, funny enough (shouldn't the girl be as rich as me by now? *Gasp* Maybe she's hiding it like I did!). The town was named for the horses that carried the Apple family to the land they settled on (*Sigh* Why the hell am I giving you a history lesson? I just lost major coolness points in the last two minutes!). Let's come back to the present. I don't know why I'm racing to the station; flying at my normal speed, I'll be there by 8:02. Ponyville is right by Cloudsdale. It's pretty much under Rainbow Manor (sort of).
Don't even get me started on what happened yesterday. It was one of those typical Rainbow Family family dinners. Every member was sitting at the ginormous, long table (the kind you see in every mansion in movies or in TV shows) and, as usual, Uncle Storm Cloud was frowning at... whatever he was frowning at. He's the grumpiest dude I've ever seen in my life (if I don't count Mr. Cranky Doodle Dandy, one of my teachers at Canterlot High). He's the father of my cousins, Rainbow Flash and Crystal Rainbow. But he wasn't the problem. The problem was that Aunt Sharp Wings, the mother of my cousin, Rainbow Blitz, and the woman who used to be (emphasis on "used to") married to my Uncle Cloudus Jr. (my mom's older brother), had come to visit. She's always bothering me about being lady-like and ends up offending my mother. Aunt Sharp ruins most of our family dinners because she starts some argument that is somehow always centered around me (sounds crazy right?)! I mean, what did I do to this woman? Last night's argument (the one where I finally snapped; I'm gonna start from the minute Aunt Sharp entered the house):
Nana Mist (my grandmother, Rainbow Mist; *Opening the manor's front door*): Oh, hello, Sharp Wings! It's so nice to see you!
Rainbow Blitz (Running to the door): Mom! Guess what?
Aunt Sharp (Hugging Rainbow Blitz): Yes, sweetie?
Rainbow Blitz (Smiling like a goof): I got a silver medal in the sports competition at school!
Aunt Sharp (With a serious expression): Oh. So who won gold?
Rainbow Blitz (Still smiling like a goof): Well, Rainbow Flash and I won the silver, but (pointing to me) Dash, who's only, like, the best athlete to fly these skies, won the gold!
Aunt Sharp (Looking at me out of the corner of her eyes): Congratulations, Rainbow Dash. (With an obviously fake smile) You never fail to amaze us all.
I knew the witch was mad at me because I beat her son in the competition. Ugh. I hate her attitude.
Me (Pretending nothing was wrong): Thanks. (To Nana Mist with a Rainbow Blitz-y goof grin) I'm starving. What's for dinner?
Nana Mist (Smiling at us all): Come to the dining hall and see!
We followed nana into the dining hall (while most of my family members like to walk through Rainbow Manor, I prefer to fly through it - which I did). Some moments later, as the rest of the family was eating, Aunt Sharp starts this convo:
Aunt Sharp (Smiling): Can you believe that my little Blitzy -
Rainbow Blitz (Looking embarrassed as the rest of us teenagers snickered): Mom!
Aunt Sharp (With a serious expression again): (To Rainbow Blitz) Let me finish! (To the rest of the family - with a huge grin) Can you believe he won a silver medal at Canterlot High's sports competition? I'm so happy for him.
Nana Mist (Surprised, but smiling): (To Rainbow Blitz) Oh! I knew that Rainbow Dash and Rainbow Flash won medals, but I didn't see yours! I'm so proud of you, Blitzy.
Rainbow Blitz (Smiling and blushing): Thanks, nana. It feels great to win a medal or two, but Dash is the real winner!
Me (Hiding the fact that I wanted to kill him for saying anything about me at all): Please, we're all winners.
Everyone in Equestria knows I love to win, but every time someone mentions that I won something in front of Aunt Sharp, she becomes this jealous crazy person that's obsessed with making her son look better than me.
Aunt Sharp (With an obviously jealous expression): So, Rainbow Dash, riddle me this: Do you take pride in making my son look weak?
Me (Looking into her eyes directly): Who said I was trying to make him look weak? When did I make him look weak?
Nana Mist (Looking at Aunt Sharp and then at me): (To Aunt Sharp, frowning) Sharp Wings, I highly doubt that Dashie's trying to make Blitzy look weak or anything. She just does her best at sports *Winks at me* and wins.
I smiled back at nana and turned to face Aunt Sharp. Rainbow Blitz looked even more embarrassed than before (not that his mother was any help)!
Aunt Sharp (Looking at me angrily): (To Nana Mist) Oh, puh-lease! Every time she *pointing to me* wins anything, she brags about it with a smug little grin! (To me) Isn't that right, Dashie?
Rainbow Strike (my mother): (To Aunt Sharp, frowning) Don't you dare talk to my daughter like that! It isn't her fault she has a talent for sports.
Me (Rolling my eyes): (To my mom) I can handle myself, mom. (To Aunt Sharp) Look, I didn't try to do anything but win the comp. I wasn't trying to make Blitz look bad. If you want me to, I'll give Blitz the gold medal, and I'll take the silver one.
Aunt Sharp (Rolling her eyes): (To me) Blitzy doesn't want your pity medal. (To Rainbow Blitz) Isn't that right, Blitzy dear? (To me again with a somewhat evil grin - creepy right?) *Pointing to her son* He deserved to win that medal, not you.
Me (The moment I finally snapped): (To Aunt Sharp) Okay, that's IT. I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THE HELL YOUR PROBLEM IS, BUT YOU'VE BEEN INSULTING ME FOR TOO LONG! THE BULLSHIT STOPS TODAY! I WIN BECAUSE I PUT IN THE EFFORT. GET OVER YOURSELF - YOUR SON ISN'T THE ONLY ONE IN THIS HOUSE WORTHY OF A GOLD MEDAL, AND I'M FLYING PROOF. (To the rest of my family) Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm leaving this disaster of a dinner. If you need me, I'll be in my room.
And that was the end of that. I walked into my room and slammed the doors (yeah, my room's got fancy doors - you should see my closet). I'd never been so pissed in my life. But seriously, I wanna get out of the past and focus on what's happening right now.
***
I fly towards the train station. By the time I land on the platform, it's 8:05am (I took up time with a couple of loops in the air). At 8:10, I'm joined by Pinkie Pie (who's smiling like a goof), Rarity (she's glued to a compact mirror... typical), Applejack (that cowgirl hat never leaves her head, lol), Twilight Sparkle (the egghead), and Fluttershy (she's hiding behind her pink hair). Apple Bloom (also wearing a cowgirl hat like her sister), Sweetie Belle (Rarity's little sister), Scootaloo (my biggest fan), and Tender Wings - sorry, I meant Onyx Wings (Fluttershy's weird little brother) are on the platform too.
Applejack's black cowgirl hat suddenly gets blown off of her head by a strong gust of wind. It flies over the platform and nearly lands on the train tracks. Applejack catches her hat as I fly up to see where the train is. The train is coming faster than me. As a matter-of-fact, it's coming so fast that Applejack doesn't have time to pull her arm out of the way! I fly into her at top speed, basically tackling her out of the way as the train speeds into the station. She looks up at me like I'm nuts. Then she smiles as I help her off the ground.
"Dash, you're amazin'!," Applejack says as the train slows down, "My arm was about to get ripped clean off. Thanks, sugar cube, you're a life saver. Or in my case, an arm saver."
"Anytime," I say, a litte shocked that I, once again, saved somebody on impulse (why do I keep doing that?).
As we get on the train, random people clap (apparently they saw me push Applejack out of the way of the train). I'm debating whether I should thank the people, or just ignore them. We speed off to Canterlot High and I'm just trying to wrap my head around what happened (on a good day, I'd be bragging about what I just did). Then I smile. I saved my best friend from a horrible accident. I'm pretty proud of myself.
