Ch. 10: My Little Back-To-School Tales: Back To CHS (Told by Twilight Sparkle)
I wake up at the sound of my purple, albeit loud, alarm clock. It's 7:00am. Smiling Pinkie Pie-style, I hop out of my bed and shake Solar Flair awake. She turns onto her back and looks at me with a sunny smile to match her sunny side of the room.
"Upsy-daisy, Flairie!," I say loudly, "We're going back to Canterlot High today!"
Flairie sits up, stands on her sun-shaped rug near her bed, and we both squeal and jump up and down like we did the day Shining Armor called us.
"OMG, Twily," says Flairie, "I'm so excited! What do you think is gonna change this year?"
"I don't know," I say, frowning because I'm in deep thought, "But I reckon we should just wait and see. Okay?"
Flairie nods and, because we're always organized and prepared, Flairie and I go into our closet to get the outfits we picked out for school yesterday.
"You can take your shower first, Twily," Flairie says with a smile.
"Awww," I reply, "Thanks Flairie! I'll be quick, okay?"
Flairie nods again, her smile still on her face. After I shower, I lay my clothes out on my bed. As Flairie showers, I start to get dressed in the outfit I chose:
- White Oxford shirt (will be tucked in, of course)
- Pleated, purple, knee-length skirt with pockets
- White tights
- Knit, purple sweater-vest (What can I say? I'm a very preppy girl!)
- Black ballet flats with cute little purple bow
As I slip my feet into the ballet flats, Flairie comes out of our bathroom, her favorite yellow towel wrapped around her. After she gets dressed and her shoes are on her feet, we both use our magic to shrink our school supplies-filled backpacks and put them in our pockets. We grab our little backpack purses and I call my friends in a 6-way call.
"Hello, Twilight, dear!," Rarity says on her end of the line.
"Hey, egghead," says Rainbow Dash.
"Hello, Twilight," Fluttershy says quietly (big surprise).
"Hey there, sugar cube," Applejack says happily, and then I hear her yell, "BLOOM, TURN THAT SONG OFF! IT'S SEVEN-THIRTY IN THE MORNIN'! (To me) Sorry, Twi, but Bloom plays that song ev'ry mornin' now. And on top o' ev'rything, her friends are here too."
"Oh, it's all right," I say, giggling, "How are the Cutie Mark Crusaders? How was their sleepover?"
"They're all right," Applejack says, "And Bloom thanked me for the cider this mornin', so I guess the party went well."
"Did you know they recruited my little brother over the summer?," Fluttershy says.
"Seriously?," I ask, "Wow. He's always so quiet. I didn't think he'd ever want to be around the CMC girls; they like music and parties and he barely talks to people."
"You should see Tender Wings now, though," Fluttershy says, "It turns out that he was planning to change his image. Over the summer, to our parents' dismay, he dyed his hair and wing feathers black. Then, at dinner, he asked, no, TOLD, us to call him 'Onyx Wings' or just 'Onyx'."
I don't think my face could don a more shocked expression than the one it already wore.
"WHAT?!," the rest of us ask in unison.
"Yeah," Fluttershy says, "It was the weirdest dinner we've ever had."
"Hey guys!," Pinkie Pie says with irritation, "We gotta catch the eight-fifteen train! And why am I the one that's keeping us on schedule? Isn't that Twilight's job? I've been the only organized one lately. Can anyone say, 'AWKWARD'?"
"Yeah, that is weird," Rainbow Dash says, "I'm leaving my house now. Bye guys."
"Bye," the other five of us say together, and then Rainbow Dash's line goes dead.
We all say our goodbyes, and then Flairie and I head out to the train station, happier than I am when I enter a library.
