Part 40: Broken Hearts Heal

Michael's point of view

As the sunrays coming through the large windows of the hotel room hit my face, I stirred a little in my sleep and felt a pressure on my chest; a warm, pleasing pressure. I opened my eyes one by one only to see June sleeping on my bare chest, which caused a huge grin to appear on my face.

Even though I couldn't feel the blood flowing in my left arm that was around June's waist anymore, I didn't let go of her and laid a gentle kiss on her forehead, my smile never leaving my tired face.

This night was rough for me, because I just wouldn't allow myself to close my eyes and go to sleep, afraid that all of this was nothing but a wonderful dream. I was afraid to close my eyes and wake up in the harsh reality. It seemed too perfect; so much perfect that I thought this was all my imagination playing tricks on me. So when I woke up and felt the love of my life just beside me where she belonged, I knew this was all real.

It's like we fell in love with each other all over again, like we were discovering the other for the very first time. If I had to find a word to describe that night, it would be magical, for everthing seemed unreal, like it was just an illusion.

I gently moved my head to the side in order to see the digital clock that stood on the nightstand which read 9:37a.m. Doing so, the folded paper that Prince asked me to deliver to June caught my eyes. I could have read it before, but I wouldn't allow myself to do so, thinking it may be personal.

I gently placed another kiss on June's forehead, and carefully slid my legs out of bed in order to sit up on the edge of it and grabbed the letter.

The very first line of the letter broke my heart a bit, for it let me know that Prince was heartbroken: so much that he had to put an end to his friendship with June.

As days passed by, I came to a point where I learned to like Prince, thing I thought I wouldn't be able to do. Ever. I discovered a new side to his personality, a good one, and I understood why June had doubts about her feelings towards him; it's easy to fall for such a nice person, especially when you spend most of your time with them. The fact that June got closer to him was my fault because I left her behind, and I was missing while I was taking care of things on my own.

Now I just wish Prince never fell for her, and that they could remain as good friends as they were, because June made me understand how much she cared about him.

I ruined everything, but still, June came back to me, even though I was a real asshole to her.

And I couldn't be happier about it.

From that day on, I swore to myself that I would never hurt her like this again, and I'd never cast doubt on her intentions.

I left my thoughts aside, and refocused on Prince's words, reading them carefully in my head. His letter was probably one of the most sincere proof of love that one can give another. Even though he was madly in love with her, he still wished her to be happy with me, even if it must have broken his heart to think that the woman he loves would be in someone else's arms.

I realized while reading, that Prince and I were more alike than I thought; he's sensitive, and lonely. The only difference is that I don't care to show it to people, while Prince is quite reserved about this and want to stick to his bad boy image. Maybe it's easier for him to have some people hate him, as I learned thanks to this letter that he didn't know what it was to love and to be loved before June walked into his life.

"With you, I wasn't alone anymore, and I could never be able to thank you enough for that."

I read this sentence over and over again in my head, and turned to see June, who stirred a little in her sleep, allowing me to have a beautiful view on her bare, dreamy legs. I smiled at the sight, and felt a tear rolling down my cheek.

Just like Prince, I would never be able to thank June enough for getting rid of my loneliness. She was the key to it: since I had her back, I never felt so complete and happy in my life. During those two years we were appart, sure I had Jessica, but she never succeded in filling the hole June left in my life when she walked away.

Nobody ever succeded.

And at that moment, I found myself hoping it would be easier for Prince to fill the hole June left in his life, because I just knew how difficult and painful it was to live without her.

"Hey there handsome," I heard June's soft voice greeting me. "Where do you think you're going?" she asked me, drawing patterns with her fingers on my back.

"I'm not going anywhere," I smiled, wiping the tears away from my eyes. "There's no place I'd rather be."

"Baby," June said, concern filling her voice, "why are you crying?" she asked, kneeling behind me on the bed and wrapping her arms around my neck. "And what are you doing with Prince's letter?"

"I'm sorry, it was there, and I was curious to read it, so I–"

"It's okay, I wanted you to read it anyways. But... Is this the reason why you're crying?" she cut me off, rubbing my shoulders tenderly.

I turned around completely to face her, and smiled a bit, "Yeah, you could say that. It's just-- it touches me to see the effect you have on people, how you can change people's lives just by being there, just by your presence. You saved him and I both from a loneliness that could have killed us. I'll never be able to thank you enough for this. Just like him."

"You don't have to thank me," she shook her head, stucking a strand of her rebelious hair behind her ear. "Being with you is what makes me wake up every morning."

"I don't want you to stop seeing Prince," I blurted out, cupping her right cheek. "Whenever he's ready to be near you again, then I want you to spend time with him. Living without you is unbearable when we're in love with you, and I don't want him to go through the same pain as me. He's a good guy."

"Really?" she asked, quite shocked. "I– I thought you..."

"I changed my mind," I smiled, rubbing her cheek tenderly. "I'm nobody to forbide you to see people. Prince needs you, you need him; simple."

"I don't want to hurt you again and I don't want you to be jealous about him. I want this relationship to finally work and I--"

"Baby," I cut her off, grazing my thumb on her cheek, "I'm positive about this. I trust you and your choices. I gave you the chance to be with him, but you chose to be with me. That's enough proof I needed. I know where your heart is."

"Gosh, I love you," she whispered before she hugged my neck, tackling me on the bed. "It was you from the beginning," she told me, playing with my hair.

"That's normally the moment where I kiss you passionately and keep repeating how much I love you, but I need to brush my teeth first," she explained, kissing my cheek before jumping out of bed with the bed sheets around her body.

"Why the sheets?" I whined, laying on my belly with my chin in my hands.

"Duh? It's chilly as hell here."

"Okay, but be careful, don't trip over the–"

Thud!

Too late...

"– sheets..." I finished in a whisper, standing up from the bed to run to my clumsy girlfriend.

"Damnit!" June cursed on the floor, as she tripped over the sheets around her body and ended up on the ground.

"Baby, are you okay?" I gently asked her, kneeling at her side and trying to hide the smirk on my face.

"I'm fine," she giggled, as I helped her up. "My legs feel like jelly this morning."

"Makes sense. You're weak after the night we spent," I giggled, holding her hips. "My sweet, beautiful, Klutzilla."

"Seriously? That nickname again?" she asked, jokingly swatting my chest.

"It suits you, I can't help it," I shrugged with a smirk. "Now go in there and brush your teeth so I can kiss you the right way," I commanded, biting my lower lip.

"Don't do that," she warned, pointing a threatening finger at me.

"Do what?" I asked, taking my lip back into my mouth, as I perfectly knew what she was talking about.

"I need a cold shower," she muttered, pushing my chest away before finally heading to the bathroom.

I lowly chuckled, and called, "Coming!"

June's point of view

Michael and I were patiently waiting for Pit and Bill to come and escort us out of this hotel, as apparently a group of people were waiting for us at the entrance of the building.

"Why didn't you put Prince's dress back? It's gorgeous on you," Michael complimented as he was hugging me from behind.

"It's kinda cold out there," I chuckled, rubbing his arm. "I'm way more comfortable with pants on, and it's warmer."

"Mmh, true," he hummed in response, kissing my neck. "I'm looking forward to summer."

His kisses were like a drug to me. He was a drug to me. I was high on love when I was with Michael.

"I thought you loved fall because of the trees' colors," I practically moaned, closing my eyes as the feeling of his lips on my skin was so intense.

"I do, but what I love most is to see you walking around the house with just your bikini on," he whispered in my ear in a deep, charming voice. "Even if I can't enjoy the sun as much as I'd loved to, I enjoy it through you."

I turned around to face him and wrapped my arms around his slim waist, "Naughty," I smirked, before getting on my tip toes to kiss his lips softly. "Are you excited for tomorrow?" I asked, playing with one of Michael's loose curl.

"T-Tomorrow?" he asked, his eyes widening.

"Uh, yeah? Halloween?" I asked, frowning. "You forgot?"

His face changed in a slit second from shocked to relieved, and I didn't get what was wrong with him.

"Uh, no! I just realized I don't have any disguise to go trick or treating with Tim," he said, pouting, while his eyes were full of nervousness. "You know what? I'll have Bill take you home, and I'll go pick a disguise and then come back to you, okay?"

"Can't I come with you?" I frowned in confusion again.

"You wouldn't make your family wait any longer now, would you? They're waiting for you to come home and tell them everything. Plus, I think you may owe them an apology for being a brat," he pointed out.

"Yes, but –"

"No buts, baby," he cut me off, putting his finger over my lips. "You're going home, and I'll join you there once I found the perfect disguise."

"Okay," I mumbled against his slender finger. "I wanted to get us matching disguises, but well, with the circumstances, I just took mine," I explained once Micael removed his finger from my mouth, looking down at our feet.

"What did you pick?"

"Batman-- well, Batgirl," I chuckled a bit. "I wanted you to be my Batman."

"Then I'll be your Batman," he whispered, lifting my chin up so that our eyes met. "I'll be everything you want me to be."

I smiled at his sweetness, and gave him another soft kiss. I finally had my Michael back, the one I fell in love with back in 1987, the man I kept falling in love with all over again through the days. My man.

My everything

Unfortunately, our kiss was interrupted by a knock on the hotel room's door. As expected, when I opened it, Michael's two grinning bodyguards were standing there.

"Look who looks tired," Pit said once I opened the door, nudging his colleague.

"Don't start, Ryerson," I warned my friend with a smirk. "Come in for a sec, so you can explain what's the plan to get out of here."

"And so you can tell us how was your night," Pit mumbled to me with a smirk when he passed me to get in the room.

I rolled my eyes at him, and closed the door behind them. Bill and Pit went to greet their boss, while I gathered my stuff.

"Hey Pit, did you think about my New York magazine?" I called at my friend as I was stuffing Prince's dress in my handbag.

"Of course I did," he grinned, taking the magazine out of his jacket's inner pocket. "You look like you're a queen here," he joked, and I nudged him playfully. "The princess has become a queen ladies and gentlemen!"

I looked down at the cover, and a proud smile appeared on my face when I saw the tittle: June Wellinton, The Leading Model just beneath the shoot of my newbies and I.

"Stop, I'm no queen," I chuckled at his silliness. "Damn, do my newbies look good," I proudly said to myself.

"If you were a dude, you could have easily been pictured as James Bond here," Bill chimed in, joining the spot where Pit and I were, closley followed by Michael.

"Caleb is actually the James Bond here," I chuckled, examining the cover.

"Seriously though, you look amazing," Pit said again, and I smiled at him, thanking him.

"Can I see?" Michael's sweet voice asked, and I looked up at him.

"Of course," I smiled, handing him the magazine. "I'll read the article in the car."

"I read it," Pit declared, as I continued to pack my stuff while Michael was carefully studying the cover. "You must have charmed the photographer, because they're showering you with compliments. And the pics... They're great."

"That's awesome," I genuinely smiled.

I was content that some magazines had still the decency to compliment people when they needed to be complimented, and to say nice things about them, instead of trying to make money with lies.

"Caleb seems happy where he is," Michael chuckled, handing me back my magazine. "I mean, everybody would be happy to shoot next to you. You're breathtaking," he sincerely said with a toothless smile.

"You'd like to pose with me?" I asked, a hand over my heart and my eyes lighting up with excitement.

"Uh, I– yeah, but you know how uncomfortable I get in front of the camera."

"That's son bs, son! How can you dance and sing in front of thousands of people, and get shy in front of barely twenty people?" Bill asked, raising his eyebrows.

"I can't explain it," Michael shrugged with an embarassed smile on. "But I'll think about it. I'd love to pose with you."

I squealed like a little girl, clapping my hands together, and went to give a hug to Michael, wrapping my arms around his neck.

"Okay so as nobody asked... Are you back together? For good this time?" Pit asked us, which caused us to chuckle.

"For good, and forever," I dreamily said, not breaking eye contact with Michael.

"You heard the woman," Michael answered in the same tone before pecking my lips, hugging my waist tightly.

"Okay okay, good. Now, will you stop being all lovey dovey for a bit so we can get out of here?" Bill said with a little smirk.

Michael quickly pulled away from me, and cleared his throat, "Sure," he nodded, putting a serious face on.

"Okay, so we're going to get you out through the kitchen," Bill explained, and we nodded in understanding. "We let the people in there know, so that they don't freak out, you know."

Bill's always been really professional, but at the same time, he could be a father figure for Michael when he needed one, for he's known him since he was five years old.

"Okay, let's get out of here then," Michael declared, taking my hand in his.

Manhattan, New York,
Halloween Day, October 31st, 1990

Michael's point of view

As I was in the bathroom, preparing myself to go treat or treating with Tim, Josh and June, I looked at myself in the mirror one last time, exhaling loudly as nervousness was getting the best of me.

"You can do this, Mike. You planned everything just right," I encouraged myself, looking at my reflection in the mirror. "She's going to say yes this time."

What if she says no?

"She's going to say yes," I repaeated, trying to convince myself. "It's not too soon. It's the perfect time."

I took the black velvet box from my disguise's pocket, and opened it. The diamond ring before my eyes made my stomach errupt with butterflies at the simple thought that it would soon be on June's finger.

It'll look perfect on her.

What was I thinking when I claimed I didn't want to marry her?

What a fool.

I closed my eyes for a bit, and calmed my nerves down by ceasing the constant thoughts in my head. I exhaled one more time, and put back the box in my pocket.

I arranged my hair a bit and finally put my Batman mask over my head that allowed only my chin and mouth to show.

"Let's do this."

I opened the bathroom's door, and headed towards the living room where everybody was visibly waiting on me.

As soon as I arrived there, my heart stopped beating for a second when my stare fell upon June. Her Batgirl costume on, she was amazingly... Sexy.
She was dressed in leather from head to toes, which hugged her curves perfectly, and she had some black high heels boots on. Her hair was falling freely on her shoulders, while her head was hidden behind the same mask as me.

Isn't Halloween about scaring people? Because she didn't look scary to me. Anything but scary, actually.

"Ah, we were waiting for you, Uncle Michael!" Timmy exclaimed in his Joker costume, which tear me out of my daydreaming.

Act normal, Michael.

"Oh my Goodness! Isn't that the Joker?" I asked, faking panick.

"No, silly," he giggled with a hand over his mouth. "It's me, Timmy!"

"Oh thank God! I was ready to kick your butt," I said, kneeling at his height. "Your make up is so cool!" I exclaimed, examining his Joker-like make up.

"David did it," he smiled. "He did the make up, and also he colored my hair in green."

"Pffft, it's nothing, really," Dave said, waving a hand. "But I have to admit that I did a pretty good job."

"Don't be too full of yourself, Rogers," his boyfriend scolded, hitting his arm. "Now, Jackson. Don't you look good as Batman."

"Actually, you just realized one of my fantasies. Well, half of it. The full thing implies me ripping your disguise off and--"

"Uh Dave," I nervously smiled, covering Tim's ears, "I got the idea."

"Don't you look at my man this way, you pervert!" June chimed in, making her way up to me. "He's mine," she claimed, wrapping her arms around my waist.

"Oh my, you look so good," Michelle said with a grin. "Can I take a picture?"

"Sure," I smiled, wrapping my arms around June's thin waist, as Michelle went to look for her camera. "Is Josh ready yet?"

"No, he's still struggling with his disguise. Apparently, it's shorter than expected, so Day's trying to figure something out," She giggled, a hand over her mouth.

"How short?"

"This thing is so tight that I'm pretty sure I saw his nuts!" Dave exclaimed, laughing his ass off.

"Oh boy," I muttered, laughing as well.
I took a quick glance over at Tim, and noticed he was playing with his cowboys, not paying attention to what we were saying. Thank God.

"You look good, baby," June said in my ear, as she placed a kiss on the side of my neck.

Damn, don't do that.

"Uh, thanks. You look... Good too," I nervously mumbled, as she continued to kiss my neck.

"What's wrong?" she asked, frowning, stopping her kisses to look into my eyes. "You've been acting weird all day long."

"I uh, no! It's just that I had a lot of things to take care of."

"I noticed. You spent the entire day on the phone," she whined with a pout. "What's your excuse for your weirdness now?"

"You know I'm weird, the tabloids say it themselves," I smartly answered, trying to sound confident.

"Come on. What's wrong, babe?"

I sighed heavily, and half-lied, "you look really, really sexy in this leather outfit..."

It's true, I acted weird because her outfit was turning me on, but I was nervous for... Something else.

"Oh yeah?" She seductively asked, wrapping her arms around my neck. "You like it?"

"Very much so," I admitted, biting my bottom lip. "You're one sexy Batgirl."

"And you're such a fine ass Batman as well," she whispered on my mouth before giving me a soft kiss.

I fought the urge not to slide my hands all the way down to June's butt, as people were around the room. Every curve of her body was visible with this outfit of hers, and it was really driving me crazy. It wouldn't make things easier for me to be focused on my plans for the night.

As we were kissing, a flash interrupted us, and we pulled away from each other.

"So cute," Michelle said, agitating a Polaroid picture in her hand. "Okay, let's take another one!" she cheered, setting the previous pic down.

"See? I'm posing with you," I whispered to June, as she was hugging my waist for the picture.

"Haha, funny, Jackson, funny," she sarcastically said, before placing her head on my shoulder.

"Okay, one, two, and... Three!" June's mom exclaimed, and the flash of the camera blinded us. "Now Timmy, would you like to take a picture with your auntie and Michael?"

"Yay!" He gleefully answered, running towards us. "I want to be in the middle of you both," he commanded with a toothless smile.

"Sure, buddy," June smiled, and took her godson in her arms.

As Tim was in the middle of the both of us, he wrapped one arm around my neck, and his other arm around his godmother's.

I couldn't stop smiling at the thought that I was here to stay, and that I was now a part of the family for good.

Michelle took another couple of pics, and then she was finally done, and waited for the pics to be fully developed.

"Hey, by the way! Who had the idea that y'all be dressed in Batman's characters? I mean you two are Batman and Batgirl, Josh is Robin and Tim is the Joker. Whose genius idea is this?" Jer asked, looking at us.

"It's mine. I've always loved Batman," June said with a smile.

"Nobody told you to do so?" He asked, crossing his arms.

"Uhhh, no? Why is this so surprising to you?" June asked, utterly confused.

"I know what he wants to say," I snorted, and June looked at me. "Prince is the one who did the entire movie's soundtrack for Batman. He did serveral video clips too."

"He did?" June asked, her eyes widening. "I didn't even know that!"

"And you want a funny fact? In his video clip... I think it was Partyman if I remember well, he sniped at me."

"What? How?" June asked, visibly curious.

"Well, we shared this little rivalry you know, and when I did my movie Moonwalker, I wanted to joke around, and so I-- well, the kid version of me, asks where is Bubbles, and the manager answers that he was on the set with a Prince t-shirt."

"Genius move," Jer muttered, but June heard him, and threw a cushion at him. "What? I don't like the man!"

"You don't know him, so shut the eff up," June hissed. "Go on, baby," she gently said to me.

"Anyways, he answered me in his clip Partyman. He had a monkey dressed up in a Batman t-shirt to whom he gives a banana, and when the monkey peels the banana, you can see the word PSYCHE written on it. Voila."

"Damn," Dave laughed, "you guys are so violent," he ironically said.

"I didn't do that to hurt him in any ways, it was just funny to me," I honestly said, shrugging.

"I didn't know that," June chuckled. "You guys are crazy."

"Allow me to say that Prince is pretty damn sexy as the Joker though," Dave said, holding his hands in surrender.

"The hell?" Jeremy yelled, giving a look to his boyfriend. "I don't allow you! We don't like the guy, remember? What's the matter with you tonight? Are you in heat or something?"

"Okay guys, whatever," June stopped them, chuckling again.

As Tim's candy bag was getting bigger and bigger, we decided on going to one more house before returning home.

Well, Josh and Tim would return home. June and I had other plans.

I had other plans.

People in New York were quite generous when it comes to Halloween. It was my first time celebrating it here, and every single house we went to gave Timmy loads of candies, repeating us how good we looked.

I had a cold sweat though. While visiting a house, a man told me I looked like Michael Jackson, and I was kinda lost for words. Fortunately, Josh helped me out, and joked about it by saying something like 'Michael Jackson going trick or treating? Nahhh, the guy has more important things to do.' The man went along with this idea, and I was relieved when he dropped the subject.

I didn't want to be mobbed on this particular night. Any night, but just not this one.

We knocked on the final house, and a couple of seconds later, a cheerful teenager opened the front door.

"Oh wow, the entire Batman squad!" He chuckled, holding the door open.

"Trick or treat?" Tim asked with a creepy smile.

Seriously though. The Joker is creepy, no matter whose disguised as him.

"Lemme get my can-- oh, hello there," he trailed off once he took a good look at June. "I didn't know Batman had such a sexy woman by his side. I always thought Robin was more his type," he said, giving Josh a look.

"Well, you were wrong," June smiled a sarcastic smile, gripping my arm.

"Does Batgirl have a phone number?" He asked, trying to sound seductive.

"Uh, hello?" Michael said in a deep, unrecognizable voice. "I'm standing right here, and you're trying to seduce my girlfriend just before my eyes."

"And in the meantime, I'm waiting for my candies," Tim said, which caused June to chuckle behind her mask.

"You don't say that, son," Josh gently said to his son, suppressing a chuckle.

"Excuse me, we're out of candies," he rudely said before slamming the door in our face.

We all exchanged incredulous states, and started to walk away from the house.

"Well, that escalated quickly," Josh laughed, and we soon all joined in. "How old was he? Seventeen?"

"Barely. I swear, teenagers don't have any filters," June shook her head, chuckling. "Anyways, let's go home. It's getting late."

"Actually," I began, taking June hand in mine. "We're not going home. I have a little surprise for you."

"Oh, really? And this surprise doesn't imply us to get changed first?"

"Don't even think about getting changed," I muttered in a deep voice, a smile appearing on my face. "There's a place I want to show you. I used to go there all the time before."

"Uh, okay?" she unsurely said. "I guess we'll see you guys later? I'll pop over tomorrow, okay?"

"Sure," Josh smiled and gave her a hug. "Have a nice evening, crackpot."

"Good night weirdo," she answered with a smile. "And you, dread Joker, don't eat all of those candies in one night, or loads of monster will destroy your teeths, and make them fall off your mouth."

"Uhhhh!" Tim said in disgust.

While Tim and June were saying their goodbyes to each other, Josh pulled me in a friendly embrace.

"Good luck, man. Tomorrow she'll be Miss soon-to-be Jackson, I know it," he told me in a hush tone, and pulled away from me. "Have fun."

"Thanks, Josh," I smiled in return. "Have a good night."

"Bye uncle Michael!" Tim waved, as they walked away from us.

"Bye, bud!" I waved back, just as June.

When we arrived on the roof of the building facing the Flatiron, my heart was literally pounding in my chest, and the hand that was gripping June's was all sweaty from the nervousness I was feeling again.

"Where the hell are we?" June asked, as a blindfold was on her eyes.

I ignored her question for a few seconds, and made sure that everything was in place before I took off the blindfold off of her.

The red blanket was on the ground with a dozen of cushions spread all over it, along with a little basket next to it, and a few electronic candles lit at the center. Some other blankets were folded on the side, as we might need them in case the night was too cold.

It was perfect, just as I expected it to be.

Bill and Pit organized all of this under my commands, and I was happy of the result: I couldn't have done any better myself. I took a look behind me at Pit who gave me the thumb up while holding the recording camera in his hand. I smiled and gave him a curt nod, and he went back to his hiding position.

"See by yourself," I told June, removing the blindfold from her eyes.
She quietly gasped, bringing a hand over her mouth. She walked closer to the blanket and cushions, and turned to me with a giant smile on her beautiful, mask-free face.

"You did that for me?"

"I actually asked Bill and Pit to do it, in order that you don't ask questions. But I told them what to do," I explained with a smile, taking both of her hands in mine. "Do you like it?"

"Oh Michael," she sighed happily, "I love it. And I love you. So freaking much," she added, before crashing her lips on mine.

Without breaking our kiss, June removed the Batman mask from my face, and threw it on the ground.

"Thank you," she thanked me, and pecked my lips another time.

"This is just the beginning," I assured her, kissing her nose. "Come and have a seat."

I took June's hand and led her to the blanket where we both sat, snuggled close to each other. I wrapped a blanket around us, and poured us a glass of champagne.

"To us. To a fresh new begining," I declared, raising my glass.

"To you, the love of my life," June said, raising her glass as well.

I leaned down, and gave her a sweet, slow and romantic kiss as the butterflies in my stomach kept on multiplating.

I broke the kiss, and looked into her beautiful, loving eyes.

She's the one.

As I couldn't get enough of her, I set both of our champagne glasses aside, and kissed her again with love and a newly found passion.

Before the kiss become more heated, we were interrupted by the fireworks that went off on the Flatiron building.

This is my cue. I have three minutes.

"Oh my god, Michael!" She giggled, looking at me. "Are you the one responsible for that?"

"Yes," I smiled sincerely, rubbing her cheek. "I wanted to make this night special, because I just got you back and I wanted to show you how much I'm happy. I'm happy to be with you today, and I'm happy to have such a perfect woman in my life. You're... You're all I want, all I dream of, all I need. I need you to feel alive," I declared, and pecked her lips.

June's hand was rested on my cheek as she was listening closely to my words, her eyes wattering little by little.

"I don't ever want to be away from you purposely. Without you, I'm not myself. There's no me without you because you're a part of me. I'm not complete when you're not around, life has no sense when you're not with me. I'm such an idiot for realizing this so late, but now I realized how meaningless my life is when you're not a part of it. I want you to be with me forever, and if I have to go before you, I want my last word to be your name, because it's the most beautiful thing for me to say. I love you with all my being and soul, June Wellington, and now--"

The sound of firecrackers that sounded like a sub-machine guns were heard which caught June's attention as I expected it would, and finally, the gigantic sign rolled down on the face of the Flatiron building with a huge question written on it:

"June Wellington, will you marry me?"

I took out the small velvet box from my pocket, and opened it, allowing the shining diamond ring to glow.

June turned her shocked face towards me, once again, a hand covering her mouth.

"-- it's time for you to give an answer to the question on my sign."
