Part 58: I'm Still Standing

Michael's point of view

Dr. Warren arrived in June's room in a heartbeat, accompanied by a bunch of nurses by his side. He made his way to the side of her bed and check her vital parameters. I held Michelle in my arms, rubbing her back, as she was crying on my chest. I tried my best not to cry at the sight of June being in pain in front of me, but I couldn't help but shed a tear. She is the woman I love.
After Dr. Warren put some medicine in June's IV, she stopped convulsing, and opened her eyes. She looked scared as hell, and tried to remove the huge tube from her throat, which caused the beep coming from her heart monitor to speed up. Michelle left my arms and ran next to June's bed when she noticed she had her eyes opened, I followed behind her, trying to regain my composure.

"Baby, look at me," Michelle asked her with tears in her eyes, caressing her hair. "Calm down, doctor Warren here is going to remove this thing from your mouth, ok?"

June responded by blinking her teary eyes. She was squeezing her mom's hand tightly. I walked closer to her bed, and rubbed her leg. She laid her eyes on me, and cried even more. I noticed her eyes were full of sadness as she was looking deep into my eyes. Michelle took a step back, allowing me to take June's hand. I leant down and rubbed her cheek with my hand.

"You're awake," I whispered, tears running down my cheeks. "Relax, I'm right here. I'm not going anywhere." June answered by blinking her eyes, and squeezed my hand tighter. The look in her eyes broke my heart.

"We are going to take off the tube now, June." Dr. Warren spoke, which caused June to broke eye contact with me and looked at him. "It won't hurt, but you'll have to control your breathing so you don't choke, ok?" She blinked one more time. "I'm sorry, but I have to ask you to leave the room, Mr. Jackson and Mrs. Wellington." I nodded and placed a soft kiss on June's forehead, just as Michelle. I tried to take my hand back, but June won't let go of me.

"Hey, I'll be waiting outside. I'll be right back, ok?" I softly told her, then kissed the top of her hand. She looked at me with the same fear in her eyes, but let go of my hand. I gave her a little smile, and walked outside the door with Michelle.

"Thank God," Michelle sighed in relief, putting her hands on her knees.

"What happened?" Quincy asked me, running in my direction.

"She's awake," I declared with a smile. "She made it."

"Thank God! Is she fine?" He asked with relief in his voice.

"We don't know yet, the doctor is removing the breathing tube from her throat right now." Quincy nodded, and I turned my attention back to Michelle. "Are you ok?" I asked her, rubbing her back.

"Yeah, I guess. I hope she'll be fine now," Michelle said in a weak voice, straightening up.

"She'll be fine," I said, giving her a reassuring smile.

"We can't be sure about it, Michael."

"Knowing June, I know she'll be fine. She's a fighter."

June's point of view

What the hell happened to me? Why am I at the hospital now? The last thing I remember is Matt kissing me against my will in front of a bunch a paparazzi and threatening me. What the hell happened to him? Why was he acting like this? I don't even recognize him, he's not the friend I cared about. He disgusts me. What am I going to tell Michael? Is he going to believe me? That I didn't do anything wrong?

"Ms Wellington? Your heart rate is way to high, your heart shouldn't beat that fast while you're resting," Dr Warren said, listenning to my heart with his stethoscope. "I'll get you some tranquilizer. Do you have any allergies?"

I shook my head no, "W-What happened... to me?" I asked in a raspy voice, due to the tube which was in my throat a few minutes ago. "Wh-where's M-Michael?" I asked again as Doctor Warren gave me some medecine through my IV.

"Nurse, please tell Mr Jackson and Mrs. Wellington that they can come in." Dr Warren commanded and turned his attention back at me. "You had a panick attack while driving your car, and when the policemen found you, you were inconscious. You have a few scratches here and there and a broken wrist, but the worst part is that you were in a semi-coma, June." The doctor paused and looked at me with seriousness. "Your heart is really fragile. We found out while running some tests that you suffer a serious case of tachcardia, Ms Wellington."

"T-Tachycardia?" I stuttered, as Michael and my mother came in my room.

"Yes, but the good news is that we can treat it with medecines. You'll have a treatement to take eveyday." Dr Warren lightly smiles at me, and continued, "I'll come back later to check up on you and give you your prescription," he declared, as Michael and my mom enterred the room.

"Thanks" I whispered because of my sore throat.

Tachycardia? Julian had tachycardia, and he died from this. I know it's not quite the same thing, but it has the same name. There wasn't a treatment for Julian's disease, but there is for mine. Guess it's not that bad, right?

"Oh honey!" My mom sighed, running to my bed. "You scared me to death!" she cried, hugging me tightly.

"Mom, I can't breathe" I whispered in that raspy voice.

"Oh sorry," she nervously chuckled. "How are you feeling?" she asked me with concern, rubbing my cheek with her hand.

My stare crossed Michael's, and he looked at me with teary eyes. I feel so guilty even though I'm not responsible for what Matt did. "I'm ok, mom," I answered, cracking a smile, not breaking eye contact with Michael. My mom looked at me, then at Michael, then at me again. Guess she got the hint, because she told us she needed a coffee, and left the room, closing the door behind her.

"Michael," I whispered, as he walked closer to my bed. "I--" He cut me off by giving me a sweet but passionate kiss on the lips as a tear ran down his right cheek. I kissed him back, rubbing his forearm. This feels so good and right. When he pulled back, Michael rested his forehead on mine, and closed his eyes.

"I thought I'll never be able to do this anymore," he whispered.

"I'm here," I whispered back and paused a few seconds. "I heard you"

"What do you mean you heard me?" He asked, sitting on the edge on my bed, taking my non-injured hand in his.

"When you told me to hold on and to fight" I paused and smallowed. Fuck, this hurts! "When you told me that you couldn't live in a world where I don't belong. It gave me strenght to fight and to wake up."

"I meant every word, baby girl. Evey single word," he shyly said.

"I love you, Michael. I really, really do."

"And I love you even more," he answered, kissing the top of my hand. "Baby," Michael sighed, "what happened back then? Why did you panick?" Michael asked with concern in his voice as he rubbed the top of my hand.

I took a deep breath, and calmed down before staring at Michael's beautiful eyes.

Please Michael, don't blame me for this.
