XI. Eliminations

The day after, we were all gathered for an announcement. It was going to be about eliminations.

"We will be revealing the top 9 overall, with boys and girls combined. Also, the eliminations will be announced." Hongchul explained.

I had a feeling that I was going to be safe, since I was rank 47th. If my rank didn't go up, I'd be near to last since the eliminations were through ranks 100-170.

The first team, It's Ok, was called for eliminations. Their group was full of popular people, especially Hyojin. Only two people from that team got eliminated. The eliminations continued, with some of them extremely devastating that the whole waiting room shed tears. I hoped that our fate wouldn't end up like theirs, regardless of our messy performance.

"9ood 9irl--"

The monitor showed or team name and we all stood up to head to the place where the eliminations were being held.

"Let's hope the best." I said. "Thank you all for working hard."

"No, let's thank our leader for working hard the most even when you didn't know how to rap at first." Jihye said.

All of us did a group cheer and entered.

YG was sitting on his podium as we went up, standing in a line.

After saying a few words about our team, he named off the passes.

"Hwang Jihyun, you pass." He said.

"Park Haeyoung, pass."

"Lee Jieun, congratulations."

"Kim Hyunjung, pass."

One more at least.

YG stopped speaking. "The rest are eliminated."

I dropped my head low, I couldn't look at the three that were eliminated. My heart was filled with guilt.

Chohyun said a few words, which made me and the girls tear up, before I knew it, I was crying like crazy. We ended it with a bow on the floor, and I gave a hug to each of the members, and a group hug.

"I'm--going--t-to miss you." I said, giving one last hug to Jihye. The hardest part was letting your friends go and knowing you might not ever see them again.

"Leader-nim is crying so crazy." Jieun said, wiping her tears. She lightly hit my shoulder. "Stop, you're making me cry!"

I bit my lip and my cries calmed down. The four of us that passed watched as the three exited the stage, sitting down in the seats afterwards.

Part of me wished that I paid more attention to make them stand out more, maybe then they would've gotten more online votes and had passed.

Ryujin patted my shoulder once I sat down, my tears drying quickly after.

"Jihyun is such a crybaby--" Ryujin teased, wiping my tears.

I sighed and frowned. "It won't...happen again."

"You can't save everyone, that's how you mess up your whole team." Ryujin said.

"Chilsung, Born Hater!" Hongchul greeted as the group rose up.

I pouted. "3 times more points then us."

I assumed all of them would make it, but if anyone had to be eliminated it would be Jaeoh, since he wasn't very popular.

I looked at the production team, and that's when I realized one of the directors was holding a large board. I squinted my eyes to read the text on it.

HWANG JIHYUN, PLEASE COME HERE

"What?" I muttered to myself. "Now, when we're filming??"

"I think they really want you, whatever reason it is, it must be important." Ryujin said. "Go."

I silently stood up and went around, hoping the camera wouldn't catch me sneaking away. Jinyoung glanced at me in the middle of his speech, and I shook my head at him, signaling not to pay attention to me.

I reached to the director and they pulled me behind the cameras. Another lady took out a camera and started filming me. By now, all the mixnine contestants were looking at me.

"You have to go, we were contacted that your mother was about to go under surgery. Exit, exit, there's a ride waiting outside. Hurry." The director uttered out quickly.

My eyes widened, and I quickly bolted out of the exit. I was outside in the middle of winter without a jacket on, but I didn't mind. I had to get to my mother. They wouldn't do the surgery without letting me see her before, right??

I hopped in the car and it started up. "They won't let her do the surgery without seeing me first right? Right?" I asked the driver, who I didn't know of.

"I don't know, the doctors said to bring you quick, though."

I cursed under my breath. "Please go as fast as possible, sir."

"Will do." He said, speeding up.

The car parked on the side of the street in found of the hospital, and I ran out, heading to the front desk.

"Min Changsu, where is she??" I asked.

"She's getting ready for surgery, who are you?"

"Her daughter. Please let me see her!" I said quickly.

The lady told me the room number and I ran off, taking the stairs so I wouldn't have to wait for the elevator. I reached the door and opened it, not bothering to knock.

To my relief, my mother was still inside and awake.

"Mom..." I sighed and knelt by the bed.

"Jihyun, did you go out of filming to come? Why??" She asked.

"What do you mean why?! You're about to go under a dangerous surgery and they called me." I said.

My mom nodded and smiled. "I almost didn't make it yesterday, they decided they're going to take action."

"Y-you did?! What happened?? How come you didn't call me?!"

"It was a flash of death for me, I couldn't worry you. They decided to do the surgery and at least try."

I nodded. "Then you'll be saved, right?"

She nodded. "A 30% chance the surgery will go well."

My jaw dropped. "30%?! T-that's not enough! Mom, what if you don't make it??"

"It's worth the risk. It's either try and maybe fail, or not try and 100% fail. I'm far past saving without this surgery, Jihyun-ah." She held my hand.

My eyes started watering. "You're going to make it, right? The next time I'll see you, you'll be happy and healthy, right?"

"...right." My mom said, even if I could see the lie and guilt in her eyes.

That one tear soon turned into a waterfall. "Y-you have to live!"

"I will, honey." My mom said, shedding tears as well. "Don't cry, I won't die yet."

"I love you mom, you won't die." I said over and over again.

"I'm so proud of you. I was watching you earlier, I'm so proud." She smiled. "I saw you and said, that's my daughter. You've gone so far."

"And when I make it, you'll be still there, cheering me on, right?" I asked.

"Right." She said. "Here or...up there." My mother pointed at the ceiling.

I frowned and bawled even harder. "I don't want you to do the surgery...even if I'm being selfish."

"I have to. You don't want me to suffer any longer, and then die, don't you?"

"I don't!" I said. "Y-you can't--"

The doors opened and the doctors entered the room. They looked at the two of us with guilt.

"Please...be careful. She has to live, she has to!" I begged them. "Please..."

"We don't know what her fate will be, I'm afraid." The doctor said, making me cry even harder. "But your mother is strong."

I sniffled and nodded. "I love you mom." I careful engulfed her in a hug.

"I love you too. I love you so much. I'm so proud of you, and everything you've done. This isn't goodbye forever, okay sweetie? Don't cry, and focus on working hard for me, so I can see it next time." She said, wiping my tears with her thumb.

"Thank you mom. Thank you for taking care of me, I love you so much. I love you I love you--" I sobbed.

"I love you too. Now go, I'll see you soon, okay?" She gave me one last smile, before I parted from her arms.

"If the outcome is the best she will be awake in a week. You'll be able to see her then." The doctors said. "We will take care of her."

"P-please do. Please take care of her like she's your own mom, because she's never done anything wrong for the world and deserves only the best." I said, giving a sad smile.

"We will take her to surgery now, it's time for you to leave."

I wiped my tears and waved goodbye to my mom. "I love you."

"I love you too."
