VIII. Lead The Way
A/N: BOUT TO CRY RN BECAUSE I'M SOSSOOSOSOSOSOSO PROUD OF JINYOUNGIEEEEEEE (mixnine ep 14)
For the next days, practice went very smooth, and I worked hard as a leader for my team on choreographing the dance too.
We, the 9ood 9irl team, entered the room for our rap lessons. Girlboy was sitting inside coolly.
He looked at the papers and right to me. "You're the leader?"
I nodded.
"Why did your teammates choose the vocalist as the leader?" He asked and cocked his head to the side. "Seems like a thoughtless decision to me."
"Nope, she is very organized and we had no problems with her as a leader. She is also a good choreographer." Jieun said, earning a smile from me.
"We will see then." Girlboy said.
Our group started the rap, with me starting it. I've been working hard to improve my rap for the past days, and I think I have improved by a milestone. I had no clue I could rap, and I wished I learned harder earlier.
When the song ended, Girlboy pointed out some tips for each of the members. He stared at me for 10 seconds straight before talking.
"JYP..." He mumbled. "You're the vocalist,"
I laughed and nodded. "I was kicked out of the vocal team."
"...well I'm glad you were kicked out of the vocal team." He said. "How are you so good at rapping when you've never rapped before? Are you kidding me?? You're rap is so fast, yet smooth."
I shook my head. "I have never in my entire life, and when my teammates said I was good, I didn't believe them at all."
"You should. You're amazingly good." He praised and shook his head in disbelief. "You should continue like this, you'll only get better, no joke."
Are you serious?? Now that it was coming from the coach, I had no choice but to believe what everyone's been telling me.
"It's good so far. Good energy. The parts are well put together, good job, and good job especially to the leader." Girlboy said, standing up. "That's all, do continue like that. It will be good."
With that, the lessons wrapped up and we went back to practicing.
_
In the middle of doing the choreography, Hyunjung bursted out in tears. My heart clenched, if I led her better and paid more attention to her, she wouldn't have so much stress piled up on her.
But then again, I was balancing 50 problems at the same time, and it was hard for me to focus.
I sighed as the others were practicing. I was so tired. I slept a mere 30 minutes last night, and my head was killing me. I stepped out of the room to get a vitamin drink inside the vending machine.
Damn, my head hurts so much. I continued walking until I felt really lightheaded. I knew I was falling until my vision faded into black.
_
My eyes opened and I glanced around me. I was inside a small and brightly lit room. The pain in my head had subsided a little.
Someone nudged my shoulder and I squinted to make sure if I was seeing right.
"The nurse says you have to drink water." Woo Jinyoung said, holding a water bottle to my mouth.
I raised an eyebrow. "Why are you in here--"
He shoved the water bottle into my mouth and poured the water in. I nearly choked and lightly shoved his hand away.
"Are you crazy??" I asked, coughing.
"Ahhh!! Sorry! I didn't know I poured that much! Are you okay??" Jinyoung patted my back.
I nodded and sighed after my coughs subsided. "Why are you...here?"
"Because you passed out in the middle of the hallway. If I didn't catch you you'd probably crack your head open so you're welcome." Jinyoung said.
"How long has it been?" I asked.
"5 hours." He said.
My mouth dropped open. "I gotta blast. My team needs me."
"We already told them, calm down." He said, pushing my head back on the pillow. "You can't go anywhere, you'll pass out again."
"Are you stopping me so you could win??" I asked.
"What? No!" He said. "We're not even going against each other, why would I?"
I let out a huff of air. "I want to practice. My energy is up now since I slept."
Jinyoung sighed deeply. "Fine...but drink a lot of water and take medicine before you go at least. If you injure yourself before the battles, it'll be my fault."
"It won't be your fault, it will be mine." I said. "But thanks anyways for saving my butt."
Jinyoung nodded. "Anytime, darling."
Heat rose to my cheeks and I hit his shoulder. "I hate you."
"Juuuust kiddingggg." He grinned. "Okay, I'll go now." Jinyoung reached for my face and lightly patted my cheek, then he exited.
My face got even redder and I shook the thoughts out of my head, slapping myself. "Stop that." I said.
I huffed and suddenly remembered something. I looked around the room, scanning for cameras. I hope there are no cameras in here that caught that.
_
"9ood 9irl, please step up."
My members and I stepped on the small stage to reveal who our competitors were going to be.
I saw everyone's shocked faces when they saw my standing on the rap team.
"Leader Jihyun--"
More gasps. I saw Jinyoung's epic shocked face, and silently laughed, yet silently praying I wasn't going against his team.
"Any words before we announce your competitor? Who would you want to avoid the most?"
I looked at the Born Hater team. "We want to avoid Born Hater the most, all of their members are popular, and good rappers too."
We flipped the paper around and showed the contestants. Everyone showed shocked and blown-back reactions.
Please don't be born hater please don't be born hater please don't be born hater--
I turned the card around to my teammates and my heart dropped.
BORN HATER
We're screwed...I thought. The Born Hater team made their way onstage.
Kim Sangwon said a few words, teasing us by calling us the "Puss" team by accident.
"Plus, they have a vocalist for their leader...was that a good choice after all?" Sangwon asked with a smirk.
Everyone went "OOHHHH!!"
I fake laughed and gave him a deadpanned expression. "I'll show you all...the power of JYP." I said, whispering the JYP part.
Jinyoung took the microphone. "This is a surprise that we're competing against each other, Jihyunie-ah. I won't go easy on you even if we're friends."
"OHH!!"
"Woo Jinyoung-ahjussi, we'll eliminate you like back in Produce 101." I said, putting down the mic.
"AHAHA JINYOUNG!!" Jinyoung's team members started attacking Jinyoung with laughs. It seemed like that forgot we were competitors, for a second.
Jinyoung, who was obviously annoyed, took the mic and said. "I WON'T CATCH YOU THE NEXT TIME YOU PASS OUT IN THE HALLS!"
Everyone bursted out in hard laughs.
Hyunjung finally took the mic, and said, "That red shirt is bothering me, let me take it off for you."
"AHAHAHA ROASTED!!" I yelled to their team. I patted Hyunjung on the back and gave her a high five.
