BEFORE LAST NIGHT.

After the ranks were announced, along with the boys getting benefit points, Hongchul announced a third mission--a position battle.

There were 3 vocal songs, 4 dance songs, and 2 rap songs.

The song that came to catch my attention most was Boombayah by Blackpink. But of course, I knew many others had their eyes on that song too.

The rap songs were good too, even though I've never tried rap all too much before. Ryujin is a really good dancer, but she can't sing and she started learning to rap pretty late. I assumed she was going to choose Boombayah, and I wanted to avoid it. I wasn't a strong dancer like Ryujin, I'd get kicked out of the group in no time.

I wanted to prove that my vocals were good, too. I enjoyed singing more than dancing, but I was better at dancing than singing.

After the top ranks went off to choose their songs, my turn came. I stood in front of the poll box, still thinking. There were really good vocal songs, but I liked doing high notes best.

Slipping my paper inside the "2NE1, It Hurts", slot, and exited the room. I was satisfied with my decision, because it was also a popular song, which meant my votes could go up.

As I entered the room, multiple heads turned to me. I recognized a few as Hwangsook, and Minkyung, someone who I saw had a really good voice, from her audition. I suddenly felt smaller than the rest, as I was one of the youngest in the room.

A small introduction started, and we started discussing and trying out for parts. There would be those who would have to be kicked out and put into the rap teams.

I watched as a few girls started leaving. I felt bad for them, some have never rapped in their entire life before.

"Mmm...Hwang Jihyun? Can you try this..." Minkyung pointed to a spot on the paper. "Part?"

I nodded and started singing. I hit the high note well, but my singing was average.

I looked at everyone, and they seemed unsure. My heart dropped to my stomach.

"We have enough people who can do high notes...so you wouldn't really stand out, because your singing is..."

"Pretty average."

I sighed and nodded in understanding. Why do I keep being pushed lower? Am I working hard for nothing?

My cheeks burned with embarrassment as I walked out the room to the "My Number" one. It was going to be hard for me, since 1.) I didn't like the song, I'd rather be put in Puss, and 2.) I've tried rapping before but never worked hard on it.

I opened the door and everyone inside turned to me. Their faces lit up, and they yelled, "JYP!!!!"

I tried my hardest to smile and sat down with them.

"Okay, who has never rapped before?" Someone asked.

I shamefully raised my hand, along with 3 other members.

"You? You haven't rapped before?" Someone asked in surprise.

I nodded. "I got kicked out of the 'It hurts' team..."

"You should've done dancing! I saw you dance, it was so good."

"I wanted to take a risk, but I guess that didn't work out so well." I laughed.

"I see..." She said. "Well maybe you'll be good at rapping, you never know!"

"Okay, who wants to be the leader?"

The room got quiet.

"I suggest JYP!" Someone said.

"Ah...wait, uhm..." I looked at the rap on the paper.

"You don't have to be good at rapping to be the leader. You know kind of the basics of rap though, right?" A girl with long black hair asked.

"I have a feeling she is leader material."

I slightly grimaced and nodded. "Okay."

"Okay! Hwang Jihyun is the leader!"

I sighed and slumped my shoulders. This team and me are screwed.

"Okay, I guess first we should decide the parts?" I asked.

They nodded.

"Does anyone want a certain part?" I asked, looking at the paper.

"Me!" Someone said. "Lee Jieun."

"Okay, Jieun, try it." I said.

She started rapping, and I was blown away by how smooth it was.

Everyone clapped when she finished.

"Okay, does anyone think they can do better?" I asked.

"......."

"Okay! Jieun has that part then." I said, writing it down.

That continued until almost everyone had rap parts, except for me and Hyunjung. She was a vocalist who had never rapped before in her entire life.

"Okay...I guess this is good because there are two parts left, for me and you, Hyunjung." I said. "Do you want a certain one?"

"Mm...the...easiest?" She asked.

I scanned the two lines. "Well one has longer words but is shorter, but the other one is simple and long."

"I'll do the longer words but shorter then." She said.

"Okay, try it out. Don't worry if you're bad, you can't be worse than me." I said.

Everyone started laughing.

"No! I bet you're good." Hyunjung said.

I waved her comment away.

Hyunjung uneasily started rapping, and she many mistakes, but her attitude was good, especially the last part when she says, "Big picture."

I nodded. "Okay..."

Jieun raised her hand. "I can help her with it."

I nodded in agreement.

"Last is Jihyun then, right?" Someone said. "Do it! Do it! Do it!"

"Agh..." I wiped my sweaty temples and popped my neck to the side.

I started the part, trying my hardest to not get tongue tied and sound (swaggg~) at the same time. When it ended I slapped my cheeks in embarrassment and looked at my other members.

"WOOOHHHHH!!" They yelled.

"That was good!"

"It's not your first time, isn't it??"

"Are you sure you haven't rapped before??" Jieun asked, genuinely confused.

I narrowed my eyes at them. "Are you guys lying to me?"

"We swear we aren't, that was actually really good." Jieun said.

Part of me wanted to believe it, but I knew it couldn't be true. If it was, how did I never know I was good at rapping before??

Someone raised their hand. "I suggest we give her more parts."

"Wait what??" I asked. "You guys are serious about me being good??"

"YES!"

"You wouldn't lie to your leader right?" I asked sternly.

They shook their heads violently. "We wouldn't lie to our leader, geez."

It finally hit me that they were telling the truth and I leaned back onto the floor. "No way."

"Yes way!!" Jihye cheered and slapped a hand on my stomach.

"Yah! You dare hit your leader?" I said jokingly.

Everyone burst out in laughs. "Hwang Jihyun! Hwang Jihyun! Hwang Jihyun!"
