Chapter [2]
Salia smiled at the sight of Joy. Joy was being held in his mother's arms. He was indeed a bundle of joy when a smile spreads on his face.
"Salia?"
"Yes Ma?"
"Do you think you'd be able to help me for your little brother's true colors party?"
"Definitely!" The little troll smiled widely, clapping her hands in excitement. A "True Colors Party" was a time when a month year old baby celebrates their time of their colors blooming and becoming brighter. Salia remembered her own party, and it took her breath away. She didn't remember much about it, but she has seen pictures of it and it looked like it was a blast.
"C'mere," Salia's mother, Fawn, stood up while carrying her son, went outside with her hair holding a box of decorations as Salia followed. Some trolls went to help gather the party, some helped cook the food since they knew Fawn was tired from taking care of her new child that needs the most love and attention. Salia didn't mind her mother paying more attention to Joy, she cared for him just as much as her mother.
A few hours past and the party started. The sun was about to set in an hour, and everyone was exhausted but proud. In their village, everyone was family. It was worth seeing a single troll becoming happy.
Fawn looked around, searching for her husband, she held her daughter's hand in one hand and her son in the other. She looked down at Salia. "Salia, sweetie? You don't mind holding your baby brother for a while do you?"
"I don't mind, Ma." In fact, she was excited. Salia practiced carrying something similar to an actual baby troll just to make sure she wouldn't drop him. Sometimes, Salia would try to do her best to become stronger by drinking much more milk as suggested by her own mother.
With Joy in her arms, Joy was fast asleep. He was snoring quietly and peacefully. The two sweet trolls were at the very edge of a cliff, the very edge of the village. Salia tried her best not to wake him up and carefully sit down on a log and cradle him slowly and carefully. She tried singing a soft song, a song that was once being sung by her father to her mother when they were younger.
"Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you?
Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you." She had just noticed that her brother has woken up. She looked down at him as he was giggling but also whining slightly.
She then noticed that his eyes were kind of glowing, his hair as well. His eyes were becoming greener and brighter. Salia knew it was happening. She went to scream out for her ma and pa, but as she got up, a loud thud was heard; the sound of large branches and trees and pods crashing onto the ground. Joy stopped glowing, suddenly crying. Joy was in the center of bright and dark colors. He was mixed.
"No no no no-!" Salia held Joy to her chest carefully and cradled him to sooth him. She looked up to see the trees of her village collapsing to the ground, one of the pods her home. Salia didn't know where her mother and father was. She thought of screaming to them, but she was afraid it was gonna scare Joy even more.
She quickly ran to her village but only saw fire surrounding the place. She tried to look around but she didn't want to risk hurting Joy. The fire cornered her at the edge of the cliff, leaving herself and Joy to be alone. Joy cried louder. Joy was scared. He was sad and confused.
But with a hint of miracle, rain poured down and stopped the fire. With Salia's instincts, she used her hair as an umbrella for her and Joy. Salia quickly ran back into the village after the fire was gone.
The grass was dead and black, the trees and leaves looked gloomy and weak, the pods were broken and the decorations were scattered. Salia looked around, searching for her parents and friends.
"Ma?" She screamed, but not too loudly. "Pa?"
Nothing but silence answered her. Salia started to cry, her colors almost fading to grey. But as she hung her head down and saw Joy no longer crying, she was motivated to stay strong. She kept a promise from her ma, to always take care of Joy.
Salia searches around the ashes, trying to see f there was anything left of her home. She kept Joy in her arms, never leaving him anyway but her sight.
Salia was surprised to see that no one was even around. She wondered if everyone left. She wondered if her parents actually abandoned them. She sighed and hugged Joy to her chest.
Salia enjoyed hugs from her mother. It always comforted whenever she sometimes feels down. It felt the same way just as the way she had Joy in her own arms.
