Cara= Friend in Gaelic

     I sat up from upon his shoulder as somebody called his name angrily.

His name! I' will know who he is!

Knots twisted in my stomach. What if I did not want to know who it was?

"Drostan!", a male voice called out in the darkness. "Drostan!"

A rough hand jostled me. "Wake up!", Augun said, wiping the sleep from my eyes. "For the two minutes that you were asleep, I must say that you slept like a Viking!", he exclaimed as we brought our horses forward. "How so?", I asked.

"You snore."

"Oh.", I chuckled humorously.

"I must help my men, so Dargess will be your escort to the stables. But only once!", he said as he punted a finger at me, before walking away from me.

Dargess?

I could not shake the feeling of confusion from me. I felt like he knew something. Anything. He had to.

Dargess quickly joined me. "My lady.", he joked as he stretched a hand in front of him.

I reluctantly walked into the stables, but stopped in my tracks when I noticed that he had no horse.

"Where is your horse?", I asked nervously.

"Augun. He believes that I should focus on protecting you more than my horse, so he took it."

"Oh."

I put Duke in his stall and removed his blankets. Slowly, I exited the stables, putting Duke's blankets in a wooden chest on the outside of the barn.

I walked into the darkened stable, using the early morning moon as my light source. The smell of the horses comforted me, for the they felt my presence to be calming and kind.

I looked over to see Dargess sitting on the bench at the end of the barn. He wore the exact outfit from my dream.

"When did you put that on?", I asked him.

"I have had it on all morning.", he replied, his body in the same position as in my dream.

I walked over to him and sat down beside him, slouching down and staring into the darkness.

"What is your name?", I asked uncontrollably.

"Wha-uh? You know such things already.", he replied, stuttering.

"No", I whispered calmly, once again, in an uncontrollable slip of my tongue.

He sat up straight, his back aligned with the stone wall.

"Alright. But I cannot tell you."

"Oh.", I laid my head on his shoulder, the rough seams of his riding jacket poking my ear ever so slightly.

He looked down at me and then turned his head back to where he was staring before.

"Sorry. I am just tired.", I whispered.

"It is alright.", he whispered in return.

"Please do not be cross with me. It is for my protection."

"Your protection?", I asked, not changing position.

He sighed, as if I had already broken through his protective barrier and began to speak. "When I was a young lad, I ran away from home. What was left of it. My family was gone and my village was destroyed. I had no where to go. Eventually, I stumbled into a group of Vikings and they captured me, bringing me to Jorvík. Within several years, Augun had become the Jarl and he trained me. He said that I should make myself useful. And now I am here, talking to you, and telling the truth.", he raised his head and met my eyes. I did not like when we could stare into each other's eyes. I felt that he could see what he was thinking.

"Drostan.", I blurted.

"What?" he asked in shock.

"Drostan. That is your name. Have you been lieng to all of the Vikings?", I asked worriedly.

"No. They know my name."

"Why did you hide it from me? Who are you running from? I know that you told me the truth, but you did not tell me all of it."

"Please, do not ask such things."

"I thought we were caras! Please! I will not say a word to anybody. You can trust me."

He stopped in his tracks. "You thought we were caras.", he retorted as he started out of the barn.

"Are we not?", I asked, hurt. "No.", he barked.

"Why?"

He turned around and started towards me. Before I could comprehend what was happening, his lips pressed against mine. He tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear and ran his finger delicately along my chin, gently bringing my head upward before he pulled away.

"Trust me."
