Emma stared at the shadowy figure, Night's Sky apparently, just stared at them with it's unnervingly familiar eyes. It looked very hostile, but unmoving. Emma looked at Mist. She looked very tense, not taking her eyes off of the apparition before us.

"Nice to see you again, Misty." The voice that came from the being was not like any

other voice she'd heard before. It almost sounded broken, like it was coming through a bad walkie talkie but clearer, less static, and more voices speaking different languages in the background.

Mist stiffened even more at the sound of the name. "You know that's not my name!" she yelled at the thing.

"Always was to me at least. Who's your little friend?"

Quietly, Emma stepped behind Mist so she would be blocked from view. It didn't seem to matter because she still felt the ghostly stare from the entity.

"What are we going to do?" Emma whispered to Mist, who's tail flicked slightly to show that she had heard her.

"Her name is Emma."

"Cute name," Night's Sky moved so Emma could see them better, "It would be a pity if something were to happen to her..." A murderous grin crept along her face, her thirst for blood was strong and sent a cold shiver down Emma's spine.

Mist was visibly nervous, faintly she murmured to Emma, "When I say go, run." Emma nodded, hoping that they could both make it out of this situation safely.

"Look Sky, you don't need to do anything to hurt anyone. Let's just talk this out."

"Oh but it's been so long! You thought you could get away from me, from all the fun we had with your other friends. No Misty, I can't just pass up this golden opportunity." Night's Sky started walking closer to the two, causing them to take a few steps back.

"P-please, I don't want any trouble..." Emma managed to cough out.

"Oh but with me, trouble is all you'll get." Night's Sky walked closer and closer, at this point Emma and Mist were basically pinned to the trees.

"Sky, I think you should just GO!" Mist summoned all the magic she could and aimed it at Night's Sky. Emma leaped as far as she could, reluctantly leaving Mist behind her. She could hear Mist yelling at her to keep running and not to stop but eventually exhaustion overcame her and she had to catch her breath.

Luckily no one had followed her but the sadness of possibly never seeing Mist again was too much. She had lost her mother when she was very young, her father and sister left her not long after that. She had to fend for herself, only feeling like she belonged when she met her friends in the forest. But they weren't here right now and the feeling of being ok again came shortly after she met Mist. Now mist was gone too and it was her fault. She started to cry, she was alone again, truly alone.

Mist's blast of magic made Sky take a stumble back, and that was it. They straightened up, eyes mocking as they said, "Is that all you got? I'm disappointed. Well, if it's a fight you want, you'll get it."

The entity footed into the air, chanting, dark ribbons of magic flowing around them. Mist knew that she needed to bide Emma enough time for Sky to lose interest in her, which could be harder than she could hope.

Mist dodged a blast of dark magic, summoning a long chain, and whipping it around them and pulling the shadow to the ground, hard.

Sky's amber eyes filled with anger as they teleported away, only to find that the chain was still around them, and their face in the dirt a second later. Mist grunted with the effort of trying to keep the entity from doing anything dangerous, but was unprepared when Night's Sky broke the chain keeping it from doing anything and used it against Mist, throwing her to the ground.

Spitting dirt out her mouth, Mist rolled over, summoning a forcefield, just in time to block a vicious attack from Sky. Teleporting away, Mist leaned against a tree, the inveries she already had smarting painfully.

Sky teleported in front of her, eyes glittering maulishously. "Since when have you been so shy?"

"Never," Mist grabbed the apparition's smoky substance with her magic, and threw them against a tree. The tree's bark cracked as Mist flung the entity to the ground, and blasted the crater with at least ten strong blasts of magic.

Thinking it was over, Mist turned away from the burned indent and started walking away, only to hear laughter coming from the now disfigured thing behind her. The laughter was unnerving, and when Mist turned around, Sky was right there, a dark knife in one hand, shadowy magic in the other.

"I missed you, Misty." Sky said as they used their magic to keep her from moving, "It's a shame that we have to do this the hard way."

Mist swallowed, "What do you mean?"

"You already know, don't you," Night's Sky laughed their horrible laugh again and simply said, "It's nice to see you again."

Mist tried to struggle, but it was too late. Mist fell to the ground, screaming, only to be silenced. Sky took full control of her alter's body, stood up, Mist old wounds healed unnaturally fast, and they smiled and said in Mist's voice, "I'm back."

Slowly, Emma got back on her feet, as much as she wanted to wake up from this nightmare, she knew she couldn't and she knew she had to get out of here, with or without Mist.

Walking through the forest, she found it all eerily quiet. It felt similar to how it felt when she went to the portal the first time. The wind around her was cold and slow. Not a single bird made a noise.

CRACK!

Emma froze.

SNAP! CRACK!

Emma started panicking, she knew she needed to get out of there but she couldn't. She was to paralized in fear.

SNAP! SNAP!

Desperately looking for somewhere to go, she found a small indent in the side of a tree, just big enough for her to hide in.

CRACK! SNAP! CRACK!

Emma quickly snuck into the small area and closed her eyes. She was scared that whatever was coming closer could hear her fast heartbeat.

"Emma? Emma are you over here?"

'Mist! Thank heavens!' Emma took a deep breath and got out of her hiding place. She ran towards Mist and gave her a big hug.

"I thought you were gone for good!" Emma said with shaky breath.

"Don't worry, I'm back. I got rid of Night's Sky too! We won't have to worry about them anymore."

"So what's our next plan?"

"I say we go back to the portal and get you home." Mist gave Emma a smile, it seemed forced but she ignored it, just happy to have her friend back.

"Are you sure we'll be able to make it? Last time we almost died..."

"Yes! Yes I'm sure. I also want to come back with you home! I'm tired of being here."

"Ok..."

As they walked, Emma started having doubts, Mist had made it clear that she couldn't go back with Emma even if she wanted to and now she seemed eager to go. Emma wanted to chalk it up to not wanting Night's Sky to find her again but she knew better. It also felt like Mist was trying too hard to be herself. Stopping in the middle of their walk, Emma glared at Mist. Mist stopped, annoyed and looked at Emma.

"What."

"What are you trying to do, Night's-Sky, or should I say, Misty-Sky?"

Misty-Sky grinned, a very inhuman grin. She started to laugh, it was unnerving and sounded like echoes coming from everywhere. A cold wind blew, chilling Emma to the bone.

"You're clever. Smarter than the others at least."

"You mean the people you killed?" Emma yelled, eyes glinting red.

Misty-Sky didn't seem to notice Emma's eyes. "Maybe. I've killed a lot of people, which one?"

"All of them! What is your problem?!" Emma's anger and fear was obvious. She was done being hunted down by people and people hurting her friends.

"My problem is you." Misty-Sky attacked, blasting dark bands of magic at Emma, who barely dodged, "You are the key out of here, but you won't corporate."

"Never will!" Emma yelled, sending some red blasts of magic at Misty-Sky, who teleported away.

Misty-Sky looked around for Emma, who hid behind a tree. Misty-Sky stood stock still for a second, before beginning to prowl around, silently, saying, "Come here Emma...."

Emma looked up at the tree and climbed up it and looked around for more options. Spying some acorns, she picked some and threw one at a bush nearby.

Misty-Sky looked in that direction and pounced, at the bush to quickly realize that they'd made a mistake that Emma wasn't in the bramble bush.

Emma carefully cursed the acorn she was holding, it started glowing red and she quickly threw it at Misty-Sky. It hit her wing, and burned some feathers off.

"Ow!" Misty-Sky looked in the direction the acorn had come from, but saw nothing but leaves. Pulling themselves out of the brambles, they blasted the tree Emma was hiding in, causing it to shake, and begin to fall.

Out of sheer panic, Emma teleported right behind Misty-Sky, and instantly regretted it. Not only did Misty-Sky turn and grab Emma's jacket and pulled the shortie into view, but Emma felt exhausted. "Found you."

Emma looked around, panic filling her. Emma grabbled the possessed Mist's arm and tried to make her let go, but nothing worked.

"Aw. How cute. She's still trying to fight," Misty-Sky said, not paying attention as Emma let one of her hands fall, to her pocket, and grab the knife she's taken from the stronghold that Mist and Emma tried to infiltrate earlier. Quickly, she razed the knife, and cut Misty-Sky's arm above the wrist. They dropped Emma, yelping in pain.

Emma rolled out of the way, the knife still gripped firmly in her hand. Standing up, she pointed the knife at Misty-Sky, "Why do you want to hurt me and Mist so badly? What did we do?" trying to get the villain monologuing.

"You are my way out of this place, as I've said, and Mist deserves this. She's done something to me that can't be undone. This is her punishment for what she did."

"What did she do?" trying to keep Misty-Sky talking.

"That's between Mist and I."

Misty-Sky was done talking and they sent a blast of dark magic in Emma's direction. Emma dodged, and thought about how to get out of this situation without hurting Mist more than she already had. Emma sent a small blast of red magic Misty-Sky's way and jumped into another bush, hiding herself from view.

The diversion didn't work though, Misty-Sky dodged the attack, and ran to the bush, eyes glowing a very pale shade of amber.

Emma tried to jump out of the bush, but her jacket was caught on one of the branches of the plant. Smiling nervously, Emma pulled herself free and just in time to dodge another attack from Misty-Sky.

Taking a defensive stance, Emma let her magic flow through herself and into the knife. When Misty-Sky sent another blast of magic at Emma, she was ready. Quickly, Emma raised her weapon to block the attack and send it right back at her opponent.

Misty-Sky shrieked when the bolt of dark magic hit them, the blast making them fall backwards and slide a few feet. They lay there stunned for a second, but that was just enough for Mist to take control of her body and start the spell to get the entity out.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mist opened her eyes, she was in her mindscape. Her body ached and now her arm hurt too, why did it hurt? She looked up, searching for Emma. Night's Sky still had control but it was slipping. Mist couldn't remember what had happened the whole time Night's sky had control but she knew it couldn't have been good. She felt the energy of magic twirl around their body, 'Night's Sky is planning a big attack. Where's Emma? She needs to get out of the way.'

She watched her friend doge and weave, much faster than her other friends had. She saw the battle going on in front of her but she could do nothing to stop it. Much longer than she thought it would happen, Emma backed herself into a corner, accidentally catching on a bush. Mist cringed, not ready to watch what would soon be the fate of the first person that actually cared about her in years. She remembered how Emma had comforted her when she thought all was lost, how she helped heal her wing, and how excited she had been when her voice started to come back. She desperately wanted to take back control and stop Night's sky from killing Emma but she was trapped in her mindscape, with no way out.

But then something happened, Something she was even less prepared for.

She watched Emma pull out the small blade she had been carrying for so long, convinced it would come in handy, and raised it up. When the magic shot at her the blade's strong metal reflected the blast. Mist watched as it came directly at her.

Her eyes lit up as her body fell backwards, she might have a way out after all.

The moment that Night's Sky hesitated, Mist took control, using the little energy in her for one last spell to get Night's Sky out.

And it worked.

Mist fell to the ground, exhausted and weak. She looked over at Emma who somehow must have been able to tell something had changed because she looked over and smiled.

Emma came running over and helped Mist get to a tree. She leaned against it and just closed her eyes.

Emma sat down next to the tree, wishing she could help Mist defeat her enemy.

They sat there for a long while, Emma hoping that Mist would win, Mist fighting until the sun began to set over the trees, and Emma decided to get a fire started. She walked around, gathering fallen branches and thinking about home and her friends. When she got the fire started, she sat down again.

Mist groaned quietly, indicating that the battle was not going too well. Emma grabbed Mist's arm, clumsily sending magic into her friend, hoping it would help, while trying out the magic she was not accustomed to. Mist twitched and some color returned to her face. Emma relaxed, tired of all the magic she'd used that day. She let herself fall into a blissful sleep.
