Your first breath enlightened me. 

Your first steps brightened me. 

Your first word was my own. 

I can even still remember your first ice-cream cone. 

Your first day of school was emotional. 

Your first friend was too. 

Our first dog, he was your favorite. 

Don't speed through life, my dear, you need to savor it. 

Your first teacher, he was a bit too cruel. 

Second grade was the first time you thought you were kind of cool. 

The first time camping was kind of a mess. 

That's when you realized: more can be better than less. 

Your first time to the high school wasn't the greatest. 

Your first boyfriend wasn't either. (Can't help you there, love.)

But you figured your way through it. 

You always made it work. 

And as I watched you from high above, 

I realized: you were the first human to get me to love.
