MistKit crouches under a bush and watches as SapphireKit cuddles with FernTail. She tenses her muscles and pounces on SapphireKit. "Ow, get OFF!" She screeches. MistKit purrs and bites SapphireKit's tail. "You two are so cute" FernTail purrs proudly. "Mom?" SapphireKit asks. FernTail flinches at that label. "Yes, honey?" She chokes on her purr. "When can we eat mice?" She asks FernTail. "In a matter of time, in a matter of time" FernTail says sadly.
*** Later that night ***
As the sun set, FernTail creeped out of the Nursery to a light grey tabby sitting in the dark. "You wanted me?" The silhouette asks FernTail. "Yes, EchoSong, I can't have your kits call me 'mom'. It's not my job, it's yours" FernTail meows quickly and softly in the dark. EchoSong looks up and replies "why not? I just can't have the kits in danger, you remember our mother" EchoSong softly mews. "She died because of us" FernTail whispers in the cold night air. "Not because, for us" EchoSong meows.
