Prolougue
"Here", SpeckledDawn murmured through the stick in her jaws before she laid it down at ShadedMoss's feet. "TawnySpots told me to fetch you this so when the pains come you can bite down on it"
ShadedMoss blinked gratefully taking the stick into her jaws as a sudden jolt of pain rang through her bones. She gritted her teeth, concentrating on not crying out as another wave of pain crashed over her.
"Are kitings always this hard," she gasped through the pain.
SpeckledDawn closed her eyes, remembering her own kiting. "Not always, but it's your first time, it'll get easier with time, I promise." She hope she was right, she didn't want to lose her friend so soon.
The ferns to the nursery rustled as TawnySpots padded in with a mouthful of green fuzzy-looking leaves. She caught SpeckledDawn's look and sat the pile down. "Borage leaves," she said "They'll help your milk come"
ShadedMoss lapped up the leaves, cringing at the fowl taste. She had just finished them off as a pain shuddered through her.
TawnySpots stood, "They're coming," she said before pacing her paws on ShadedMoss's abdomen.
"There's one," SpeckledDawn announced happily. "A little she-kit, and she looks just like you!" SpeckledDawn purred.
"There is one more," Tawnyspots said as another wave of pain crashed over ShadedMoss. "And there she is," Tawnyspots purred as a tiny wet bundle of black fluff slithered out onto the nest of moss and feathers.
"Oh they're beautiful!," ShadedMoss exclaimed, closing her eyes.
"Should I get ArcheStorm?," SpeckledDawn queried.
"No, She needs her rest, and so do you, it was a difficult kitting for all of us."
