Chapter 26. A Change In The Weather.

As the Yule Ball grows closer, so does the second task. The only difference between now and then is the weather. Winter is dawning on us fast and it's only a matter of time before the first snow fall of the season.

I've never minded the snow. It costs everything in a beautiful blanket of white and the sun beaming down on it makes it shine. My mother always taught me to be thankful for all the different types of weather. They're what helps this world grow and maintain itself after all.

I wonder what this winter season has in store for us. I've met with Hermione a few more times to study for our upcoming exams and she seems positively happy to have someone by her side who is as into studying as she is.

Professor Snape has been keeping a close eye on all of us since we talked about a week ago. He also seems to have noticed Mad-Eye Moody always staring at Harry and drinking from that same flask as he always does.

I'm still not sure what his infatuation with Harry could be, but as his partner for this year I intend to make sure we both make it through this. Wether that is keeping ourselves safe from these impossible tasks or the crazy teachers themselves.

I saw how that Lockheart guy was obsessed with Harry in the second year because of Harry's fame of being the Boy Who Lived. It was absolutely ridiculous if you ask me. Leeching fame off a 12 year old. He bowling's in jail in my opinion.

I am currently sitting in my dorm staring at the golden egg. Harry and I plan to take Pansy and Hermione to the lake with our eggs as well to ponder over what they could mean.

Maybe the four of us could figure it out together. We only have a short amount of time to figure it out before the second task. Not to mention we have to find ourselves a date for the Yule Ball because apparently the three, now four people who are in the TriWizard Tournament are the first to dance to get the Ball started.

Part of me wants to ask Pansy because she's my usual go to for these types of things, but there's another part of me that wants to ask Hermione, but I could just imagine my fathers reaction if he finds out in the paper that I was dancing with a Muggle born.

I shake my head a growl in annoyance. This is all too much. How do they expect us kids to figure this out? Were 14 for goodness sake.

I finally give up for the night and set my golden eggs down on my dresser before going to bed for the night. We plan on going to the lake tomorrow after meeting with our brooms on the Astronomy tower.

We're only taking two brooms so the girls will have to ride with us when we fly over towards the lake. I lay down and close my eyes and allow myself to fade into a dreamless sleep.

I wake to Blaise knocking on my door to wake me up. I quickly get up and get ready before heading down into the common room to meet up with the others. Without so much as a hello the three of us start to make our way out of the door and to the Great Hall for breakfast.

" Up late staring at the egg again?" Asks Pansy.

" Why do you ask me questions you already know the answer to?" I said back to her.

She smiles. " We will figure this out tonight. Don't you worry. " she said.

I scoffed. " Worried, I'm not worried. " I lie.

" Sure you're not. " she said before walking ahead of me to talk with Blaise.

I sigh and shake my head. After breakfast we head to our first class. I realize during the first class that I can't get my mind to focus on anything today. I'm stuck on wondering what the screeching from the egg could mean.

I can see Pansy and Blaise are taking extra notes for me. I'm thankful to have them for friends. They can always tell when I'm not at my best, which is a rare sight indeed.

As we are walking down a hallway I look outside and notice that it's finally here. The first snowfall of the season. It's not a thick snowfall but it still leaves it's traces on the ground.

I smile and point it out to my friends. They see and smile as well. As kids we used to love going out and making forts in the snow and having snowball fights.

Doing snow angels, making snowmen. Then our moms would call us inside and we'd change into our warmest clothes they heated with a small heating spell and enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate with mini marshmallows in it.

It was one and still is one of my favorite things to enjoy. My mother still makes it for me on occasion when the weather is just right for it. Otherwise it doesn't have the warming effect that you want from it.

That also means it's going to be colder tonight so we will have to dress in more layers than I originally thought and since we will be by the lake. It wouldn't hurt to bring along a blanket and maybe a spare set of clothes each in case we get wet. We don't want to get sick after all.

I share a knowing look with Pansy and she seems to be thinking through the same things I'm thinking. We may even help ourselves to a small treat afterwards.

I do have my own house elf that works here that belonged to my house. I sometimes call her in the middle of the night when I need something or my sweet tooth calls for a treat. Maybe I'll treat everyone to some hot chocolate afterwards.

With that last thought the three of us leave the window and head to our next class.
