Chapter Three

<ADRIENS POV>

Marinette's determination to get the song right drove us past dinner and had us arriving when Kagami was finishing her dessert. My girlfriend glares at my friend, upper lip twitching toward an expression like a sneer, and, when I glance over, Marinette is looking at the floor.

I slide Marinette's chair out for her before sitting in my own, calling for some food to be brought to us. As I pick at my plate, trying to eat the healthiest pieces out, I notice Marinette staring wistfully into her own dish.

"Is there something wrong?" I ask, glancing at her food for some sign of mold or age.

She shakes her head, staying quiet for a moment, before muttering, "I think I'm going to visit my parents tomorrow. So I don't bother your schedule."

Kagami snorts, and I shoot her a glare before saying, "You're not bothering us."

Kagami sucks in her cheeks and leans back in her chair, picking at her nails. "Speak for yourself."

I stand up, pushing my chair back with my knees. "Kagami!" I scold.

She just rolls her eyes and leaves the room, probably heading toward our room. I inhale a breath and sit back down, tugging my chair under me again.

"I'm sorry," Marinette says after a moment. "I've caused trouble here. I'll try to—"

"Marinette," I say, cutting her off. "Please don't think you've caused me anything but joy today."

There's an inhale from where she sits at the table, and she picks up her fork and starts putting food in her mouth. I spear my fork through a piece of lettuce, watching as the holes spurt liquid and the space beneath darken where the teeth of the fork stay. I swallow and eat it, trying not to relate my feelings to food.

"You didn't have to be a jerk," I mutter, opening the door and tying my sweatpants around my waist. "Marinette hasn't done anything to deserve your wrath."

"She doesn't deserve your kindness, either," Kagami mutters, brushing her hair and watching me through the mirror in front of her.

I sigh. "What happened to us?"

"What does that mean?" she asks, turning in her seat, looking at me through her brows.

"You used to at least be able to stand Marinette," I snap. "Why can't you at least act like you don't mind her being here?"

"I don't mind," she scowls, turning back around and continuing to brush her hair.

"Well, you sure don't act like that," I sneer. "She's my friend. Can't you respect that?"

She huffs a sigh and closes her eyes at the mirror. There's a moment before she says softly, "You do know she had a crush on you in high school, right?"

I inhale a breath, trying to mask it with turning and washing my face in the sink. "Does it matter?"

"What if those feelings didn't go away?" (A/N: Gorel, please)

"Does it matter ?" I repeat, drying my face on a small towel a chucking it into a hamper. "If I love you, she isn't a threat to your 'property'."

I see her lip twitch as she makes eye contact with me in the mirror, and I know I've hit a nerve.

"Are you trying to be annoying," she sneers.

"I could ask the same to you."

She sucks in her cheeks, and I know she's trying really hard not to blow up. I keep my features icy, expecting it to be a struggle, but it's not.

"You're just—"

"If you can't respect my friends, you can sleep in another room," I say, pointing to the door.

She grabs her brush and storms away. I don't watch her leave, although I can feel her pause in the doorframe, wanting to say something more, defend herself, but she just slams it behind her and walks down the hall. I throw the covers back and sleep with the covers pulled tight around

<MARINETTES POV>

I hear Kagami storm down the hall, slamming the door in the room next to mine. I wonder quietly to myself how many rooms there are in this house. It seems a lot like a hotel, if you think about it.

I hear something, my heart skipping a beat. I stand and walk into the hallway, following the noise. Right as it seems to get louder—

"Miss Dupian Cheng."

I jump and spin. "Nathalie—"

"Mr. Agreste is okay," she assures me, reaching for my hand. I see pain in her eyes as she moves her face forward, tilting it so the light hits her glasses perfectly. "He's just upset about what happened with Kagami. I'll tell him you were worried tomorrow. Now, come, let's go back to your room."

I swallow and nod, letting her walk me back to my room. Her hand is warm in mine, holding it tightly.

"What happened?" I ask quietly.

Her lips part like she's going to tell me before murmuring, "That's not my story to tell."

I smile at her kindness toward Adrien. I bite my lip, feeling tears threatening to come to my eyes at the idea of Adrien being upset. I look away, breathing through my mouth.

"Miss Dupain Cheng? If I could offer some advice," Nathalie says, squeezing my hand slightly as we reach my room. "Love doesn't get easier if you don't say something."

My eyes widen as she gives me a knowing smile, releasing my hand and pushing me into my room, leaving down the hall. I blink after her, licking my lips. Goosebumps start to freckle my skin, causing me to shiver and hurry into my bed. I fiddle with the sheets in front of my face, my wet lashes brushing my cheeks slightly.

How did she know?

My mind flashes to Adrien's father. Nathalie...

I think I was planning onto adding to that sentence but I was just like "Nah I think that's good."

I'll start typing now to make up for all of the days I missed! I'm so sorry for not posting, my excuses sound so lame so I just won't try XD
