Chapter 8
It was a beautiful day to paint. The sun was going down slowly, the trees looked happy and little Henrique is definitely enjoying himself.
After a long day inside I decided to spend my evening in the garden pool gazebo. Not only is the place breathtaking, it was is also very cool around this time of the day.
I looked down at Henrique who is on a blanket. He looks very happy playing with his toys and not giving me any attention. Just before we came out I fed him and showered him, so he was more than happy.
Smiling I sat down on the grass on a separate blanket. I pulled my art box close to me. I smile as I was opening the box. Painting and Drawing had been my two favourite hobbies when growing up and I still loved doing it.
I lifted up a small paintbrush and bushed it against my bear legs. I lifted out the container of paintbrushes, painting palettes and a canvas and place them on the grass.
I looked around the garden for an inspiration. My spot the gazebo, it looked easy and simply beautiful.
After an hour or so Henrique started to make some weird sounds. I looked over at him to see what he was doing but his attention was looking straight ahead in the direction we came from. Following his gaze, I found the reason for his noise.
His brother stood with his hands in his pants pockets watching us.
Here we go again.
He always comes and sneaks up on me. I knew he didn't trust me but come on. He could say 'Hi' sometimes.
When he saw me looking at him, he starts to move closer towards us.
"I know don't trust me, but you don't have to keep creeping up on us every time. I'm not going to hurt him or treat him badly if that's what you're worried about."
"You're right about the I don't trust you part, but I don't think you'll hurt him." He assured. Well, at least we got that out of the air.
"I don't trust you either."
"You don't have to trust me." He stressed.
"I don't." How could I trust a man who made my life worst that it was before?
"Good." Shaking his head. "Anyways that's not why I'm here. I've set the appointment for the test, it will be tomorrow at 11 am. I'll bring you to the clinic, the result usually takes a week or so, maybe longer to get back."
A smile lit up my face. "Perfect! Now you'll know that I'm not his mother and I am in fact his aunt.
He glazed then muttered an 'hmm' sound. He looked down at the artwork in front of me. His eyes widen with surprise as he saw it. "You paint this?" he spoke suddenly. I wasn't too sure if he was asking a question or making a statement, so I decide to answer him.
"No, Henrique did," I said sarcastically. Persons like him like to underestimate people like me. He probably thinks I'm a good for nothing who left her kid.
He rolled his eyes then clear his throat. "Well, I'm taking Henrique now."
I frown at him. "What do you mean take him?"
"I mean exactly what I just said." He looked own in my grey eyes as I looked him in his light brown ones.
"Where are you taking him?" I questioned. This was new for me. Every since I've been here Alexander didn't make a lot of contact with Henrique. Why did he want him now?
"You don't have the authority to ask me that." I roll my eyes at his response.
"I do have the authority to question you, I could be his mother."
"But you aren't, are you? Or wait maybe you are. I can't tell. I wish I could see through your heart and tell if you're a big fat liar, but I can't and that's why we're going to do the DNA test tomorrow." I shake my head at his harsh words.
"You know what! Go ahead take him after all, you can be lying too. You're acting as if Henrique is your father's child when he could be yours. He looked exactly like you, he doesn't have grey eyes like me or my sister. Maybe you just don't wanna accept that your mistress left. So, you find her identical twin and pin the baby on her."
He shakes his head. "You're crazy. I probably need to set an appointment for the Psychiatrist for you because you are definitely insane. You probably forgot that Henrique is your child."
"I'm not crazy and I'm not insane. Henrique isn't my child, I've never gotten pregnant before. You have to have sex to get pregnant and I haven't had sex so he's not mine." I shouted back at him.
Henrique started to cry, I look beside me at the child. Looking back at his brother I said. "Look what you did! We were happy before you came and ruin everything."
He rolled his head and bent to pick up the crying child. When Henrique was securely in his arms he started to walk in the direction of the house. He tried soothing the baby as he does so.
As soon as he was out of sight, the tears decide to show themselves. I don't know what the hell was going on with my life. How the hell did I get here? I was happy three years ago. Why did everything change? Why couldn't I be as happy as I was three years ago?
All because of Alliyah. Someone she just always makes the situation worse than it.
Wiping my tears away with my left hand, I started thinking on his words. I'm not crazy and I was not insane. I was sick emotionally but not mentally.
.........................................
Alexander didn't come back with Henrique until around 9 pm. I was reading on my bed when I heard heavy his footsteps passed my door. I also heard when he opened Henrique's door. I tried staying quiet until he heard him pass my door again.
Sometimes I thank God that his room was on the other end of the mansion. The less association I had with him, the less likely I'd be able to get hurt by his mean words.
Climbing off my bed, I walked to my door. I opened it slowly to avoid any noise. I didn't want to get caught by him, trying to avoid an awkward situation.
I walked over to the room next door and gently push on the door.
Henrique was laying fast asleep in his crib. I smiled and walked up to the crib.
I rubbed my hand on his back. He looked so peaceful and beautiful. The question that kept bugging me is Why did Alliyah abandon her beautiful baby boy?
I kiss the palm of my right hand and place it down on his head. "Sleep well, my baby."
I close the door gently behind me and went back to my room.
I got up off my sofa when I heard a knocking on my door. There was only one person who came knocking on my door and it was the famous Ms. Wilson. But when the door opened, looking at me was a new visitor. I raised my eyes brows as I looked in his light brown eyes.
"Good to see you're awake." Why wouldn't I be? It's 9 am. "We'll be leaving here in thirty minutes."
"I'm already ready." His gaze shifted to my clothes.
He made a facial expression that I couldn't read then said. "Good, meet me downstairs in thirty minutes. Make sure you make some formula for Henrique so after the test he'll not be hungry."
"Okay."
"You should get something to eat as well."
Like you care if I eat or not. "I've eaten already thanks."
He nods his head then walked away.
The drive back to the house was silent. The procedure was not as hard as I thought it would have been. There was no blood involved. All the doctor did was place a piece of cotton in my mouth and the same for Henrique. The doctor said that the test would only take 3-5 business days to get back. I couldn't wait to prove Alexander Carter how wrong he was about me.
I was looking through the dark car windows when he started to pull over in a Popeyes. I turn to look over at him.
"Lunch," he explains without looking at me.
I was a bit shock at his words, he didn't seem like the person who would eat junk food. He didn't even look like he would even enter a business like this. Just by looking at him, you could tell the man was filthy rich, from the way he dressed to the way he walked and how he did his hair.
He pulled into a parking place close to the entrance. He undid his seatbelt and opened his door, so I did the same. He opened the back door and undid the locks on the baby seat. When he was down he took Henrique out and hold him against his chest.
Henrique let out a loud giggle which caused me to look ahead at them. Alexander was making silly faces which were making the baby crack up. Something in my chest twist.
I might have misjudged Alexander. If didn't he care for the Henrique he wouldn't be playing with him. If he didn't care, I wouldn't have looked so happy with him.
I couldn't help but smile. They looked super-cute together. Henrique could pass for his son since they had the same dashing looks.
Maybe Henrique was his son.
No, he made it clear that he wasn't Henrique's father and I believed him even though he didn't have it in him to believe me.
He pushed the Popeyes door open and signal me to enter when I did he followed after me.
I mumbled a thank you, but he didn't respond. I looked over him, not exactly sure what his plan is.
"What do you wanna eat?" he questioned looking at the menu.
I followed his gaze and looked up at the orange and white menu board. "I'll just have the two-piece, I eat every part of the chicken so I don't really care which one I get. I want fries no soda, water would be good." I looked across at him. "For Henrique, you can buy one of the potato salad, he loves that."
He turned and look at me, "Is that all you want?"
"Yea, I guess."
"If you want something else you can have it."
I scratch my head a little, "Okay, can I get more fries. Popeyes fries are the best."
He nods and walked over to join the line.
I rushed over to him. "Give me, Henry. Are we eating here?"
"Yea." He responded.
"Okay, I'll go find a seat." I pushed out my hands and the baby gladly fall in it. I smile up at him. When he was safely in my arms I start looking around for a seat. I spot a nice clean one close to the window. I quickly walked over it and sat before anyone else could get it.
It is almost 12 pm so the lunch rush is going to start any minute now, thank god we made it in before then.
I looked at the baby in my lap, he was looking at someone across from us. In his hand, he held a drip since he was teething he needed something to comfort him when the pain came on.
Alexander places the packed tray on the table and took a seat facing me. "Give me the baby, I'll hold him."
"Okay." I lifted Henrique high enough, so he could pass over the table, soon enough he was settled in his brother's arms.
"I bought six pieces of chicken and four fries. This is the chicken box, this is the fries box." He points at the boxes respectively. "We share from the boxes. This right here is the mash potatoes."
"This is a lot of food."
"I am a growing man."
You are indeed.
I offered a small smile.
"You can go ahead and start eating, I'm going to feed Henrique while I'm eating so you don't have to wait on me." He was opening the lid of the mashed potatoes.
"Okay." Following his instructions, I opened the fries box first.
I quickly take up one of the wet wipes and use it to clean my hands. Cleaning my hands before food was just something I had to do. It was probably the only thing that my mother insists on us to do.
"Girls, you need to wash your hands before a meal." Her voice rang in my head.
My sweet dear mother who I haven't spoken to in over three years, all because of Kalliyah.
I took up the first fry and placed it in my mouth. I could help but moan at how good it tasted.
I heard a chuckle, so I lifted my head up to look across from me. All of Alexander's attention was on Henrique but he had a smile on his face.
"Don't judge me, these fries are to die for."
I shake his head then lifted it to look at me, "I am not." He used his free hand to take out a fry and put it in his mouth. When he finished chowing, "They really are the best fries."
"Yea, it's because they're different from the rest. I love the seasoning that they used on it."
"Me too." Finally, we agreed on something.
I let out a laugh all of a sudden which earned me a few looks including Alexander's.
"What's wrong?"
Shaking my head, I smile. "I don't think I should tell you this" I mustn't tell him what I think about him.
"Why not? Go ahead."
"Well," I hesitate then place a piece of chicken in my mouth. "You are not as bad as thought you were, I might have misjudged you."
He raised his brows at me, "Misjudged me? In what ways?"
"Well, for starters you're not as cruel. I've been watching you with Henrique and your so sweet with him, you treat him as if he's your even though he's not. Then you come to Popeyes. like I haven't come across many millionaires in my life, but I don't think they come to Popeyes." All the movies I've watched showed that they went to fancy places for lunch, breakfast and dinner. Some of them didn't even know what a Mc. Donald burger looks like.
"Just to clarify, I'm not a millionaire. I'm a billionaire and I'm not saying this in a way to flaunt. I do like to go to fast food restaurants. I don't make it an everyday thing like some persons, but I do. You're right not a lot of wealthy people come to places like this when we can go to fancier place."
"See, you also don't seem like the fast-food type." His muscles were proof of this.
"I'm not, to be honest. Ms. Wilson takes good care of me but when I'm away I do lose control, especially there is a Tim Horton's' close to where I'm at."
I could help but laugh. "I love Tim Hortons. They have the best French Vanilla and their smoothie...so god."
He chuckles, "I'm more of a coffee person."
"Yea, I know" recalling our second meeting. It was that second day that he had made me lost my job by accusing of an ungodly act that I didn't even do. That day he was cruel and mean to me.
Why is he so nice now?
Was it because I've been getting to know him since the few weeks I've been at his house?
Maybe It's an act or maybe he's just a really nice guy who made a bad first impression.
I have no idea but I have time to find out.
