Chapter 14
I rub the Japanese Cherry Blossom lotion on my legs then close the lid. I turn and look at the mirror to my left, my eyes, red. I spent over an hour in the shower crying and now I just feel burn out. Sighing I push away the lotion and lay on the bed. I look at the grey ceiling. Not really thinking about anything specific, just random memories of my time here.
How did I end up liking him?
First, he smiled at you.
Then creeps up on you.
You saw him half naked.
You ate ice-cream with him; your favourite dessert.
I sigh and close my eyes, all that crying made me exhausted. Reaching for the blanket I pulled it over my body without opening my eyes.
A few seconds before I drifted off the sleep, my door pushed opened which cause me to jump up. I held my blanket up to my chest in fear when I opened my eyes to see the intruder. When my eyes finally registered the face, I yawn and pushed myself to the edge of the bed and looked up at him annoyed.
What did he want now?
He already ruined my day.
All I want now is to sleep in peace.
"I don't need to hear all the criticism from you or your friends. Henrique is not my child, you saw the test." Pausing I shake my head, "You know what I don't understand? You went and tell the whole world that I abandon my child, that I'm a gold-digger and that I'm cruel. You went an tell the whole god damn world and now everyone thinks I'm Alliyah." I stand up from the bed and walked in front of him. Why did you do that? Do you want to brag about saving an abandoned baby? Why are you even in my room? So, you can brag about how poor I am and what a gold-digger I am. Well, you..." before I finished my sentence Alexander pulled me toward him then his lips were instantly on mine.
His lips were so soft that I just opened my mouth and accepted his kiss willingly, closing my eyes in the process. Moving one of his hands from my waist he slowly trailed it up to my waist. He pulled his lips away suddenly, but his arms remained in its place. I opened my grey eyes and look into his brown ones.
Realization hit me causing me to push on his chest and pull away from him. "Why did you do that?" I turn my head from him; my voice said angry, but my face was flush. "I don't want your pity."
Not because I was crying meant I wanted someone to kiss the pain away. "I don't want anything from you. Just find my sister so I can back to my life." Even if I didn't want you to.
"Will you just stop and let me explain everything to you.?" He didn't wait for my answer to continue, "I didn't kiss you because I pity you. Yes, I told my friends about the baby and they told their wife but other than those friends, no one else."
I shake my head and look at him, "Not true, you told Mr. Wilson."
"Ms. Wilson is my housekeeper, of course, I told her." Normally if a boss doesn't have to tell the help anything. What's so different?
"How dare you even kiss me after even calling me Ms. Bisson?"
He raised his brows, "That's your name."
I hiss my teeth at him, "We were on a first name basis and then you switch up. I know I'm despicable, but I didn't know it was that bad." He shakes his head, so I continue, "Then she starts accusing me of being a god-digger. The only money I'd ever want from you is to buy Henrique something and it's not like I'm allowed to leave the property anyways."
He ran his hand over his face, "Okay, Okay. I get it. I'm sorry for everything and wish I could change the past but I can't."
I shrug, "Why did you kiss me? Is it to make up for how you treated me down there? Because I don't want your pity kiss."
"It wasn't a pity kiss, you were talking, and I needed you to shut up, so it seems like a good idea." He says shrugging.
I rolled my eyes, "So you go around kissing all the girls who talk a lot just to shut them up?" I asked rhetorically.
"Not all the girls, just you."
After rolling my eyes I ask, "Where's Henrique?"
He walked over to the open door, "He's sleeping, and you should be too. Tomorrow we're going shopping."
I frown up at him, "Why?
"The annual fundraiser here. I told you this already." I raised my brow trying to think about the conversation he was talking about.
I shake my heads, "No, you didn't tell me anything like that."
He shrugs, "Well every year I have an annual fundraiser here and that's tomorrow. So, the decorators and the caterers will come from in the morning. The place is gonna be hectic and you're gonna need a dress."
I took me a few seconds to register what he's saying. "You're inviting me?"
He nods, "Yes." He paused and scratched his head, "We'll be leaving here at 8 am. Be ready." I turn to walk out, "Goodnight." He shut the door behind up before I could answer.
I took a seat on the bed and look up at the ceiling. I slowly brought my hands up to my lips. Did he really kiss me to shut me up? Or was that just his excuse?
.......
I walked over to where Alexander was waiting for me. I made an effort to smile but it didn't reach my eyes. "I didn't find anything. I'm too fat for this place."
He arched his eyebrow, "Fat?"
I nod, "Yup. That's what Debbie over there says. They only sell sizes zero to three and I'm a six. So, we can leave this place."
"No problem." I place his hand on the stroller and start pushing it toward to store entrance. I walked as close to him as possible, but his long legs were fast compared to my short ones.
We exit the store and talk walking down the street to a different store. I couldn't help but stay a few feet behind Alexander and the stroller. It was a great view. He was wearing casual clothes, jeans and a plaid shirt. The way he walked showed off his strength and masculinity. He was hella sexy especially when he when pushing the stroller with a sleeping baby. A few women passed us and flashed him a sunshine smile, there is nothing sexier than a man having a baby and taking care of him, even if it means just pushing a stroller.
He opened the door of a store and waited for me to go in then followed me. He left me and went to the corner of the store to take a seat. From the beginning he told me he wasn't the shopping type, so he wasn't going to be on my tail.
"If you see something you like, take it up, try it on, if it fits, I'll buy it." Those were his exact words. I still haven't found a dress that knocked me off my feet as yet but I needed to hurry before he starts getting irate or before Henrique wakes up with his screams. I rather not have the whole store staring at me as I try and control his screams.
I walked around the store looking at some really beautiful dresses, but when I touched the fabric it wasn't to my liking.
From the corner of my eye, I spot a sparkling red dress. Immediately I knew it was perfect. I called one of the workers with a grin on my face. "Please tell me you have it in size 6."
She laughs, "Today is your lucky day because this one on the rack is a size six and it's the last one we have in stock."
"What! Really?" That's amazing. Can I try it on?"
"Of course, follow me."
I rub my hands against the red dress, I look stunning. Tonight, I won't be poor Kalliyah Bisson with the broken heart. Tonight, I'm Kalliyah Bisson, just Kalliyah.
I quickly take off the dress and put on my bag my jeans pants and Aeropostale Purple shirt. When I came out of the changing room the worker who was helping me had a big smile on her face, "How did it look?"
"I looked like a princess."
"And that you are. Come on, let's get it packed up for you."
After Alexander paid for the dress we spend the rest of the day buying shoes, pieces of jewellery and toys for Henrique. We haven't even spoken much either.
Neither of us wants to talk especially after that kiss.
.......
I look in the mirror at myself. I've never looked as beautiful as I do now in this red dress and silver heel. After watching a few YouTube videos, I was able to do my makeup. Around my neck is an expensive silver necklace that had before I moved to New York and matching teardrop earrings.
I smile at my reflection, this was the first time in three years that I actually feel like me. There weren't any bags under my eyes. My hair is done neatly, deep curls hanging on my shoulder. The only thing that was missing was my bright red hair.
Alexander hired a temporary nanny for the night. At first, I disagreed but after a few minutes of arguing I knew I wasn't going to win. When I checked him early he was sleeping peacefully in his crib, the nanny only a few feet away from him. She looked trustworthy, she didn't look like the type of person who would hurt a baby not like they ever do anyway. I'll just make sure to check up on him.
I checked my phone on the dresser, it was 7:30 pm and the function started at 7'o clock. He said no one ever comes on time.
I looked at myself one time before I turned and exited my room. Walking down my side of the stairs I noticed the persons lingering at the bottom. There was also a partition which I guess was used to stop persons from coming up the stairs.
As I walked down the stairs the eyes for the socialites started to look in my direction. I knew red was a bright colour, but I didn't know it would catch so much attention. When I was at the end of the stairs I move the partition out of my way.
I offered a light smile to an older woman who was a few feet away. I had no idea what to do so I started to walk around admiring The Armani Suits and the Vera Wang dresses.
A waiter came over to me saying, "Margarita, madam." I nod my head smiling at him.
"Thanks," I said as I lifted the glass off the tray.
"Have a good night, Madam."
"I'd say you too, but I'd be lying. I know that after this event. You'll be left drained." I said trying to build a conversation, after all, it's not like I knew any of guess anyways.
"Don't tell anyone. I'm planning to steal some of that coffee in the kitchen, cause I'm gonna need it."
I lift my hands to my lips, "My lips are sealed."
We laughed at my statement and bowed his head then left.
I looked around the room trying to see if Alexander was here. I couldn't stand the thought of walking around any longer in these heels. I stopped at a corner and took a sip of the Margarita. This is what happens when an introvert puts herself out there. She gets stares, but no one is willing to talk to her.
Always little miss...
Before my thoughts went wild I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turn to see ocean blue eyes staring at me.
I raised my eyebrows at the man in front of me.
"I was over there," he pointed, and my eyes followed. "And my friends and I just couldn't take our eyes off you. You're the lady in red and I'd like to have a dance with you."
I laugh at his corny pick-up line. "Does that usually work with girls?"
He smiles showing his pearly ones, "One the ones in red." I pushed his hands out to me. "I'm Calum and you?"
"Kalliyah."
"Is that like an Australian name?"
I laugh and shake my head, "No idea."
"You're supposed to say Yes." I raised my brows at him.
"Why?" I had no idea where my parents got that name from and its meaning really didn't matter to me either.
"Well, I would have said, "Great cause I'd cross the seas to be with you."
I couldn't help but laugh at his stupidity. Did he think these cheesy pickup lines would actually work?
"Exactly how old are you?"
"Twenty-Seven, you?"
Choosing to ignore his question I frown. He was a twenty-seven-year-old man who behaved like a child.
Great, now only immature dudes like me.
"You didn't answer my question, how old are you?"
I shrug, "My age is irrelevant."
"And mine wasn't?" Calum questioned.
"No. It was very relevant."
He pouts, "That's not fair."
"Life not's fair. Get over it." As the words came through my mouth I thought about it. I was always complaining about my life and the things that happened to me. Maybe I should take my own advice and get over it.
"Playing hard to get, I see." He stated.
"That's the thing. I'm not playing hard to get. I am hard to get."
Fact.
He shrugs, "Oh well. I guess I need to try harder." I remain silent, so he continued, "I'm really rich."
I sigh. Just when I start to like him he mentions money.
What's the problem with this world and money?
Why do all rich men have to assume that all girls want them because they have money?
Assume that we are all gold-diggers.
"Everyone here is rich." Except me, of course.
"I own restaurants all around America, you might have even been to one of them." I stared into his blue eyes with a frown. He had dirty blond hair and was middle built. His muscles seem well groomed. It was obvious he has some serious abs under that tuxedo. But that didn't matter because he was a dick who had lame pick up jokes.
"Look, I DON'T CARE. You could be the owner of Starbucks. I DON'T CARE. You are rich. I DON'T CARE. I don't want your money." I placed a lot of emphasis on the ' I DON'T CARE' because men like him just don't get it.
"Oh, so you a feisty one." He said smirking. "I bet you're wild in bed. I like that too. I really don't mind."
I knew all the smile that I was saving up was now gone.
What is stopping me from slapping him across his face?
1. This is for Charity
2. Not my home
3. Can't afraid bail money.
"Is everything okay, here."
I sigh thanking God for sending Alexander because I don't think I would have been able to control myself if he said the next word.
I turned and smiled at him. "Not so great. Calum here is ruining my night."
Alexander turns to Calum with a deep frown on his face. "Listen, Reid, she's off limits to you and your little crew and I don't want to see you or your friends near her," Alexander said in a serious tone. It was obvious he hated the guy, but why invite someone you dislike?
"Oh, so she's your date? You got yourself a feisty one. Perfect match for each other."
Before I could deny the claim, Alexander cut in, "Yes, she's with me, in fact, she lives here."
I knew he was trying to tell them I lived here but why did I sound like he was saying I'm his woman?
"Wow, the loser has found someone. Just Pray that she isn't a gold-digger like all the other women you've had."
"If I were you, Reid, I'd go back to my friends," Alexander said still sounding angry.
Calum smirked knowing that he won the conversation. "Keep this one. She has a sense of humour." Calum turns away with a smile on his face.
I looked up at Alexander to see his eyes still trailing Calum. If they didn't get along, why invite him to your Charity event?
I had so much more to learn about the life of a socialite and even more about the life of Alexander Carter.
